Bands The 1984-85 marching season started out In late August with the annual marching band camp. This took place two weeks be- fore school started. The first week was for the freshmen who had to learn the funda- mentals of marching before the whole band started in. The second week was for the whole band. During this time, band members learned new routines and music in preparation for the first football game. The band's job of entertaining the football crowd took a turn towards the new, com petlng in the Durand March- ing Band Invitational. Under the direction of Jack Brew- ster and drill writer/field coordinator Renee Shano felt, a CMU student, the band maneuvered an out- standing performance de spite the rain which ham pered many spirits. This was truly the most exciting point of the marching season. Once the football season was over, the band fo- cused Its eyes on the con- cert season. The concert season was based on three main performances which the band prepared Itself for. Although a lot of prep oration was given to these performances, much of the Con't. p. 38 Proudly displaying his marching and playing abilities Is Brett Chaffer.
