New legal legislation

Over recent years a number of children havedied from strangulation on blind operatingcords. As a result of this the CEN (EuropeanCommittee for Standardisation) has revised thechild safety standard for internal blinds – EN 13120. This standard is now accompanied

by two new standards: EN 16433 & EN 16434.

If a blind has a hazardous loop and has beinstalled where children are likely to be presentthen child safety compliance is necessary. The blinds will have to be fitted with either anintegral or non-integral safety device.

We believe this applies to all public buildingsand the publicly accessible areas ofcommercial buildings, offices and factories.

If children under the age of 42 months are present or have access to yourpremises, blinds must be compliant with the new child safety legal requirements.

When it comes to cleaning your vertical louvre

fabrics, traditional "dust and tidy" methods from

conventional contract cleaners is not enough. Most

fabrics are either cotton, linen, draylon, polyester

and fibreglass. Ultrasonic cleaning can be too

aggressive and can break down the surface

composition of the fabric (especially if there is a

solar backing applied).

At our service depot, thousands of vertical fabrics

are expertly cleaned in a quick turnaround. We

gently machine wash fabrics through an automatic

classical cleaning program that includes

Motorised or manual blinds at great heightsthat are left unchecked year in and year out area potential risk. Its important to get theminspected and tested by a window blindinstaller.

Our qualified technicians are trained to work atheights and are either IPAF or PASMA qualifiedto do so. Before we start any projects, we lookto identify the hazards and then reduce them.We then send a risk assessment and methodstatement.

Normally fitted in skylights, standardoperation is by an adjustable handle controlledeither by hand or wand, depending on the typeof window.
