CONFERENCE UPDATEOn Tuesday I was scheduled to be on a flight on my way to Maryland to attend the North American Division Year End Meetings. Due to the “Hurricane Sandy” I had to reschedule and will be flying there on Friday. I would appreciate your prayers for safe travel and that God will guide the leaders of His church to make good and wise decisions.
Below are a few items for you to place on your calendars as well as a few f updates that may be of interest to you:
Town Hall Meetings & the Regional Meetings for Pastors and Principals: (during the day we will have our Pastor’s & Principals meetings – during the evening on the dates listed below we will have District Town Hall meetings for interested church members) More information to follow.
Vancouver Island April 30th Tuesday Nanaimo Church May 1st Wednesday Rest Haven Church
Northern May 14th Tuesday Prince George Church
Okanagan May 16th Thursday Rutland Church
Fraser Valley March 12th Tuesday Abbotsford Church
Vancouver March 13th Wednesday Surrey Church
New Conference Office:While there is a level of excitement regarding the progress we are making towards one day having a new Conference Office we are not yet ready to make any public announcements until we see a few more key pieces of the puzzle fall into place. Please keep the Board of Directors and the Building & Finance Committee in your prayers concerning this matter. Hopefully by December I will be able to make an announcement regarding this matter.
Camp Meeting 2013 “In Christ Alone”:In preparation for Camp Meeting 2013 all of our church members are encouraged to read through the four gospels as often as possible. Also, I know that you would receive an added blessing if you would read through the following EGW books : Desire of Ages, Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, Steps to Christ, and Christ Objects Lessons as they prepare for next year’s camp meeting. As a reminder our weekend speakers are Shawn Boonstra (1st weekend) and Doug Bachelor (2nd weekend). We have also finalized on the remaining speakers: the 9 am meeting will be Justis St Hilaire (speaking on Jesus & Feast Keeping); 11 am from Monday to Friday will be James Rafferty (Jesus & the Book of Revelation); and the evening meeting will be Ty Gibson (Monday to Thursday – “In Christ Alone”). Also, in conversation with Elder Ern Brake he informed me that he is well on the way to having most of the seminars filled. We will announce these just as soon as all the information is available. Please continue to pray that nest year’s camp meeting will indeed be a time of revival and reformation.
Passionate Focus on Youth – Christian Education:I am pleased to tell you that our schools throughout BC are experiencing a positive spiritual climate and in the days ahead you will be hearing exciting stories of how God is blessing our young people. Our schools are blessed with great kids and awesome Christ-centered teachers! However, I would solicit your prayers and support as a number of our schools are faced with financial challenges and in some cases declining enrolment. We are living in a time when our schools are no longer the only option parents are giving their children. Other Christian and private schools seem to be attracting our young people. This just means that we are going to have to work harder at convincing our members that Adventist Education is still the best option.

Evangelism:This year we have received more requests for evangelism than what we have funds for. If you have the financial means to help grow God’s Kingdom through evangelism your financial assistance would be greatly appreciated. Praise God for all the good that It Is Written, VOP, and are ministries are having throughout Canada; however, I would invite you to partner with your local conference as we reach out to lost men, women, boy’s and girl’s right here in British Columbia. My friends, we need YOUR financial help!
January Pastor’s & Principal’s Meeting:Each year all the pastor’s of the BC Conference congregate at Camp Hope for spiritual renewal and an opportunity to share what is going on in their local church. This next year the date for this time of refreshment for your pastor’s is January 13-16, 2013 (We meet from Sunday to Wednesday)
Personnel Items:Later this month Elder Wesley Torres will provide you with an update regarding personnel changes throughout the conference.
PRAYER REQUESTS:Pastor Manuel Silva – he continues to struggle with intense pain and needs your prayers on a daily basis as he battles with cancer– we need a miracle!Oakridge Church Family – they are hurting for their pastor (Manuel Silva) – pray for the courage of each of the membersOur Youth – the enemy is attacking our young people – oh how they need our love, support, and prayersMission Trips – a number of our schools are planning mission trips – pray for safety, revival, and that they will get the financial support neededEach other - oh how we need each other’s prayers!
Finally, I would like to share with you the words of the following song that my wife read to me last week while we were having our morning devotions – the words are powerful!
"Trust His Heart" by Babbie Mason Chorus:
All things work for our good God is too wise to be mistaken He sees the master planThough sometimes we don't God is too good to be unkind He holds the future in his hand,See how they could So when you don't understand So don't live as those who have no hope,Struggles that break our hearts in two When don't see his plan ALL our hope is found in him.Sometimes blind us to the truth When you can't trace his hand We see the present clearlyOur Father knows what's best for us Trust His Heart He sees the first and lastHis ways are not our own So when your pathway grows dim And you just don't see him, Remember your never alone
Thank you for the privilege you have given me to serve you, and may God richly bless each of you

VOAR radio is committed to working with you in service for Jesus Christ. We want to be a means used of God in sharing the Gospel with Churches across the country, by presenting Christ through excellence and professionalism. We want to faithfully fulfill that purpose, and ask that you help us by encouraging your congregation to listen often, whether by Internet, Bell ExpressVu, or their local RDU. We share the common goal of building up the body of believers, "...until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." (Eph. 4:13) Our hope is that you will regard us as a working partner toward that end. Radio is an effective tool carrying the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the nooks and crannies otherwise hard to reach. Right now we are looking for encouragement to continue this radio ministry. Our annual Sharathon is a three day broadcast of prayer, worshipful music and sharing. We'll be inviting listeners to give financial support to help underwrite operating costs. We would appreciate your help in announcing our annual SHARATHON with the message below. We welcome your support as together we proclaim the love and truth of God's Word, and we touch so many lives daily. Perhaps your Church can consider what they can do financially also. We need the support of everyone. Thanks for caring and sharing. November 5th -7th: NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES…VOAR Christian Radio will be celebrating the annual SHARATHON in a three day broadcast. You are invited to join the Sharathon hosts along with the volunteer staff for a time of prayer, worship, thanksgiving and promise. Tune in to VOAR in your area for more information, or call toll free, 888-740-8627. With your help, and others in our listening family, VOAR will be able to reach its goal of $60,000. WINFIELD SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCHAt the best of times, baptisms can be challenging. One that I performed recently in another Adventist Church, was a chilling experience. The thirteen year old girl was assured by me that the water would be warm like a bathtub.
The water heater did not work and it was in the dead of winter. The church was located on the side of a mountain about halfway up.
The water was the closest to ice that I had ever felt.
The look of shock on her face as we both stepped into the tank was evident to all. She started to shiver and I felt the Divine impression to abbreviate what I was going to say.
As she came up out of the water with a gasp I am sure the angels smiled and the memory will be one she will always remember.
We still laugh about it whenever it comes up in conversation.
The opposite happened in a recent baptism in Winfield. I again mentioned to Edna that the water would be warm like a bathtub.
We had it planned to sing with our quartet while she and I stood in the water and then do the baptism. I was a member of the quartet.
This time the water was hot. I began to understand how lobsters felt when they are being fresh boiled while the people are looking on.
It wasn't scalding, but it was very warm. This time, I could not abbreviate the ceremony because of the special music.
To her credit, she never complained about it. The joy of the baptism overshadowed the discomfort we both felt.
The baptism shown in the following pictures had all the makings for disaster. The wife does not like putting her head under water, especially face up.
She adamantly rehearsed that with me before we stepped into the water.
I carefully checked the water temperature this time, before stepping into the tank. The water temperature was perfect.
The husband was a big man weighing close to double my weight.
I had planned to have my Bible worker help me with Bernie's baptism, but the baptismal date was in conflict with his preaching engagement at another church.
continued on next page
Knowing this, I had increased my weight training two weeks before to make sure I could handle the situation.
I rehearsed the procedure with Bernie, emphasizing several times the importance of bending the knees and laying back gently into the water, gripping tightly to my arm while I supported him with my hand behind his back.
We started with his wife Leann. Even as I raised my hand above her head, I'm sure I heard her whispering something about not letting water go up her nose. She insisted on pinching her nostrils tight.
All went well and we now had a new happy member in our Winfield Church. But there was Bernie waiting his turn. A short, silent, Nehemiah prayer, one last second reminder to bend his knees and then it happened.
One of his feet slipped on the bottom of the tank as he was bending his knees. That leg came up close to the surface and I felt the full weight of my friend Bernie on my right arm.
I planted my feet wider apart - another Nehemiah Prayer - and with the help of the buoyant water, our guardian angels, Bernie finding his footing again, and that extra strength you get with an adrenaline rush, Bernie also emerged from the water as the newest member of the Winfield Church. I love baptisms. Leann, Bernie, Edna, Colby, Sergie and Cloe have a special bond between us as they have recently given their hearts to Jesus. We all love the Lord so much. A baptism sometimes has special surprises but always has special blessings. Despite the unexpected, it has become one of the favorite parts of my ministry.

100 Mile House Over the last 2 years Adventist Health 100 Mile House has began connecting a number of health ministry programs for our community. Dr. David Ramorasata and Sue Wolfe lead a team from the 100 Mile House SDA Church that has conducted two Depression Recovery programs with over forty participants.
Three of the participants attended several sessions of our recent evangelistic meetings. Among Dr. Ramorasata’s patients that he sent to these programs several have got off most their medications and are enjoying a much better quality of life.
In addition, two stress management seminars were conducted by Pastor Cameron Johnston, a Hope and Healing seminar with Phil Brewer from Silver Hills and a walking club and other health programs by Rick and Rebecca Dupperon.
We conduct a monthly Vegetarian Supper Club with from twelve to fifteen participants. During camp meeting 2012 four of the 100 Mile House Health Ministry team took CHIP training and we currently are looking at the possibility of conducting our first CHIP early in 2013.
ADVENTIST HEALTH IN THE CARIBOOWilliams Lake
Over the last couple of years the two Adventist churches in Williams Lake have conducted a number of health ministry programs for our community. The Cariboo Central church had Phil Brewer come and conduct a weekend Hope and Healing seminar with over 100 participants. The Williams Lake Church has conducted two Depression Recovery seminars led by Rita Corbett and Pastor Norman Johnson with over fifty participants in each seminar.
Beginning in 2012 an exciting new development took place regarding health ministries in Williams Lake. A joint church health ministry team was formed called Adventist Health Williams Lake with co-directors Dr. Glenn Gill from the Williams Lake Church and Pastor Cameron Johnston from Cariboo Central. Approved by both church boards and with team participants from each church a number of joint initiatives have started which make us all very excited about the future.
Two recent new initiatives are a monthly Vegetarian Supper Club which meets the fourth Sunday of the month with 15 to 30 participants. During camp meeting 2012 five of our health ministry team members took CHIP training and we are currently conducting our first Williams Lake CHIP with thirteen participants plus our medical director Dr. Glenn Gill will be attending the CHIP summit in Georgia in November. To launch our CHIP program Dr. Gill arranged for a ten minute presentation about the program to all the medical doctors in Williams Lake and a team of our ladies catered a full vegetarian lunch for the physicians.
For the interest of readers of Adventist Health BC, here are the Adventist Health Williams Lake vision and mission statements:
To use health education as a ministry tool to continue the healing ministry of Jesus. To motivate and encourage church and community involvement in health ministry. To use health education to connect and help individuals, families and organizations in the Williams Lake Community (vegetarian supper club, CHIP, booths at trade shows, etc.)To create awareness of the benefits of a positive healthy lifestyle while delivering positive, effective and healing lifestyle programs to the Williams Lake Community. To educate, motivate and support persons with or at risk of serious lifestyle illness on how to make changes to diet, fitness and other aspects of their lifestyle that will lead to both healing and prevention of sickness and disease (CHIP, Depression Recovery, etc.)To raise funds needed to finance and promote health education in Williams Lake (co-sponsorships, individual or organizational donations, etc.)
