I. Introduction

This song is sung by Rihanna. Umbrella is one debut single from debut album

“Good Girl Gone Bad”. This album launched on may 2007. At that time Rihanna got

many awards from this song “Umbrella”. She won some awards because of this song.

This song was very outstanding in the middle of 2007. The song is written by The-

Dream, Christopher Stewart, Kuk Harrell and Jay-Z. Firstly, Stewart tendered this

song to Britney Spears, however the label of Britney Spears refused that. Finally

Rihanna performed this song with her nice voice, and it brought Rihanna become

famous singer and to be admitted in music industrial. Even Umbrella Company

offered her to do advertising. Umbrella song earned many awards and became

nomination of some award event. Rihanna has won 6 awards and been nominated for

8 award shows such as Video of the Year and Monster Single of the Year from 'MTV

Video Music Awards 2007', Best Rap/Sung Collaboration 'Grammy Awards 2008' .

The singer with full name Robyn Rihanna Fenty also arose in news media like

magazine such as Rolling-Stone, Time, and etc. Some magazines reported her with

the greatest song so often. The song was nominated as best song in the 500 Greatest

songs all the time. It is listed in number 412. And the song had placed number 1 in

many music charts around the world. Tens of musician or bands from variety music

genres remixed umbrella song with many version. In UK charts, this song also was

listed number one. Oddly, the weather in there became worse. Before several days the

song was released in may 14 2007. The weather temperature in London and Athena

was fine and the Celsius up to 20 degree. The same thing was experienced in New

Zealand which even worse in the beginning of winter 2007. Flood and Tornado came

to some cities there. When the song fell down from the charts, the weather was getting

good. However, some people may think that it is just a superstition or something

imagined. It is just because the lyric contains of some words such as storm (badai),

rain (hujan), and cloud (mendung). Those are connected with tragedy above. This

song has full of mystery. The song is not talking about love, sexy song, or romantic.

But it has some occult and prophetic message. Let us analyze the song from poetry

analysis perspective.

II. Analyzing the song

Intro: Jay-Z

In the intro, Jay-Z states “Good Girl Gone Bad”. This is name of the third

album of Rihanna. The name “Good Girl Gone Bad” is a girl used to be a good girl

and transform to be bad. Before Rihanna hasn’t met Jay-Z yet, she was a Good Girl.

But now, after she knows and works for his label. She becomes a Bad Girl. It means

that Jay-Z has influenced her very much. “Take three…Action!” it is like director says

when they direct to make a movie. So, in this lyric means Jay-Z has already taken

action to make Rihanna to be his follower.

This song begins with rap-verse by Jay-Z.

No clouds in my storms

Storm here has connotation meaning. Storm actually means a very bad weather with

strong winds and rain (Oxford Dictionary). However, in here Storm is related to

economy and financial of the world. Clouds are also related to crisis of country

financial. In my opinion, this is because when this song published, at that time the

United States had been undergoing by the crisis. No clouds mean there is no trouble

with Jay-Z financial. There is nothing trouble with Jay-Z financial. It is just American

Crisis not him. It doesn’t influence him at all. If there is no cloud, rain scientifically

won’t occur and of course there will be no storms either. So, it won’t happen anything

to him.

Let it rain, I hydroplane in the bank

When Jay-Z says the phrase “Let it rain” in Rap verse, it means “Let it happen”. The

word “Rain” means the crisis or human problem. The phrase says let the crisis

happen. In my opinion, Because Jay-Z actually doesn’t care with it, his wealthy can

save him from this. Hydroplane means a tool or a kind of transportation. The meaning

is Hydroplane will help him to stay out of problem. I can conclude Hydroplane is a

symbol of his wealthy which can save him alive. Then he is driving his own

hydroplane to survive his life from the crisis. He can go away from trouble in time it’s

really happening, he can go anywhere else with his ride. I may give example, He may

drive to go through the bank which has had a glut of crisis financial, and many people

are also involved in it. He’s still always above the water and surviving his life. That

means he is on board so he is out of problem.

Coming down with the Dow Jones

I’d like to explain who Dow Jones is. He is one of founder who build stock market

index in America. With Dow Jones Industrial Average, Dow Jones and Company

Charles Dow and The editor of the wall street journal have this business. It is one of

old stock market index in America. And it has much stock in more than 30

companies. And what the relationship with the song is Jay-Z, Dow Jones is the meter

of financial crisis, we know that Dow Jones has dominated stocks market in America.

If it is coming down, so the financial crisis is really occurred. The phrase above may

mean the fall of Dow Jones. Even American Financial is falling down, he is still

driving his hydroplane and above it.

When the clouds come we gone, we Roc-a-fella

It means when the crisis has destroyed United States people, “we gone” means they

have gone already. “We” is Jay-Z with many rich people. When it is really happened,

they will disappear of it. And it also means that Jay-Z doesn’t even worry about it.

“We Roc-a-fella” means the group may name like that. Rocafella is also label record

of Jay-Z. It is connected to the John.D.Rockefeller and his family. Rockefeller and

Family is the great supporter of Dajjal Party. He is also one of Illuminati member

which also has another name Freemason and he has several magical powers. Jay-Z

has included in it, he has belonged to this group means he is follower of David

Rockefeller. Rockefeller is a symbol of a man who follow and worship to Dajjal. He

and Rihanna are follower of Freemason.

Dajjal is a man not genie or something like that, but he has magical power that

common people do not have it. He is the offspring of Jewish family. As I know,

Jewish never believe in God (Allah). Someday He may get out and come to the earth

in the end of world or Moeslem might say the Doomsday. He gets out teasing every

religious people and to be slander to influence people in order to belong to him.

Recently, without awareness, may people have been affected by the devil or we can

see persuading from Dajjal. Dajall is a symbol of “Kafir” man who is going to

persuade religious people by hell and heaven. Heaven which is actually offered by

him is hell. And the opposite Hell is heaven, in conclusion, misery and sorrow will

come to people who do not follow him. And great pleasure will lie to his follower.

Briefly, Illuminati is one of organization which desire to conquer world. It has one

believe, that is the mystery of God. This organization which first time believe in Satan,

storm. so the word “weather” means the center of trouble. However, Jay-Z convinced that

he won’t be influenced by what is happening around. He is already up to the trouble. He

believes that he won’t affect of it. He is higher than that, because he flies away from that

problem. It can’t reach him at all. Even though the crisis perplexes all people in United

States, he doesn’t be panic of that. Because he states that he is privilege people or rich

man. “G5” is name of private jet plane that may be able to bring him away from trouble.

“You know me” means everybody should know about Jay-Z. He is a rich man and He is a

Hollywood famous rapper.

it so that is why he has got ready for this the rain (precipitation).Before it is happened, he

has already piled so much “chips” or needs for future. When it comes it means “Rainy

day” or an off day comes, he is not getting alarmed. “Precipitation” is also a symbol of an

impact of the rain but rain may mean the trouble which is able to come to people anytime.

He has anticipated about financial which only to face the crisis so it doesn’t make him

anxious.

Jay-Z is away from trouble, and actually he is possessed by Devil or Let say Dajjal. He

succeeds to reach her heart to be his. If devil is completely entering her body, it means

that devil and Rihanna cannot be separated and far from him. Now, they are one heart.

It means either your name or picture are exactly captured in magazines like Famous star.

And you’re going to be star. The word “Star” means like an idol whose fans admire him

so much. You will always be my idol, nobody else, just you. It is Similar with Rihanna

every time she’s got trouble is to be her idol.

The word “Dark” refer to failure. It means someday you will be collapse of everything

you have now, you may fail to be success, or you aren’t able to get something luxury or

expensive again. It is imaged by the word “shiny cars”. Something valuable, the devil

gives message that don’t ever worry about that.

In my opinion, “The sun shines” means Rihanna become more popular, devil states you

have to share your success to me. Devil stated “we’ll shine together”, if you are fruitful,

me too. I told you that I will be here with you forever. It means Devil will always with

Rihanna whatever she is and wherever she goes. Devil will always be your friend, or

might say a partner of life. It is now her belief.

in my opinion, “Took an oath” is meaning Devil says vow to her. “Stick it out” is phrasal

verb that means to continue something until the end. The devil and Rihanna are together

even until the world ends. No matter what happen, they are together. Forever and Always

be with you. Now, the proof is the crisis is oppressing the financial of the world.

However, she’s still untouchable with that. Because the devil save you and “we’ll still

have each other” means I’ll give my assistance to you when you need me and we take and

give each other, devil said.

In chorus of this song, we can look “You can stand under my umbrella”. It will have a

meaning about sexuality between man and woman. But Umbrella here is such a

protection, so it’s not about love between man and woman commonly. “Umbrella” may

symbolize the symbol of Dajjal that shaped Triangle. Umbrella is a tool that uses to

protect everybody from rain or hot sun. The meaning may change “You can stand under

my protection”. In my opinion, umbrella is utilized to protect us from heat of the sun and

the wetness of rain. It is about being protected by something powerful. The power is be

able to protect, control, and possesses you. And in this song, Rihanna seems like being

possessed by that power. You can get any personal security when you are under my

protection, and you’ll be safe of any trouble surround you, devil said.

In my opinion, it is just repetition words that Rihanna says in the lyric. It’s probably like

magic spell to devil.

gone. Include her popularity, wealthy, and success. The devil said that she is part of

entity. Entity here means something immaterial. Meaning Rihanna is one of them or

might say Devil too. Talking about the word Infinity is meaning immortality. It means

that the devil’s strength doesn’t live or die. It’ll never be able to destroy.

“The war has taken it’s part” means the crisis is a part of human problem. In my opinion,

when somebody takes a risk, so they have to face it. We’re daring to do something, we

must be ready to responsible of that. “The world has dealt it’s card”. When you deal to

take an action, you have to carry it out. The entire of world has chosen the problem so the

world should know the cause of it. Even it has paralyzed the whole world. There’s no

impact if there’s no cause. Because life has a choice.

In my opinion, it means If it is difficult to handle, and you’re in dangerous, we’ll carry

this out together. If you’re hurt, we will recover the pain, if you’re in trouble, we will

solve it together. Because we are one heart, they must finish it together too. We support

asked Rihanna to rely on him always.

This sentence means, the devil doesn’t mind it, do not ever worry about it. Do not be

afraid of the crisis. Devil asked Rihana to calm down to what’s happening. “Come into

me” said Rihanna, means she wants him to do so, to enter her body and own her fully. Of

course he will be glad to do that. She really needs his protection of this problem.

It means, He and She state that it is impossible to them to be inseparable. Nothing can

possible make them apart. The power is very strong to lose. They are very fastened each

other so their relationship is very close.

These sentences mean, Devil says that just goes it ahead and let it happen. Because it

exactly will occur, so it cannot be hindered. “I’ll be here whenever you’ll need me. I

like amazing submission between them. They are going to be faithful each other whether

Devil to her or Rihanna to him.

In my opinion, Baby means the Devil himself. Rainy season is the right time to possess

her. As we know, because Rain symbolizes a problem, so it is time Rihanna need him.

her. And Rihanna seems like ready to be at one with the Devil. She seems like offering

herself to be entered by the devil.

III. The Related Theory: Poetry

In analysis poetry we need to pay attention to some aspects in poetry.

Language

1. Word Choice: in this poem, the language is informal. The words are easy to

understand. It is common word.

2. Meaning

Actually, because the words or vocabularies that used in this poem are very easy to

comprehend, but there some difficult word to interpret. Even in poem, there are a lot

of connotation meanings. But lexically, those are included in dictionary. So, we can

get the denotation meaning first. So, there are two kind of word meaning such as:

a. Denotation: the meaning of word itself or the dictionary meaning

In this poem, there are also Denotation meaning.

Hydroplane: a light boat with an engine and a flat bottom, designed to travel fast

over the surface of water (Oxford Dictionary)

G5: is the name of private jet. It is his own jet.

Entity: something that has a distinct, separate existence, though it need not be a

material existence.-Wikipedia

Infinity: the state of having no end or limit. (Oxford Dictionary)

Those meaning are really defined as meaning of the word not kind of symbol in

this poem.

b. Connotation: the meaning of what it suggests beyond what it expresses. It shows

hidden meaning.

In this poem, there are some Connotation meanings such as:

Cloud, Storm, Rain: are words to illustrate the trouble. They are defined as not the

meaning of the word.

Weather is also the meaning center of trouble. The combination of trouble.

Rain Man is the person who already becomes bad and Ms. Sunshine is the person

who has a good character.

3. Rhythm: a wavelike repetition of motion or sound. We can find iambic rhythm in this

poem. Especially in the chorus and the verse 1. Those are having similar rhythm.

Figurative Language

1. Imagery: means only what it is. it describes the thing itself. It can be looked by picture

or photograph.

2. Metaphor: means something other than what it is or a comparison implied between

two things. A way to describe things in different way of normal use. For example:

some dirty dog stole my wallet in the supermarket. It is not talking about dog at all.

The dirty dog is referred to bad guys. In this poem, there is little word that I can

categorize as a metaphor such as “When the world has dealt it's card”, the world and

card is not really related to, “card” means an option that the world choose. So the

whole citizen in the world must take it action of that. And ”Stacks chips for the rainy

day” in the Jay-Z verse. It’s not talking about snack or food at all, “Stacks Chips” may

mean his preparation to face the Rainy day. So when it’s time, he won’t get confused

about that.

Simile: a comparison expressed between two things. It usually uses the phrase such as

like, as, than, similar to, or resembles. For example in this poem: in the Jay-Z Rap

verse

“We fly higher than weather”. It means they fly away or go away very higher above

the weather or the sky. But it means they fly away from the bad weather or trouble.

3. Symbolism: means what it is and something more too. In this poem, there a lot of

symbols appear.

- Dow Jones is the name of person. He is one of rich man and he has control of

market share index in America. He is symbol of power in America.

- Roc-a-fell a is name of Jay-Z Record Label. And it is referred to David

Rockefeller. He is member of Dajjal Party.

- A magazine is a paper cover. And it symbolizes as a famous. When someone

becomes popular, s/he must be reported in magazine. It is the way to make them

more popular.

- Star is an idol. Fans would like to imitate and seems like her/his idol. In this

poem, Star is symbol of Devil whose fans Rihanna. He is her favorite, so she

wants to follow him.

- Dark is no light, it may be also a symbol of destruction of someone. It refers to

Rihanna.

- Shiny car is a luxurious car. And it is also a symbol of luxury or expensive things.

- War is a situation among people or group who fight each other. It is really

IV. Conclusion

In conclusion, this poem is really not about love or sexy song. It is about an occult

and prophetic symbol that occurs in this poem. It was a well-known song at that time

in the middle of 2007. Many people like this song and they sing it all the time. This

song was influenced everybody who listen to. Not only adult who like this song but

also children. Even they don’t understand the full of lyric, they at least are able to sing

the simple chorus.

Dajjal evermore want to persuade people especially religious people to follow him

and against the truth. He wants to recruit as many as he could to be his follower. It is

kind of propaganda of Devil agent. Rihanna and Jay-Z are member of Freemazon.

The community which goes along with David Rockefeller is one of illuminati

member. They want to conquer the world with New World Order. And without

consciousness, many people are automatically following them. The Dajjal Troop will

fight people by many ways for example by music, movie, opinion, and etc. They have

special symbol such as triangle with one-eye. We can look it to one dollar America. In

that currency there is pyramid and there is one-eye above. We can also see in Israel

Flag, there is two triangles, one of them is turn upside down. And the combination is

like star. And it is star for David, the symbol of Jew. It is an enemy for moeslem

people, so we must be careful of those symbols and their variety of Dajjal

Propaganda.
