DescriptionA beaver is a mammal. The size of the beaver is about 3ft. & 0.9 meters long. The color of it’s fur is brown or dark brown. It’s nose is special for sniffing the food, it’s ears help hear danger, it’s arms help pick up the food instead of bending down, and it’s teeth gnaw down trees for their dam.

HabitatYou could find beavers anywhere in North America. It would live near ponds, streams, and any other water areas except for the ocean. It builds it’s home called dams out of trees and branches. They build it on top of the water, and the water is really shallow.

Living Habits

Beavers have to build or find a broken down tree for it’s habitat. It tears down trees, too. It eats bark from trees. It even builds tree lodges.

Animal GrowthWhen a beaver is just a kid it is called a kit. They weigh about 1 pound at birth. They grow rapidly and may reach 25 pounds in year’s time.

Did you know that in a few areas beavers may become nuisances when their dams flood the roads, crop lands, and timber areas? Beavers good points far offset such problems. And beaver ponds act as fire guards in the forests.
