OPERATIONPRESTARTINGPerform the following steps and services beforestarting your engine for the first time each day.A Check the engine crankcase oil levelB Check tire condition and pre ssureC Check for fuel, oil hydr auli c leaksD Check radia tor gua rd screen clean if necessa rySTARTING THE ENGINEA AUTIONNcver use ether type start aids. The engine cylinder head is equipped with a glow plug, use of ether to assist start ing may result in anexplosion and serious injury.Ensure: ransmission system is in the neutralposition, P.T.O. control lever is in neutral position, hydrualic lift levers are in ne utral position. Placebattery ground switch in the on position. (The switchis turned on by pushing horizontal button and turnedoff by depressing the vertical button.] Set handthrottle in maximum speed position. Fully depressclutch pedal to minimize transmission drag. Thestarting cycle is controlled by a three position keyswitch:Position No 1 key handle horizontal ircuit openPosition No key turne d 45O clockwise, glow plugcircuit activatedPosition No @ key turne d 90 clockwise , glow plugand s tarte r motor circuit activated. If eng ine fails to startafter 15 seconds , wait 3 4 seconds and repeat stepsandWhen the engine fires and picks up speed, return thekey handle to the horizontal position and reducethrottle opening to a pproximately 1300 rpm.Immediately check all instruments for operation. Runengine until wate r temperature reaches 55OC.If your t ractor ha s been standing idle for an extendedperiod, pre-lubricate the engine as follows: fully closethe throttle, depress the clutch pedal and turn starterkey 9 degrees. Allow engine to crank for 5 secondsto fill oil passages an d spla sh lube cylinder walls.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR COLD WEATHER START INGWhen the ambient temperature is OC or below reviseyour s tartin g cycle as follows:1 Disengage the hydraulic pump drive (page)2. Tur n key through 45 and hold for 30 40 secondsuntil dash indicator lights up to a cherry red.3. Turn key and additional 45O to energize the st arte r4. When the engine fires hold key in the startposition un til the motor run s smoothly. Note: Safetylock out syste m will disengage the starti ng motor a ssoon as the engine begins to pick-up speed.STOPPING THE ENGINEAfter idling the engine at 800 rpm for a few minutes, reduce the engine speed on the throttle lever until theengine stops .After stopping-the engine depress the vertical buttonon the ground-switch and remove the key to preventtampering and unauthorized operation. Before dismounting, be sure all equipment is loweredto the ground and the ground sw itch indicator lamp isoff.BREAKING IN THE ENGINEThe engine is ready for normal operation. However, tofacilitate break-in, avoid prolonged periods of engineidling for the first 1 hrs. of service. If the coolant temperature rises to the red zone on thegauge, shift to a lower gear to reduce the load on theengine.TOWING THE TRACTORCaution: Never tow the tractor at high spee ds. Towthe tractor with the engine running to maintain poweroperation of the steering. When towing the tractor, thetransmission oil level should be at the full mar k. Besure the differential lock is disengaged.

BallastThe safe ty and performance of your tr acto r will beimproved if the correct amount of front or rear ballastis used to obtain the proper amount o rear wheelslippage. Front ballast will help maintain stabilityand steering control when front weight is transferredto the rear wheels. The amount of rear ballast shouldpermit operation with approx . 8 12 percent slip ofthe rear wheels.f too much ballast is used the tread marks will be

clear and distinct. Over ballasting results in lesspower available to pull the implement because morepower is required to overcome tractor rollingresistance. With too little rear ballast the tread marks will beobliterated by excessive slippage which also results inhorsepower loss and excessive fire wear.Consult your Belarus dealer for advice and assistanceregarding use of liquid ballast.Note: Tires mu st not be filled with more than a 75liquid to 25 air ratio. To prevent tire slippage on therim the correct inflation pressu re mus t be maintained.
