TYPES OF BATTERIES
• DANIEL CELL
FUEL CELL
DRY CELL (ZINC –CARBON)Leclanche Cell
ALKALINE CELL
LEAD-ACID CELL
• Lead –acid has 6 electrochemical cells, each generating 2V.
Reactions:•ANODE (Negative):Pb → Pb2+ + 2e
The Pb2+ produced will reacts with sulfuric acid to form a precipitate of lead sulfate which builds up on the plates.
Pb2+ SO42-
→ PbSO4
Reactions:•CATHODE (positive):PbO2 + 4H+ + 2e → Pb2+ + 2H2O
The Pb2+ produced will reacts with sulfuric acid to form a precipitate of lead sulfate which builds up on the plates.
Pb2+ SO42-
→ PbSO4
Rechargeable
• Lead-acid batteries are rechargeable. The act as an electrochemical and electrolytic cell.
• By passing electric current back to the cell, Pb2+ can be converted to Pb and PbO2.
2PbSO4 + 2H2O → PbO2 + 4H+ +
2 SO42-
