Different type of certificatesMaterial certificates- DNV product certificate: Approval of Manufacturer- Manufacturer Works certificate: Approval of Manufacturer- Test reports

Type approval : Design assessment + Prototype testing: Valid for 4 years

Case by case approval: One time design assessment

Equipment certification - Type approval + Workshop testing of the product itself: Engines, Air receivers etc.- Material certificate + Testing at manufacturers premises: For eg. Valves>100 NB

Marine equipment certificates (MED certificates)

Products approved by National authorities (For e.g. MMD)

What do they mean? According to DNV Rules :

Det Norske Veritas Product Certificate (NV):A document signed by a surveyor of the Society stating:

— conformity with rule requirements

— that tests are carried out on the certified product itself

— that tests are made on samples taken from the certified product itself

— that tests are performed in presence of the surveyor or in accordance with special agreements.

— Manufacturer is approved by DNV under DNV’s approval of manufacturer program (For material certification)

Works Certificate (W): A document signed by the manufacturer stating:

— conformity with rule requirements

— that tests are carried out on the certified product itself

— that tests are made on samples taken from the certified product itself

— that tests are witnessed and signed by a qualified department of the manufacturers.

—Manufacturer is approved by DNV under DNV’s approval of manufacturer program (For material certification)
