Bi-Cultural Day School is delighted to honor Amy and Richard Breslow, distinguished parents and leaders in the school and larger Jewish community, whose support of Bi-Cultural’s educational mission has been unwavering. All four of the Breslow’s children have attended Bi-Cultural -- Freddy (Class of 2003), Rebecca (Class of 2005), Emily (Class of 2005) and Isaac (graduating this year with the Class of 2009). Though Amy and Richard lead busy lives, they both have made time for involvement at Bi-Cultural, as well as at their synagogue,
Congregation Agudath Sholom, and other organizations in the Jewish community. For six years, Richard served on Bi-Cultural’s Board of Trustees. Among their other roles at the school through the years, Amy and Richard also served as Co-Chairs of Bi-Cultural’s 49th Anniversary Dinner-Dance. Amy has also held numerous positions in the Parents Association, including Secretary and Editor of the Newsletter. Both Amy and Richard have also served, at different times, on the Board of Directors at Congregation Agudath Sholom, where each also chaired the Education Committee. Amy also twice chaired the annual dinner-dance at Agudath Sholom. Richard, who has both his graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, began his career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked fi rst in fi nance and later in foreign exchange. He subsequently joined Bank of America, where he ran foreign exchange trading. Three years ago he co-founded EQA Partners, a foreign exchange and global macro hedge fund, headquartered in Stamford. Amy, who received her undergraduate degree from Harvard and her law degree from NYU, recently returned to practicing law, after an 18-year break to raise her family. Toward the end of that time, she returned to NYU for an advanced law degree and is now an attorney with the Stamford law fi rm of Cummings and Lockwood, in the Private Clients Group. Amy and Richard met in a synagogue youth group in Philadelphia and were high school sweethearts. The Breslows’ feeling about their experience as Bi-Cultural parents was summed up eloquently in a recent refl ection by Amy: “From the fi rst week, we understood that Bi-Cultural was not just a school we sent the children off to each morning, but rather it was a focus of family life and commitment. The Bi-Cultural community has been central to how we are raising our children, how we spend vacations, how we celebrate Shabbat. We are in the school and the school is very much in our lives and in our home.” Bi-Cultural is pleased and proud to honor Amy and Richard Breslow, important members of the school family and community, at this, our 53rd Anniversary Celebration.
CelebrationGuests of Honor
Amy and Richard Breslow
It is with great pleasure that Bi-Cultural Day School bestows this year’s Jane Shoztic Memorial Award on two outstanding members of the Bi-Cultural Day School family, Sharon and Mark Feller. Their dedication, warmth, energy and commitment to Bi-Cultural mirror the unique spirit brought to the school by its business manager of some 45 years in whose memory the award is named and who is remembered with great fondness by so many in our community. In the eight years since their oldest entered Kindergarten at Bi-Cultural, Sharon and Mark have emerged as important leaders in the school’s parent body. Now, all three of their children are Bi-Cultural students: Zev in grade 7, Doron in grade 5 and Liat in grade 4. Mark himself is an alumnus of the school -- BCDS Class of 1976. In her role as President of the Bi-Cultural Parents Association for the past three years, Sharon has been a powerhouse of energy and accomplishment, in charge of a large, productive and dynamic organization with important and wide-ranging projects touching every student, parent and teacher in the school. Starting out as a class parent, she quickly rose to the critical role of chair of the school’s Annual Fundraising Auction. She also represented Bi-Cultural in the fi rst class of the Behrend Institute for Leadership at UJF of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien. A graduate of Goucher College, Sharon brings years of professional experience in merchandising and personnel management to her many and varied responsibilities as the school’s number one volunteer. Mark, who is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Bridgeport School of Law, is a Principal Attorney with the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. For more than ten years, Mark has served as a member of Bi-Cultural’s Board of Trustees, and is presently a Vice-President on the Executive Board. Mark has also served on the Board of Directors of Congregation Agudath Sholom, the Board of Directors of the United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, and was a “Super Sunday” Co-Chair for several years. Born and raised in Stamford, Sharon and Mark are members at Congregation Agudath Sholom, where they met as youngsters. They are both also actively involved with Chabad of Stamford. Sharon and Mark’s commitment to BCDS follows in the longstanding family tradition set by their parents, of leadership and volunteerism on behalf of the Stamford Jewish Community.

When G-d created Adam, He took him around the trees of the Garden of Eden, and He said to him: “Look at My works! How beautiful and praiseworthy they are. Everything that I have created, I created for you. Take care not to damage and destroy My world, for if you damage it, there is no one to repair it after you.”
--Kohelet Rabbah, 7:28
Our goal in planning the Celebration Dinner was to create the same glorious event as in years past, but with sensitivity to our environment and a smaller carbon footprint. Where we could, we chose to use products, suppliers and procedures that have less impact on the planet: • Our journal is electronic, saving paper and expense. • Invitations and other items were printed with eco-friendly ink
on paper from renewable forests. • All of our decorations are lovingly created by BCDS students from recycled materials. • Tonight you are enjoying all organic produce and chicken, as well as wild salmon.

We are proud to honor Sharon and Mark Feller for their leadership and commitment to Bi-Cultural. May we all follow their
example of dedication to our community.
Sharon: Thanks for your inspiration, creativity, guidance, and laughter; for late night
talks in your car, and for coffee in the morning, but most of all, thank you for your friendship.
Emily and Eddie
We would like to thank Mrs. Herman, Morah Elisheva, Mrs. Miller, and the Third and Sixth Grade faculty for an enriching and rewarding year.
