Arts, Culture and EventsLittle Feet Festival 2018Sunday 21 October, 1.00pm – 5.00pm Edith Cowan University, Joondalup

Explorers aged 12 and under and their families are invited to join an action-packed adventure “On Safari”. Venture deep into the jungle to discover animals in their natural habitats through fun-filled activities, art workshops, performances and more at the free Little Feet Festival 2018. Artist-in-Residence 20182018 City of Joondalup Artist-in-residence Dr Helen Pynor has exhibited widely in Australia and Europe, and will bring a unique perspective to Joondalup as she engages residents and professional scientific and medical communities in the City. Pynor’s work explores issues of physical ability, access and inclusion, injury and rehabilitation and biomedical innovations. An artist and researcher, Dr Pynor’s artistic practice is characterised by exploring the nature of human and non-human bodies through engaging with living biological entities such as organs and cells.

Joondalup Twilight Markets 2018Friday evenings, 30 November to 21 December 2018, 5.30pm Central Walk, Joondalup

Kaleidoscope 2018Thursday 1 – Sunday 4 November 2018, 5.30pm to late Joondalup City Centre

World-class illumination festival Kaleidoscope will again light up Joondalup’s City Centre with a brilliant array of projections, art, lighting displays and performances to create WA’s leading light and technology festival – and it’s free!

Over four evenings, the Joondalup City Centre will transform into an extraordinary wonderland of illumination, showcasing Joondalup Library, Central Park and other icons of the Joondalup landscape in a whole new light.

Come early from 5.00pm to enjoy bountiful offerings from the festival food trucks or one of the many local restaurants, then watch as the sun goes down, the lights come up and the City is transformed.

Sunday SerenadesThe ever-popular Sunday Serenades presents a series of fine music concerts in the City of Joondalup Civic Chambers on the third Sunday of each month from May to December. With an outstanding selection of music including jazz, classical and choral, there is something for everyone.

Spend your Valentine’s evening with a picnic under the stars on the lush lawn at Joondalup Resort. Featuring some of Australia’s most renowned performers, the City’s Valentine’s Concert has built a reputation as one of the premier annual music events in the region.

Urban Couture 20191 – 24 March 2019

Urban Couture is a vibrant program of fashion related events that has become a regular feature in the diaries of Perth bloggers and fashion elite. Supporting the next generation of the Western Australian fashion industry, Urban Couture brings designers, photographers, textile artists and creative business entrepreneurs into the Northern Corridor of Perth to network and showcase their talent.

Ambassadors for Urban Couture have included costume design royalty Patricia Field – famous for her work on the smash hit TV series Sex and the City – and international design powerhouse Karen Walker. Be sure to follow the City’s social media platforms to be among the first to know the Ambassador for 2019.

Joondalup Festival 2019Friday 5 – Sunday 7 April 2019Central Park and Joondalup City Centre, Joondalup

The Joondalup Festival is the spectacular finale to the City’s summer events season. Attracting around 50,000 people each year, Joondalup Festival offers a three-day feast of arts and culture, including local, national and international performers as well as markets, food stalls and licensed areas all within walking distance from Joondalup train station.

Community Choral Project 2019Friday 5 and Sunday 7 April Central Park, Joondalup

The Community Choral project is an arts project open to all members of the community. The Project brings members of the community together to work on a production that is showcased as a highlight of the Joondalup Festival.

The choir is made up of amateur, semi-professional singers and music enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.

Community Art Exhibition 2019Held in June each year, the Community Art Exhibition showcases the artistic talent of the local community. The exhibition is open to City residents and members of local visual arts associations. Entries will be open from 4 March – 30 April 2019.

Invitation Art Prize 2019

The Invitation Art Prize is a prestigious annual art prize exhibiting artworks by professional artists from across Western Australia. Interested artists are invited to submit an expression of interest for the City of Joondalup Invitation Art Prize 2019 on the City’s website.

Hillarys Boat Harbour

Hillarys Boat Harbour is one of Western Australia’s top award-winning tourist attractions offering a wide range of entertainment options, with beautiful coastal parklands and a sheltered beach easily accessible by pram or wheelchair, a great variety of bespoke art and souvenir shops, cocktail bars, fine-dining and family-friendly restaurants.

Balmy summer evenings are made for gatherings, and with a great range of barbeque and picnic facilities available throughout the City there are plenty of opportunities to get the neighbourhood together.

The Meet-Your-Neighbour Program aims to help bring the community together to build a safer and more connected neighbourhood – one gathering at a time. The Program provides a kit with everything you need to organise a neighbourhood get-together, including invitations, tips for hosts and even bocce, cricket and football sets to loan.

Youth ProgramsThe City is focused on enhancing the lives of young people in the region, with a great range of programs, events and activities on offer for young people between the ages of 11-25.

Beaches

Perth life is all about the beaches in summer, and the City of Joondalup is home to some of the best. Stunning beaches await for snorkelling, kitesurfing, walking the dog or relaxing with the family, all within the City’s boundaries.

A Beach Enclosure at Sorrento Beach provides an extra level of safety for beach lovers and swimmers visiting this iconic family-friendly beach.

Beach Accessibility

The Hillarys Boat Harbour beach mat allows easier access to the beach and into the water for mothers with prams, wheelchair users and pedestrians.

Beach wheelchairs, which are easily pushed over sand and into the water, are also available for use at Mullaloo Beach and Hillarys Boat Harbour. This is a free service provided by the City for children and adults with disability. For further information call 9400 4268.

Iluka Beach

Iluka Beach is the perfect spot to watch the sunset this summer and an ideal starting point to complete the 14km coastal walk from Marmion to Burns Beach. Keep an eye out for fairy wrens and quendas in natural bushland or soak up the scenery from the new viewing platform situated across Iluka Foreshore Park, a brand new nautical themed nature playground that kids of all ages are guaranteed to love! Pick up your weekend morning coffee from the Iluka Foreshore Park food truck or head to Burns Beach Café for a delicious breakfast.

Summer is a great time to get out and about and explore one of the City’s more than 300 parks and reserves.

Shepherds Bush Reserve in Kingsley is a fantastic place for kids to take their bikes and scooters, with a mini track of winding roads complete with road signs, pedestrian crossings and a pretend-play petrol pump and a BMX/mountain bike trail nearby.

Nature lovers will appreciate the serenity of surrounding bushland home to native plants and animals such as kangaroos and the endangered Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo.

Yellagonga Regional Park offers two dual use paths which loop through the park, providing visitors with vistas over the lake and taking in some of the parks interesting historical and natural features.

Visit Neil Hawkins Park or Picnic Cove as starting points to explore the significant biodiversity of the park.
