THE BERLIN WALL

Berlin wall- after the war Germany was separated into 4 military occupation zones controlled by America, France, the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union after the Potsdam agreement in July to August 1945. The construction of the wall began on august 1961 on a Sunday morning. It took roughly 3 decades until the wall was completely torn down. The wall was only originally a barbed wire fence and then progressed into a concrete wall. The all was about 90 miles long, when they closed the wall on the night of august 12th they did this in the night so none of the germen and Berlin people knew what was happening until they woke up that next morning. Around 150 to 100 people died trying to cross the wall. Since 1949 almost 2.5 million people had fled to East Germany.
