RECORD NUMBER OF TOP A LEVEL GRADES AT
EASTBURY COMMUNITY SCHOOL
EASTBURY COMMUNITY SCHOOL CELEBRATES ANOTHER SET OF EXCELLENT A LEVEL RESULTS WITH 99% PASS RATE
Eastbury Community School is delighted to announce another successful year for Sixth Form students who have once again produced the A level and BTEC results which will enable them to go on to an outstanding range of Universities, and Higher Level & Degree Apprenticeships. Almost half of all grades achieved at A Level were at A* to B (44%) and 1 in 6 (14%) were A*/A grades. Staff and students have been working hard and these results come at the end of a very impressive year in which the school was shortlisted for two prestigious Times Educational Supplement awards in Mathematics and Science.
Many Eastbury students have received offers from Russell group universities this year. Top Universities are now getting ready to welcome students from Eastbury including the London School of Economics, Kings College London, University College London, Queen Mary’s, Manchester, Brunel, and Reading to study a range of exciting subjects (a sample of students and their courses can be found at the end of this press release). Eastbury is also extremely pleased that an increasing number of students will be progressing to Higher Level and Degree Apprenticeships, including Kirsty Milne who secured a highly competitive Engineering Apprenticeship through the University of Manchester.
Executive Head teacher, Mr. David Dickson
‘It is wonderful to hear so many success stories about students at Eastbury and across the borough. It is clear confirmation that the vast majority of young people have extremely high aspirations. I am absolutely delighted for all those who have worked hard to secure the grades needed for their chosen University, Higher Level and Degree Apprenticeships, or job. All, whatever their pathway, have made an excellent start to their careers. I am very proud of all the students and staff who have worked hard in this more challenging year for A-level exams; and I would like to thank them alongside our supportive parents, governors and local authority. It is a privilege to work with such a great staff team and enthusiastic students’
Students are very proud about their achievements
Many students have achieved excellent results, in a year in which A-level exams became more challenging, but particular mention should go to the following students who have secured places at excellent universities and apprenticeships.
Zeeshan Ashraf who will be progressing to the London School of Economics to study Mathematics

Ibrahim Khan who will be progressing to King’s College to study Global Health and Medicine

GCSE SUCCESS AT EASTBURY
COMMUNITY SCHOOL
Executive Head teacher, Mr. David Dickson said,
“I am extremely pleased that so many students at Eastbury and across the borough have achieved success. Our aspirational students and staff have risen to the challenges of the new harder exams in 2017, and the new grading systems in English and Mathematics. This is the first year of the new more challenging exams and grading system, therefore we cannot make comparisons with previous years. We are extremely pleased with the success of our students in this demanding year. 66% of our students achieved the standard pass grade 4, or better, in both English and Mathematics. More than 1 in ten (13%) of our students achieved the top grades in both English and Mathematics, with 8 achieving the new grade 9 (higher than the old A*) in Mathematics, and 6 in English Language. Shay Awoyemi, our Head boy achieved grade 9 in both English and Mathematics.
Firstly, I would like to congratulate the students who have been studying hard for the last 2 years to prepare themselves for the new, ‘O’ Level style, linear exams. I would like to thank all the staff for their hard work, professionalism and the many hours they have put in to ensure all our students are fully prepared for the rigors of the new tougher exams. I would also like to thank our caring families, Governors and Local Authority who have provided support and encouragement. It is a privilege to work with such a dedicated staff team and enthusiastic students”.
Eastbury is extremely proud of the achievements of all students. The GCSE results and progress data clearly demonstrates that students of all abilities have worked hard and made excellent progress. Some of our students have faced significant personal challenges, overcome them, and made superb progress.
Our students are now progressing to our
excellent sixth form to study A Levels, or local colleges to study more vocational courses. Staff and students have been working hard and these results come at the end of a very impressive year in which the school was shortlisted for two prestigious Times Educational Supplement awards in Mathematics and Science.
Strong performing departments include Biology (40% A*/A & 87% A*-C); Chemistry (48% A*/A & 91% A*-C); Physics (48% A*/A & 94% A*-C); English (17% Top grades & 78% Grade 4+; Mathematics (22% Top grades & 72% Grade 4+); English (20% Top grades & 71% Grade 4+); French (25% A*/A & 63% A*-C); Art (12% A*/A & 90% A*-C).
Eastbury is proud that the vast majority of students also studying vocational courses such as Hospitality and Catering, and Sport; achieved grades A*-C with many getting the top A*/A grade.
It is very difficult to get the top grades under the new system; the school is therefore especially pleased with the following students who achieved top grades in all of their GCSEs:

Dear Parents/Carers
RE: Parent View
As part of Eastbury School’s self-evaluation
process, we very much value working in
partnership with parents and carers to help us
continually enhance the quality of the
education that we provide to our students.
Parent View is an on-line questionnaire and the
main source for gathering parents’ and carers’
views about Eastbury School when it is
inspected by OFSTED.
Inspectors weigh the views of parents and
carers alongside first-hand evidence gathered
during an inspection when coming to a view
about the overall effectiveness of the school.
The link to setting up a login to review Eastbury
School can be found at:
www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk
You will be required to enter an email address
and a password before completing the
questionnaire to ensure the security of the
website. If you fill in the questionnaire for
Eastbury School more than once using the
same email address in the same academic
year, your previous entry will be overwritten.
All entries to Parent View are anonymous and
the school will not have access to any
information that can be used to identify a
respondent. If there are parents/carers who
hold different views about the school, each
person is able to complete the questionnaire
but must use a different email address.
Parent View asks parents and carers to
give their views on twelve aspects of
your child’s experience at Eastbury
School ranging from the quality of
teaching, to how well the school deals
with bullying and poor behaviour. You
are able to give your views using a four
point scale, from strongly agree to
strongly disagree.
The results of questionnaires that have
been completed are published in real
time and are available to Eastbury
School, other parents/carers and the
general public. At the end of the academic
year, the results for Eastbury School will be
frozen and a new set of results will begin. This
allows us to make comparisons between the
results from one year to another.
I very much appreciate and value the time that
you give up to feedback your views about
Eastbury School through the completion of the
questionnaire on Parent View and our other
questionnaires that we send to you. If you have
any further questions or concerns about the
process, please do not hesitate to contact
Stavey Primus on 020 8507 4528 who will be able
to help you.
If you have a day-to-day concern can you
contact your child’s form tutor or Head of Year
in the first instance, if the matter is not resolved
please then contact your child’s Senior link for
the Year group
In the rare event that your concern is not
resolved can you then contact Mrs Sharon
Collins (The school’s complaint officer for the
secondary) or Miss Wendy Jenkins (Head of the
Primary Phase) who will support you and
investigate, and make the Executive Head
Teacher Mr David Dickson aware.
I would like to thank you for all of your support in
helping the school to provide a first rate
education.
Yours sincerely
David Dickson - Executive Headteacher
