STATED MEETING
Ben Hur Shrine meets on the 3rd Thursday of the
month. The next stated meeting will be Oct 17,
2019. YOUR 2019 DUES CARD IS REQUIRED!
Oct 2019 3
POTENTATE’S MESSAGE - [email protected]
RECORDER - [email protected]
You have probably received the email from Imperial with your 2020
dues notice. You can pay your dues by sending a check to the office,
use the pay option on the website, or call the Secretary Lisa and
give her your credit card number. You dues must be paid NLT
December 31, 2019 for you to remain current. If you have already
paid your dues and have not received your 2020 sticker for your
dues card, please call the Recorder. I have a supply in my office and can mail one out
to you, or you can just drop by and pick one up.
If you are behind on your dues, remember Ben Hur will keep you on the books for 2
years. Give me a call at 512-480-0812 and lets talk about it. There are many options
available to help you get back in good standing. We don't want to loose you.
Nobles and Ladies of Ben Hur,
It is October and we are in the downhill slide of 2019. The Circus
was a great event and we had a modest turnout. The time for Fall
events is here.
October 12th is Director’s Staff Chili cook-off and be careful with the
Halloween goers. Kiddos walking to get a trick or a treat. We have
our Chief Rabban’s Vampire Ball and I hope everyone has a frightful
time.
Remember we need to have all officers elected for next year done by October 31st per
General Order Number 1.
Make sure you mark your calendar for December 14th for the Temple Christmas Party
and Toy Dance. This has always been a tradition lately to support Solomon Lodge in
their Masonic Santa to give toys to needy and deserving kids.
Our Imperial Potentates “Just One” campaign is what we have been talking about for
years. If each Noble brings in one new member, we can double our membership.
Have a great October and “See you in the Funny Paper”.
Jeff Clark-Potentate

Chief Rabban - [email protected]
Ladies and Nobles,
The 2019 Ben Hur Shrine Circus is behind us. I want to thank all
the volunteers who helped make this year’s circus a success! We
had a lot of volunteers and the food was excellent. It was very
nice to see everyone working together.
This year we had approximately 12,300 people attending the
circus. For me, the most memorable moment was when I gave
away my last circus pin. It was after the last show when I decided to walk around the
HEB Center one last time to make sure things were in order. I saw a little girl about
three years old wearing one of our junior fezzes so I asked her “Do you have a fez
too?” She then started to tell me all about the circus. She was very animated and
described in detail every act she saw. Her grandparents were with her, and they had
probably heard all of it before, but they patiently waited for her to finish talking. I
reached into my pocket and took out the circus pin. When I told her that it was my last
circus pin and she could have it, her face lit up with joy. She grabbed it in her little
hand, and the pin was almost as big as her palm. She looked at it for a few seconds,
then, in a very serious voice told me “This is awesome! I’m going to keep this and put
it on something great!” I’m sure she’ll be back next year.
The carnival at the Round Rock Premium Outlets has been postponed. We are still
working on the details of that fundraiser. Meanwhile, we will have a carnival at the Dell
Diamond starting on October 24th through November 3rd. Please help your Shrine make
this a successful fundraiser by stopping by and telling your friends about the carnival.
The Vampire Ball is sold out, and the waiting list is growing. We are doing our best to
accommodate everyone. A simple way to help your Shrine with this fundraiser is to
donate items for the silent and live auctions. Please contact me at 512-554-6356 and/
or [email protected] for details.
Fraternally,
Romeo Denghel

ORIENTAL GUIDE - [email protected]
Howdy Nobles and Ladies
The circus was mucho fun and it was a pleasure working with our group. Everyone just jumped in and did what was
needed. Thanks guys and gals, it was fun, fun, fun. While walking around the circus floor during intermission a young
lady came up, hugged me
and said she is a Shriner Kid. Tonie was treated at the
Shreveport Children’s Hospital from 16 months to
about 8 years old. She wore leg braces and had several
surgeries. She was there with her family and thanked me. She was proud of what happened and allowed me
to share it with you and told her kids that I was part of what helped her. Tonie will always support
Shriners. Pam and I have had the pleasure of meeting many Shriner kids and parents this year and listened
to their story. Makes everything worth it. Thanks to everyone for for making Tonie's story happen. Ben
Hur Shrine Proud .
Chuck "Fester" Jones
James and Janet Heineman, James and Joan McConnell, Pam and I visited the
Highland Lakes Shrine Club September Meeting. Hung out with some good folks and had a great time. Visit if you get a chance. Rich said they have some upcoming events
and could always use the help.

CHANGES TO GENERAL ORDER NO. 1 AFFECT CLUB/UNIT ELECTIONS/REPORTING
The 2019-20 General Order No. 1 has been posted online at Shriners Village. There is a
new article that now covers Unit and Shrine Club Leader Information. (a) Election of
Officers: The election of Club/Unit officers shall be held on or before October 31st each
year. (b) Duty of Club/Unit Secretary: On or before November 30th of each year,
provide to the Temple Recorder or update within WebFez, the presently elected Club/
Unit officers for the ensuing Shrine Year including verified name, address, telephone
number(s), email addresses and other relevant information. (c) Duty of Temple
Recorder. Ensure that all Clubs/Units of the Temple have been created within the
WebFez and populated with the current officers and members. There is more
information in the General Order 1 pertaining to this subject to include more specific
duties and requirements.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS
I have been asked frequently about Endowed Membership in Ben Hur. Here is an
explanation of the current financial requirements. Dues for the Shrine are broken down
to 3 categories. Temple Dues, Per Capita, and Hospital Assessment. A Noble can be
exempt from payment of one or all three categories. Life Per Capita Member cost is 30
times the Per Capita Tax, or $900. Permanent Contributing Member cost is $150. Life
Membership at Ben Hur depends on your age. Under age 65 the cost is $1500 and over
age 65 is $750. Bottom line, if you don’t want to pay any dues at all for the rest of your
life the total cost would be: Under age 64 - $2550. Over age 65 - $1800. If you are still
confused, just call the Recorder.
LOS “CLUE” Fund Raiser
was a big hit, with a Bat in
the Courtyard
For the first time since recorded history
the board game CLUE came to life at
Ben Hur. The LOS Fundraiser had a full
house for the popular board game with
each table a player and the Butler
“Mike” narrating the play. It was a long
game, but as you can see, at least 4 of
the members of Team Divan prevailed
and solved the mystery. (Sam and
Jeannette Stimson, Fester and Pam
Jones, James and Janet Heineman).
Watch this publication for the next op-
portunity to play the game, you won’t
regret it.

The Breaking Benjamin show at the Austin 360 Amphitheater has
come and gone. I would like to thank everyone who helped sell
CD’s at the show. SHC is also very grateful. I have included a few
pictures so you can see the fun we had out there.

On September 16, 2019 Live Oak Lodge 304 in Kyle, Tx presented Ben Hur Noble PM
Steve Cook with the Golden Trowel Award. Live Oak WM Noble Ricky Hayes presented it to Steve while his mother Dorthy, wife Lynn, and son Noble Kyle looked on. The
greatest award Mason can give another Mason is the Golden Trowel. There were a large number of Ben Hur Nobles present. A great Mason brother. Steve Cook is a fairly
new member to Ben Hur, and he can be seen at most events pitching in and working hard. Congratulations Noble Steve.
