A GRAND PLANAs Bendigo’s wealth grew, so too did the visions for this new city. Founders set out to recreate London, giving Bendigo a distinctive European feel to this day. The arrival of fi ne public buildings transformed the landscape during the 1880s and 1890s.

CHINESE INFLUX SHAPES HISTORYMany thousands of Chinese arrived in the mid-1800s to strike it rich, and within ten years they made up 20% of the Bendigo population. While many returned home when the rush ended, some remained to form the Bendigo Chinese community which continues to shape the city.


DIGGING DEEP FOR GOLDGold undoubtedly put Bendigo on the map more than 150 years ago. Within a decade of the fi rst discovery in 1851, many deep shafts were constructed to tap the rich gold-bearing quartz reefs deep beneath the surface. Located in the arts precinct of central Bendigo, the VAC o� ers an unrivalled venue space: an architecturally designed, light � lled building boasting polished black marble flooring, a 90 seat tiered auditorium, a meeting room, two public gallery spaces and two open-air courtyards.

Hire of the auditorium includes use of all facilities: the ceiling-mounted data projector and large projection screen, laptop computer, DVD player, sound system, lapel and hand held microphones and internet. Experienced and friendly sta� are available to assist with the smooth running of your event.

The elegant reception area adjacent to the auditorium provides space for pre- or post-event catering. An excellent choice of caterers are available and can tailor their menus to suit your requirements.

Also available is a meeting room which seats 12 in boardroom style and has direct access through large glass doors to a small private courtyard. Facilities include a large LCD flat screen/DVD player, whiteboard and internet connectivity.

With a history of successfully hosting of a variety of events, the VAC is an inspiring venue suitable for public seminars, product launches, sta� training and corporate cocktail events or small meetings.

V/Line

V/Line trains connect Bendigo with Melbourne and regional centres such as Echuca and Swan Hill. Trains between Melbourne and Bendigo run frequently with about one service per hour in each direction. The trip takes around two hours, giving you time to sit back and relax or catch up on work in our air-conditioned carriages. Most services are operated by our fleet of VLocity trains, providing a smooth and comfortable ride.
