be a Prayer warrior-Join a Prayer teamPrayer is an essential part of BVC’s life; and currently there are several prayer “teams” you can be a part of. Please consider joining one of the teams and interceding for your BVC family members. To join any or all of the listed teams, use the email address of that team to request updated emails. If you do not have email, but would like to pray for the mission teams, call the front office and Sue will
get you on an “update notification” phone list. Additional teams will be created as mission trips continue to be commissioned to serve God and BVC locally, nationally, and internationally.

A Note of Condolence:Please be in prayer for the Merchun family as they grieve the loss of John’s father, Dr. Frank A. Merchun. Dr. Merchun passed away on May 8 at the age of 86. The Merchun family is scheduled to be part of the June Family Mission Trip to Mexico, so pray they process the loss as they complete details for the trip.
Congratulations to Justin and Audra Kauffman on the birth of their son James. When you see Justin, Audra, or Daniel (1-1/2 years old), and ask them if they are getting any sleep. Daniel has been sick, and mom and baby have been out of the house to prevent James from catching the virus. Pray for health for the whole family! The Kauffman’s could benefit from help with meals as they adapt to a family of four. If you would be available to bless the Kauffman family with a meal during this time of transition, please contact the front office to get that set up.
Congratulations to Leah Stegman and Caleb Compston on their recent engagement! A September 3, 2011 wedding is planned.

Meals MinistryBVC has a Meals Ministry which prepares dinners for BVC families who are experiencing transition of one
type or another. The Ministry is looking for volunteers to be part of a team of people willing to serve others by bringing a meal when needed. If you would be willing to serve in this way,
please call Beth Kuzma at 485-7255 or email Sue in the front office. This ministry is a huge blessing to those who receive it!
Coffee MinistryAre you looking for a way you can serve others at Bella Vista Church? We have an opening for a “once a month” volunteer to make coffee for the morning services. The ministry is headed by Carolee Stephens, and is a “before service” and “between services” ministry, allowing you to serve the church family while still attending either the 9:00 or 10:45 service. If you are an early riser, and appreciate the praise of many grateful coffee addicts, this is a ministry area for you! Please contact Sue in the front office to get more information or to sign up.
If you have experienced the joy of being served in a time of need, or if you are blessed with the spiritual gifts of serving and/ or hospitality or helps, BVC would appreciate your participation in either (or all) of the following ministry areas:
Funeral lunchesWould you be willing to bring in sandwiches, chips, relish trays, fruits and/or desserts to serve at funeral lunches for BVC families? This is such an important ministry area for families who are struggling with loss. Lunches are provided free of charge to the family and demonstrate to all the love and giving spirit of BVC. Please consider being part of this vital caring ministry. Contact Sue in the front office to sign up!
A worship team from BVC, led by our own Max Colley Jr., will be providing the music for a praise service to be held at Third Reformed Church on May 22 at 6 pm. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Third Reformed Church, shown below, is located at 2060 Michigan Ave NE, Grand Rapids.
Self-defense For women, June 7No matter what your age or physical condition, you need to know some easy, basic self defense techniques. This class will teach you that, even if you can only attend one or two sessions! It is light exercise and fun too! The class starts June 7 6:30-8:30; and runs each Tuesday night in June. It is taught by BVC member Loni Brower. To register, you may contact Loni at 866-4796, or Sue in the front office.

the God SqUAdYou may not know it, but BVC has a men’s softball team. Its team members are made up of guys from age 17 through age ... you don’t wanna know. Games are scheduled for each Tuesday night, and fun is had by both team members and the fans who are there to cheer them on. The team currently stands with a record of 1 win/3 losses. Although that may not seem impressive, their one win was against last year’s championship team. Congrats to the guys, and if you have a Tuesday night free, come out and support the team. Scheduling information can be obtained from the front office.
quarterly fund-balance information is available at the east

night of Memorial Day Weekend, May 28. Not all of us go away for the long weekend, so if you are staying home, join us in the church gym for a great movie that focuses on this month’s virtue of forgiveness: deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay. Go to www.kotrbvc.
blogspot.com to read information about the movie, its rating, and how you can use the movie to do activities with
your family.
KOTR’s once-a-month family service, for “kids of all ages”, heretofore known as “Big Church”, will continue to meet on the first Wednesday of each month throughout the summer. Mexico Mission trip, June 18-25The details for this trip have stuggled to come together, and the trip’s leaders, Michaele and Darin Demarest could use your prayers for wisdom, perseverance and patience as they wait on the Lord to bring the team members together. Please pray for the team’s expenses, which have been slow coming in, for the personal details in the lives of the team members to be completed, and for relationships amongst the team members to unify, and that the team takes off in June knowing God is in control.

The team needs well-drillers (no previous experience needed), and people to participate in VBS-type classes for kids and mothers (no Spanish required). contact [email protected] or Jessie Hughey at [email protected]. In 2005 we planned a 7-step strategy to launch a new missionary training center for Chileans. Over the last six years we have strategically
moved through each step while making cultural adjustments along the way. We are now in the process of working with and training our
Chilean co-workers in order to make a smooth transition toward step 7: nationalization. The past months on Home Assignment have been full of activity, and thanks to modern technology we’ve been able to stay
in close contact with the ministry and the nationals who have faithfully kept the program functioning during our absence. We are completing
our home assignment and will be returning to Chile on May 19, at which time we will evaluate their progress and continue the process of
nationalizing the ministry.
Prayer requests: 1) For our transition; we will be moving (downsizing) immediately following our arrival in Chile; 2) For the editing and burning of the DVD curriculum for Programa AMOR so the ministry can grow and reach from the north to the south of Chile. Cities are requesting missionary training closer to them; 3) For Programa AMOR’s national team and the nationalization of the ministry. For a balanced involvement as the nationals become more responsible.
Praise: 1) That we were able to be in the U.S. for the birth of our first grandchild! 2) Productive Home Assignment, good visits with family, friends,
supporters and churches. God is faithful! 3) That our children are all doing well (Arlene heard from all 3 on Mother’s Day, Andrew called from somewhere
in the S. Pacific!) and 4) that we continue to enjoy good health. dates to remember:
