BEEN A FIRM FAVOURITE IN THE LOCAL SPORTING CALENDAR SINCE THE EARLY

1950s AND, OVER THE YEARS, HAS GROWN TO ATTRACT COMPETITORS

FROM AROUND THE WORLD.

The sport has changed through the years and we have moved with the times to meet the needs of modern golfers. We have

invested £3.5million in our clubhouses at Belleisle, Troon and Girvan, to deliver first-class facilities which perfectly

complement the quality of our golf courses.

For this year’s festival we are introducing new competitions to the showcase Ayr Golf Week to help grow our momentum

and appeal to the broadest possible range of golfers. The new Robert Burns Trophy is open to people with higher

handicaps and complements the established Tam o’Shanter and Handyside tournaments, while the new Gents

Greensomes widens the field further still by providing an additional competition format in this year’s event.

To mark the Scottish Government’s Year of Young People 2018, and to help promote golf to a new generation, we have also introduced two new competitions. The Junior Stableford

and the Junior Open are open to young people looking to get a taste of competitive golf on our fantastic golf courses. The provision of these new competitions for young people illustrates our commitment to foster and develop up and

coming talent.

We remain committed to working with our partners and communities to make life better in South Ayrshire and

the 2018 Golf Festival plays an important role in actively promoting the area as a must go-to destination as well as championing healthy lifestyles. We look forward to welcoming this year’s competitors to enjoy challenging rounds against the backdrop of some of Scotland’s most

spectacular natural scenery.

Players will register their handicap, including National Registration Number, on the Monday and this will dictate which trophy they enter:

Tam O’Shanter Trophy: 0-8 Handicap

Handyside Trophy: 9-18 Handicap

NEW Robert Burns Trophy: 19-28 Handicap

The Matchplay knock-out rounds will be played over Belleisle on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (participation is optional).

Additional Rules:

1. The competition is open to amateur golfers who are members of recognised golf clubs, and will be played as per the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, but subject to the local rules of Belleisle and Seafield Golf Courses.

2. 32 Golfers will qualify from each category, and will enter into the Matchplay knock-out phases. No competitor will be eligible to win more than one prize. In the event of a tie after 36 holes of strokeplay, the final qualifier will be decided on the inward half then the last 6, 3 and so on from the 2nd Qualifying Round.

3. Handicaps will be altered after each Qualifying Round.

4. Trophies remain the property of Golf South Ayrshire.

While in the region why not pay a visit to Dalmilling Golf Course? Although not appearing in the events, this 18 hole course offers splendid

views over the Carrick Hills and provides an ideal warm up before any tournament.
