2012

Our Year in Review

Babana has had another amazing year thanks to the support of all of our members and also the local com-munity. We have been able to achieve some amazing outcomes and the rest of this edition will be a pictorial containing the work we have done.

As many know we have had some issues including the Government suspending our IEP, but we are resili-ent and will continue to work for our people. (contact us if you want to help in our push for this to be unfro-zen—success@babana.org.au)

Plans for the New Year

The Board have already begun plan-ning on our events for 2013.

We seek volunteers to assist in the planning and running of these events so please keep your eyes out for information in the coming months.

Please note that Babana office will be closed in January 2013.

Babana Men’s Group HOLIDAY NEWSLETTER

With Christmas approaching fast, we welcome you to the Christmas edition newsletter. I would like to thank each and every one of our supporters for making 2012 such an amazing year.

I would like to thank personally the other members of the management committee that keeps our Men’s Group going – Pastor Ray Minniecon, Jeremy Heathcote and David Pross. It has been a privilege working alongside these high-ly dedicated members of our group.

Each of you who have supported our group should be proud of yourselves; we value each and every one of our members and community that have contributed to our meetings and our events.

I look forward to 2013 being a year where we can once again continue to provide service to Redfern and the sur-rounding areas.

Coloured Digger Anzac Event

Babana was once again involved in the planning and running of the Anzac Event in Redfern. This year we honoured the Vietnam Veterans .

Babana Men’s Group Meetings

In 2012 we took a lot of our meetings to vari-ous locations which included Clarke Island, the University of New South Wales and

Marramarra National Park

.

Closing the Gap Day was one of the big events on the calendar of the group this year and we had quite a lot of support from our community members,

Official Openings

Babana were invited to be a part of two major openings in 2012.

Nura Gili (UNSW) was officially opened by the Governor of NSW and the Dei Corp Building was opened by the Premier.

Chairman Mark Spinks was a guest speakder at the Dei Corp event and Babana was mentioned in the speeches by Prof Nakata and Gov-ernor Bashir.

Jawun Events

Our men’s group was once again involved in the Jawun program which connects Corporates to Com-munity organisations. Sonny Ed-wards, Jeremy Heathcote and Mark Spinks were on the front cover of the KPMG RAP and Lord Hastings visited the Babana shed to meet with Pastor Ray and Jeremy Heath-cote .

Supporting our Community

Babana assisted Darlington

school with registration of

their bus and also POWH with

Naidoc fundraiser.

Mark Spinks was also special

guest at UNSW NAIDOC

which was the first in many

years at the Kensington Cam-

pus

Thanks to a donation from

anonymous benefactor Babana

was able to get our own bus.

One of the first things that we

did was to organise a cultural

trip to Forster.

Babana had a visit from a

number of men from the

Northern Territory. We ar-

ranged for one of our walks to

be moved instead to a trip on

the Mari Nawi

Our group helped at the

Legends of League Employ-

ment Expo

Once again we helped to organ-

ise Carers Week at Martin Place

in the CBD

Babana with the support of New Horizons and

NSW Police held a white ribbon Family Violence

event on Goat Island

To end the Year Babana and

Tribal Warrior held a com-

bined Christmas Party which

was enjoyed by all
