OBJECTIVESSet up a two sided, full-bleed, folded document. Create and original new logo. Incorporate quality images, one cut out and one text wrap. Write at least 250 words of original copy, three paragraphs, headers, and sub headers.

PROCESSI created the logo in Adobe Illustrator using the font Bodega Sans and using the shape tool and pen tool for the paw.

I used vertical lines and various size paw prints to create repetition and unity. I used cute dog and cat images to represent the grooming company.

PROGRAMS - TOOLSAdobe Photoshop, HTML, CSS, TextWrangler, W3schools.com, W3C Markup Validation service

OBJECTIVESWrite content to describe process of creating a logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS. Identify hex colors to match logo using Photoshop color picker.

PROCESSI created this web page in TextWrangler. I also referenced several items in w3schools.com. This website is excellent for tutorials in HTML and CSS.

After linking the pre-made CSS document from our assignment to my HTML document I was able to build upon the code to tweak certain things to design my web page to match my logo design.

  • Photodesgin

DESCRIPTIONUse good photography to demonstrate image editing skills while incorporating a color scheme and match the photo to that color scheme within a well designed poster.

    COURSE - INSTRUCTORCOMM130 - Section 12Emily Kunz

    PROGRAMS - TOOLSAdobe Photoshop

OBJECTIVESLearn basic photography skills. Chose a color scheme and took a photo to match that color scheme. Used layers to design text and repeated graphic elements.

PROCESSFirst I chose a color scheme of monochromatic lime. Then I took a picture of a waterfall in my backyard. I decided to create a poster for a salon and day spa using the waterfall image. I used selective color in Photoshop to manipulate the image to have green tones to match my color scheme.

  • Montage

DESCRIPTIONA spiritual montage made by blending 4 images together and tying in nice typography to the design.

    DATE2/14/15

    COURSE - INSTRUCTORCOMM130 - Section 12Emily Kunz

PROGRAMS - TOOLSAdobe Photoshop, masking tool

OBJECTIVESBlended images together gradually, using masks. Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements. Apply typography principles.

PROCESSFirst I started with a cloud image and cropped it to 11X8.5. Then I selected the hands and globe and blended them together in Photoshop using masking over the light source in the sky image Playing with the opacity and brush size I added and subtracted image thought the masking tool. I then added the image of Christ and used the same masking tool in Photoshop. I added two contrasting type fonts to the montage. I used layer styles such as overlay, drop shadow and outer-glow to ensure text readability and visual effects.

  • Logos

DESCRIPTIONThree logo variations for a pizza company.

    DATE2/21/15

    COURSE - INSTRUCTORCOMM130 - Section 12Emily Kunz

PROGRAMS - TOOLSAdobe Illustrator - pen tool, shape tool and pathfinder options.

OBJECTIVESCreated three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience.

PROCESSI wanted to choose really effective fonts for this project. I spent time really searching for the right fonts to go with the look of each logo. Starting with the bottom logo I made a simple pizza slice shape with the shape tool and the pen tool. I used the pizza shape as the apostrophe in Pestos. I specifically chose the tetradic color scheme for this logo because I like the combination and thought it made for an attractive logo.

In the middle logo I created a tomato using the pen tool. I made this tomato ragged and fun so I need to pick a font to match the fun raggedness of the shape. I used a simple, yet effective complementary color of red and green.

The first logo was actually made last, I really liked the font I chose and tried to work around the font. I came up with the PP portion of the logo using the pathfinder options. Originally it was a horizontal logo but there was too much going on. I simplified the logo and came up with a more vertical logo shown here.

  • Event Ad

DESCRIPTIONA full color event ad with full bleed to promote a fund-raiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.

    PROGRAMS - TOOLSMicrosoft Word

OBJECTIVESFind, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design. Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

PROCESSI scanned an image from a magazine. In Word I created an event ad for mud run for charity. I used a nice clean sanserif font with reverse text and boxes. I used colors that went well with the image I used. Working in Word was challenging knowing the things I could do in other programs. I learned that I could do more in Word than I thought, when it comes to designing.

    COURSE - INSTRUCTORCOMM130 - Section 12Emily Kunz

PROGRAMS - TOOLSAdobe Illustrator - pen tool and shape toolAdobe InDesign

OBJECTIVESCreate a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Use the new logo to design layouts for a letterhead.

PROCESSI used Illustrator to create the gear symbol for my logo. I used the shape tool and pen tool. I used the pathfinder edit options for this logo as well. I selected the colors of orange black and gray. After creating the logo I placed it into an 8.511 InDesign document.

To create the letterhead I positioned the logo in the upper left corner. I knew I wanted to have the client information left aligned under neath the logo. I had the gear bleed off the page for interest. I then decided to repeat the 3 gear pattern to show repetition in the design.

PROGRAMS - TOOLSAdobe Illustrator - pen tool and shape toolAdobe InDesign

OBJECTIVESCreate a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card.

PROCESSI used Illustrator to create the gear symbol for my logo. I used the shape tool and pen tool. I used the pathfinder edit options for this logo as well. I selected the colors of orange black and gray. After creating the logo I placed it into an 8.511 InDesign document.

To create the business cards I kept the same alignment for the logo and client information as on the letterhead keeping the unity in both designs. I took the gear image and repeated it 3 times in the corner and bleeding off the edge. I repeated this pattern on the back of the business card in a reverse orange.

  • Flier

DESCRIPTIONBlack and White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.

    DATE1/24/15

    COURSE - INSTRUCTORCOMM130 - Section 12Emily Kunz

    PROGRAMS - TOOLSAdobe InDesign

OBJECTIVESApply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to create a basic flier layout.

PROCESSThe first step in this process was to sketch out four ideas. Using one sketch idea I created a digital flier in InDesign. Through feedback from peers, family and the teacher I refined my ideas. I used triangles as a unifying element. I have strong alignment for flow. I used text hierarchy with a large title, medium size subtitles and small body copy to help with understanding the content. With the use of white space I was able to create a piece that is easy to read and understand the flow.
