This year, the Lord willing, we will be finishing language study. What a day that will bel Inthe meantime we are learning so much, we are now in a Sook called Twenty Lectures on ChineseCulture . This booK has really been helpful in understanding the Chinese mind. The other dayour lesson was on Chinese l i te ra ture and although i t pointed out the most in-t^national language, getting you along almost anywhere, i t pointed out lsothat Ghinese r~al-though only a national_lanKU.ag.ft. is aunken by the greatest number of people in thr worlit, Twas thinking that even thoughw are taking two years to get fSe lanf^^ tlia t afterward w wilknow the two best languages in the world - ijiglish to get us around best and Chinese to reachthe g r e a t e s t number o f people f or C hr is t,

The class we are having on Thursday evenings i s going Ireal well. I t is the one event which really gets me all stirred fo r Christ af ter a v/eek of school, I have beenteaching a te n lesson series on the Life of Christ which II will finish this week. I hope that several of them ^

    On Thursday morning, February 12 , before we ha d l e f t fo r school, I received word t h a t myb r o t h e r, Gsiry Bemo, ha d taken h i s own l i f e I c a l l e d my fo lks a s soon a s I could an d madearrangements to f ly to the Sta tes the next day* The impact of w hat had h ap pened d id n t r ea ll yh i t me t i l l I got there* I was there fo r two weeks with my Mother and Father* I t i s r ea l lyhard to imders tand why t h i s h ap pe ne d a nd we have had to l e a m to depend upon the Lord more*Your prayers fo r my Horn an d Dad, Gary s wife , Carolyn, an d myself are needed*

I want to thank everyone who ha s done something for u s durin g t h i s time* I am especial lyamazed a t the way the money wa s provided fo r the t r i p to an d f rom America* I became convincet ha t was the Lord s w il l tha t I go back to the Sta tes fo r a couple of weeks to be withmy folks . I prayed, I f t h i s i s indeed your wi l l , God, I should not have to say a word aboutrying to ra ise t h i s money* IWien I wrote a check for th e t icket in Taipei I did not beginhave th e money for i t* I decided I would not mention th e need to anyone accept God Howevewhen I go t to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where my folks l ive , I found tha t th e money had already becommitted by Churches and individuals in tha t area* They were only waiting for me to arriveand le t them know how much th e tickes had cost* I have marked these special gi f t s on th ef i n an ci a l r e p or t a s s p e c i a l .

I took Becky with me to the States because I could take he r for only IO 6 fare and because oand Dad had never seen her. Although I missed Janet and Beth, who stayed in Taiwan, Becky kme from g e t t i n g to o homesick*

    While In Oklahoma I got to speak in some of the supportingC h u r c h e s t h e r e

On our way back to Taiwan we stopped over in Los Angeles where Xwa s me t a t the a i r p o r t by Chuck a nd M olly Johnston, who werea l so leaving fo r Taiwan the next day by ^ i p They boarded the Vsame ship Janet and I had ridden, at the same dock where we had j|boarded when we came to Taiwan for the f i r s t time nearly four ^years ago* This brought back some pleasan t memories.

    That night we stayed with th e Howard Dobbs family in Aneheim,California The next day I got to meet for a few minutes i r Jsome me n o f t h e F a s t Aneheim and K n o t t Avenue C h r i s t i a nChurches* Afterward Becky and I got on a plane bound forTaiwan. Sh e wa s a p e r f e c t t r a v e l e r .

    We arr ived back in Taiwan j u s t as Sunday Services were beingheld but Jane t and Beth were a t the ai rpor t for a gloriousr e u n i o n

^On March 8th I preached my f i r s t sermon,,iii-Ch,inftRp at.-Church. rI was fi l led with feelings of both accomplishment and humility, ^ ^if you can imagine. I th ^ the moat aerioua mistake I made chuok olly Johnstonwas that I said, We may have to sacrifice the commandments of Our latest missionariesGod. when I m e a n t t o say, We may have to s a c r i f i c e our l i v e sfor G^. That is serious enough but Flder Suen later translated my Chinese into their Chinm this particular point since I had gone over the sermon with him earlier*
