With a bachelor’s degree in International Office Management, you are ready to kickstart your career: you master three languages (English and two other languages (for example French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Ita-lian and Swedish), Office software is your best friend, and you are able to provide organisations with advice on HR topics, and on project, process and lean management. You demonstrate entrepreneurial skills and pay attention to creative and critical thinking - crucial 21st century skills! Thus, you graduate having a wide variety of jobs within your reach.

During your studies, we make sure you get acquainted with other cultures, not only inside but also outside the classroom. All classes are taught in English by Belgian and international guest lecturers*. Combine this international focus with three internships in international companies and a full final year abroad (study and internship), and you know you will graduate being a different person: more mature, more ‘skilled’, more self-conscious. A profile which is highly appreciated in business life.

In this brochure, we aim to give you a clear view of what you can expect from our University College. More questions, or do you like to come and

meet us? You are very welcome during our open days. Or mail us at [email protected]

*All our lecturers have acquired the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)

WHY IOM?• Our lecturers are experts in their domain and are

• Employability skills eagerly sought after by employers

• Strong emphasis on guidance and tutoring

• For a number of subjects, you follow classes in small groups (max. 36 students)

• Practice, practice and more practice! Three internships and many guest lecturers, company visits, study trips abroad, international-oriented cases etc. That’s how theory comes to life

Kathy Dewitte, Dean Bachelor of International Office Management

Do you have a passion for languages and people? For everything that has to do with the digital world? Do you wish to broaden your horizons and step outside your comfort zone? The world is your playground! Welcome to the English bachelor programme International Office Management!

3

For whom?• Foreign students who wish to enrol for courses taught

in English or who wish to study at Artevelde University College to gain a bachelor’s degree.

• Flemish students who want to immerse themselves in an international environment: you follow courses taught in English, with international students. You learn to pay attention to intercultural communication in no less than three languages (English and two other foreign languages).

• Residents in Belgium who possess a foreign diploma (secondary school, bachelor or master) and who wish to obtain a bachelor’s degree in International Office Management.

In order to enrol, you need to prove you master English at a high professional level (at least CEFR level B2). For more information, consult our website (‘Admission and enrolment procedure’).

Who is the IOM student?• You aim to combine your language skills with a strong

emphasis on daily communication and computational thinking. Meeting other cultures is what you strive for.

• You are an efficient and effective organiser: deadlines are challenging targets and you aim high when it comes to the quality of your daily work. You like the action and like to work with a team towards a clearly defined goal.

• Later, you want to go and work in a multicultural and/or multilingual environment because you feel this enriches you as a person. You believe everyone is no more than six steps away from each other (idea of ‘six degrees of separation’). Therefore, you want the world to enter your classroom and you want to enter the world!

• You are looking for a broad and practice-oriented programme where you learn how to use the latest ICT tools and where many exciting challenges of the 21st century world are presented to you. Which challenge will you take on?

Want to know more?• Come to our open days or one of our trial study sessions

(dates at the back of this leaflet).

• Ask for a free and individual guidance interview at [email protected] 4

Your study trackThe first yearThe first year of the programme consists of a variety of general business courses, such as Law, Management, Marketing and Business Economics, combined with intensive language courses in English (Business English, Intercultural Communication) and two (other) foreign languages (options are for example French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Italian and Swedish). Your ICT skills are perfected and by following News of the World you get a clearer view on global economic, political, social and/or cultural issues.

HOW MANY FACE-TO-FACE INSTRUCTIONS?You will get an average of 20 hours of face-to-face classes or tutoring. On top of that, you will be asked to prepare classes, work on exercises, team tasks, etc. outside the classroom. Altogether you will have to invest about 40 hours a week – a fulltime study programme.

DO I GET TAUGHT IN LARGE GROUPS?Classgroups in the first year vary between 36 and 72 students. From the second year onwards between 18 and 36 students.

DO I STAND ALONE?No! We devote considerable attention to the coaching of our students: the programme starts with a course unit ‘Professional Development’, where skills such as effective time management,

taking minutes, planning and organisation will help you to be successful in higher education. Personal supervision by your study coach will complement this course throughout the first year. In the following two years, we continue to work on your professional development, as to fully prepare you for your professional career in business life.

Studying in GhentAccording to statistics, Ghent has the biggest student population in Flanders, but we simply reckon that Ghent is the coolest city in the world!

Culture, going out or sports: there are opportunities, whether you are in student accommodation or commuting daily. Ghent is easy to reach by train, tram and bus. On top of that, it’s a great city for cycling.

The nice thing about Ghent is that it is much more than a university town. Artevelde’s city is buzzing throughout the year. There are not only the legendary Ghent Parties - people can also spend every Thursday evening in the Overpoortstraat, into the wee small hours. And we haven’t even mentioned the many city parks, museums, restau-rants, pubs, streets and squares yet ...

Student accommodation or not?Around the city you can find various kinds of student rooms, from large to small and from budget models to places that are a bit more pricey.
