Pope Francis Like the prophet Jonah, we are constantly tempted to flee to a safe haven. It can have many names: individualism, spiritualism, living in a little world, addiction, intransigence, the rejection of new ideas and approaches, dogmatism, nostalgia, pessimism, hiding behind rules and regulations. We can resist leaving behind a familiar and easy way of doing things. Yet the challenges involved can be like the storm, the whale, the worm that dried the gourd plant, or the wind and sun that burned Jonah’s head. For us, as for him, they can serve to bring us back to the God of tenderness, who invites us to set out ever anew on our journey. The Catholic Women's Cluster theatre bus trip to the Fireside on November 5th has been cancelled by the Cluster Committee. We feel that there is too much uncertainty regarding safety issues due to COVID-19.

We have resumed Celebrating the Mass in Spanish on Sundays at 11:00 AM at St. Jude. Our next hosting week for Fam-ily Promise is August 23-30, 2020. Our families are continuing being housed in a hotel due to the pandemic, so

we need volunteers. We need people to provide nightly din-ner, and people to help purchase groceries and items for breakfasts and lunches. Another way to help is financially for needs that arise during our week, or to purchase activities or trinkets for the kids. Assumption of Mary – On August 15 we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. This feast celebrates that Mary is fully present in heaven – body, soul and spirit. God has made each person for this destiny, and we are all called to share the risen life that Mary now enjoys. Masses to cele-brate this Feast are listed with the other Masses (as with Sun-day Mass, there is no obligation to attend Mass on Aug. 15).
