Handling of Lube Oil

Ensure that the cap of the drum is not kept open.Ensure that the valve and nipple is not dirtyEnsure that the oil can has its cap and is kept closed at all times.Ensure that the oil can used is for the same grade of oil every time ( do not use the same can for different grades of oil)Identify and keep separate cans for different grades of oil.Keep the spout of the oil can after use.Do not keep the breather opening of the oil drum open after the oil has been withdrawn from the drum.

CHECK THE COLOUR OF THE OIL . IT MUST BE CLEAR AND NOT HAZY.

CHECK FOR WATER INGRESS.CHECK FOR DIRT.CHECK FOR PARTICLES.SMELL THE OIL.CHECK OIL LEVEL

Use the correct grade of oil always.Always ensure that the can used was not used for another grade of oilEnsure that the oil drum’s breather cap is not left open.Do not mix different grades of oil.Ensure that the oil can’s top and spout cap is kept shut after use.Ensure that the pump has a breather plug, and keep them on.Do not leave oil cans in unprotected area.Check for the oil level regularly. Attend non functioning gauge glass/ oil level cup .

Oil degradation typically causes the oil to change in color from amber to reddish brown in color.

Breakdown of the extreme pressure and anti-wear additives sometimes produces an unpleasant odor that is easy to detect.

Many times wear debris are large enough to see and feel, particularly when they have been collected in an sample bottle
