A CHRISTMAS MESSAGEBC Conference Church Family: I would like to share a Christmas letter with you that I sent to numerous faithful workers in the BC Conference -- With the myriad of distractions flying at us through the media, shopping, office parties, and traveling, we need reminders to keep Christ in Christmas, right?  I am sure that you have seen the following reminders on buttons, t-shirts, billboards, and yard signs – those CHRISTmas reminders:

Jesus is the “Reason for the Season” Keep CHRIST in CHRISTmas No Christ, No Christmas. Know Christ. Know Christmas

Should we be making it our personal mission to tell everyone we see, “Merry CHRISTmas” (over-dramatizing the ‘Christ’ part)?

Doing this are we really helping our cause?  Wishing someone Merry Christmas is often offensive to many people.  “Should this make us, the Church, upset?” And many would say, “It is our holiday, after all, right?”

Many believe that this holiday should be all about Jesus, so we should expect that everyone, even those who don’t follow Jesus should honor Him as Savior and Lord during the Christmas season, right?

Forcing someone to recite something they don’t believe is this the right thing to do? Expecting that they will honor Jesus during December though they don’t believe He is their King and Savior, is this the best way? Here are some excellent reminders I found in a Christmas message (I will call them “better” CHRISTmas Reminders):

Maybe a better way to keep Christ in Christmas is to show people love.  Even people that don’t deserve it.

Maybe a better way to keep Christ in Christmas is to pursue peace with the people because God, through Jesus, has pursued peace with us.

Maybe a better way to keep Christ in Christmas is to live joyfully in the midst of difficulty.  Because we have a Savior who

endured our suffering.

Maybe a better way to keep Christ in Christmas is to live generously.  Because we serve a King who has given us salvation.

Maybe a better way to keep Christ in Christmas is to live our lives as if the God of the world sent His Son to call us His

own. My prayer for all of us (which includes me) is that God through His Spirit will grant us wisdom to know how He desires us to reach the lost during the holiday season through grace, mercy, kindness and love. Bless you each one for all you do every day to Grow God’s Kingdom whether serving in your local church, caring for kids in our schools, providing resource materials in the ABC, or working in the Conference Office.

Your “everyday” commitment and dedication to the King of Kings and Lord of Lord’s and your availability for service is a Christmas gift that just keeps on giving – praise God for each of you! Wishing you and your family a blessed and joy-filled Holiday Season.

Wayne Culmore, President

The Conference office will be closed for the holiday season from December 20 until January 1, 2013.

BEWARE OF THIS THIEF - HE TARGETS CHURCHESDescription of Event:On Sabbath, December1, 2012, there was a visitor at one of our Ontario churches who claimed to be a Seventh-day Adventist from Moncton New Brunswick new to the area to attend classes at university.

The man was able to prey on the kindness and generosity of one of the members, who gave him $160.00 cash.

Within the following week, the man called this member and said "I would like to pay you back now but as I do not have the cash, I will deposit it into your account from my account out east."

The unsuspecting member gave the man his bank account information and the man drained this dear senior’s bank account completely.

Fortunately, the member did not have most of his/her money in that account, but still about $800.00 was stolen.    Physical Description of the Thief:The person is a male Caucasian, middle aged (42-52), light brown hair that is a bit long or shaggy.

His height is about  5feet 10 or 11 inches.  Medium weight, and seems to be in good health.  His Story:He goes by the name Kevin Vaughn (possibly an alias name).

The story he has used has to do with the Moncton Church in New Brunswick, that his father and grandfather lived in the house next to the Conference Office.

He gives great detail about his connections to the Adventist Church.  What is being Done:The matter has been reported to the police, who are now working on the case with the member who was a victim and the pastor.

This announcement is an attempt to pre-empt any additional attempts by this person to take advantage of other churches and members. Please be on the lookout for situations like this and remind the church members that there are some people (even those claiming to belong to the church) who may at times try to take advantage of the good graces and generosity of caring Christians (especially the members with the softest hearts).

Please caution the members not to give or loan large amounts of money to strangers or give out their banking and personal information at any time.
