Younger children can start off by drawing stick figures. In theabove drawings, you can draw a lollipop by adding lines orcircles. I see a man running. But what about the second man?What is he doing? Why are his arms wide open? You can make lots of stick figures. You can draw girl stickfigures too by adding clothes. Or you can draw stick figureswith hair or make them raise their hands, bend their body and

CircleFigures
You can use basic shapes likecircle, triangle, square, rectangleto come up with simple drawings. The above illustration shows a
Missy the Cat facing you and theother is Mister Rabbit with his backto you.
The Cat: Draw a circle. Add asmaller circle inside the big circle.Make sure the inside circle isplaced near the bottom of thecircle. Then you can add the ears,eyes, nose, whiskers and don'tforget a tiny tail. Meow...Missysays "Be quiet. She wants tosleep."
The Rabbit: Draw a circle. Putinside a small circle near thebottom and part of a circle on top.
Add the ears making sure it’spointed and long with whiskers.’

The Owl and the Clown
The Owl: Draw a circle.
Inside the circle draw twosmaller circles as theeyes. Place a large vbetween the two circlesand a smaller v below. Fillin and complete asillustrated.
The Clown: Draw acircle. Draw two smallcircles as the eyes and
one bigger circle as thenose. Now draw a curvedline into a smile.Complete the face byadding a hat, a frill for the
collar, laugh lines and younow have a happy clown.

There are still many shapes which you can use to draw simplefigures like houses, boats, doors, windows, tables and chairs. It'swonderful how several shapes join together can form things of many kinds.Another is the letter drawing. Using a letter, one can actuallycreate something simple and cute. This can be done by olderkids like the kindergarten students and up.

Basic color schemes- Introduction to Color Theory
With colors you can set a mood, attractattention, or make a statement. You canuse color to energize, or to cool down. Byselecting the right color scheme, you cancreate an ambiance of elegance, warmthor tranquility, or you can convey an
image of playful youthfulness. Color canbe your most powerful design element if you learn to use it effectively.
Colors affect us in numerous ways, both mentally
and physically. A strong red color has been shownto raise the blood pressure, while a blue color hasa calming effect.Being able to use colors consciously andharmoniously can help you create spectacularresults.

The Color Wheel
The color wheel or color circle is thebasic tool for combining colors. The firstcircular color diagram was designed bySir Isaac Newton in 1666. The color wheel is designed so thatvirtually any colors you pick from it willlook good together. Over the years,many variations of the basic designhave been made, but the most commonversion is a wheel of 12 colors based onthe RYB (or artistic) color model. Traditionally, there are a number of color combinations that are considered
especially pleasing. These are calledcolor harmonies or color chords andthey consist of two or more colors witha fixed relation in the color wheel.ColorImpact is designed to dynamicallycreate a color wheel to match your

Primary,Secondary and
Tertiary ColorsIn the RYB (or subtractive) color model, the primary colors are red,yellow and blue. The three secondary colors (green, orange and purple) are createdby mixing two primary colors.Another six tertiary colors are created by mixing primary andsecondary colors.

Warm and cool colors The color circle can be divided into warm and cool colors.
Warm colors are vivid and energetic, and tend to advance inspace.Cool colors give an impression of calm, and create a soothingimpression.
White, black and gray are consideredto be neutral.

Tints, Shades, and Tones These terms are often used incorrectly, although they describefairly simple color concepts. If a color is made lighter by adding
white, the result is called a tint. If black is added, the darkerversion is called a shade. And if gray is added, the result is adifferent tone.

Color Harmonies- basic techniques for creating color schemesBelow are shown the basic color chords based on the color
wheel. Complementary color scheme Colors that are opposite each other on thecolor wheel are considered to becomplementary colors (example: red andgreen).
The high contrast of complementary colorscreates a vibrant look especially when usedat full saturation. This color scheme must bemanaged well so it is not jarring.Complementary color schemes are tricky touse in large doses, but work well when you
want something to stand out.Complementary colors are really bad for text.

Analogous color schemeAnalogous color schemes use colors that are next to
each other on the color wheel. They usually match
well and create serene and comfortable designs.
Analogous color schemes are often found in nature
and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.
Make sure you have enough contrast when choosing
an analogous color scheme.
Choose one color to dominate, a second to support.
The third color is used (along with black, white or
gray) as an accent.

Triadic color schemeA triadic color scheme uses colors that are
evenly spaced around the color wheel.
Triadic color schemes tend to be quite vibrant,
even if you use pale or unsaturated versions of
your hues.
To use a triadic harmony successfully, the
colors should be carefully balanced - let one
color dominate and use the two others for
accent.

Split-Complementary color
schemeThe split-complementary color scheme is a
variation of the complementary color scheme. In
addition to the base color, it uses the two colors
adjacent to its complement.
This color scheme has the same strong visualcontrast as the complementary color scheme, but
has less tension.
The split-complimentary color scheme is often a
good choice for beginners, because it is difficult tomess up.

Rectangle (tetradic) color
schemeThe rectangle or tetradic color scheme uses four
colors arranged into two complementary pairs.
This rich color scheme offers plenty of possibilities
for variation.
Tetradic color schemes works best if you let one
color be dominant.
You should also pay attention to the balance
between warm and cool colors in your design.

scheme The square color scheme is similar to therectangle, but with all four colors spacedevenly around the color circle.

This is an apple drawn with oil pastels. Blocks of
color were sketched in to define the shape and form of the fruit,while slight variations in value were also applied in layers. The oilpastel medium lends itself to blending, either with a tool or fingers,which helps create gradient effects. Once the apple was drawn andblended, frantic lines were energetically whipped around andthrough the apple to add a surrealistic perspective.

In working with oil pastels,there are two things tokeep in mind: the roughness of the
surface on which you are painting and thepressure of the strokes.
The rougher the surface, the more broken the colorsbecome. A smoother texture will result a less brokenlook. Applying more pressure to your strokesincreases the intensity of the colors. Increasingpressure also leads to less broken colors in thefinished work.

Use the sides of your oil pastel sticks to
cover large masses of the painting.
Experiment with different stroke pressures to vary the color
density and achieve different effects. Use your judgment and
have fun. If a stick breaks, save the broken pieces.

Use linear strokes for hatching, crosshatching, making outlines or addingdetails. Again, the pressure is the key to control the
intensity of the colors.
If you want to keep an area extremelydark or light, it is important to only usecolors of like tone in those areas.Don't try to tint darker colors with
lighter ones (or vice versa).
For a dark area that has becomemuddied with light pigments, you canscrape off the unwanted pigments andreapply the dark colors. But with light
colors, if you try to scrape off a regionand rework it, you will find that the darkareas underneath still show through. Forthis reason, some oil pastel artistssuggest covering the scraped area withwhite pastel first.

Use a palette knife or a razor blade to create a'sgraffito' effect (the word is Italian, and it means incising). You
can also use soft lead pencils, colored pencils for this purpose. Thistechnique is great for creating fur-like textures on animals.

Scrape areas with a razor to create aghostlike or fuzzy look. As you add layers of oil
pastels on top of each other, the painting can begin to look
too heavy. Scraping off a region before adding morepigment allows you to avoid this problem while still addinglayers. Just as a painting knife is important for an oilpainter, so a razor is the oil pastel artist's friend.
