The world-famous Frankfurt Christmas Market & Craft Fair is the centrepiece of Birmingham’s Christmas events calendar. The largest outdoor Christmas market in the UK, it is perfect for tasting authentic German foods and for grabbing early Christmas presents for your friends and loved ones! Art lovers can check out the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, located right behind the fair (free admission). For those who want a little more excitement on the trip, Teamworks Karting Birmingham is the place for you (assuming you are above 140cm in height)! Gas Street Basin was once the centre of a thriving transport network and today, it is where tradition meets modern living. Cafes, restaurants and bars dot both sides of the tranquil canal and it is itself a gateway to other attractions in Birmingham, like the Ikon Gallery, an internationally-acclaimed English gallery which houses contemporary English art. Admission is absolutely free and new exhibitions rotate in all the time. The Winterbourne House and Garden holds over 6000 plant species and exquisite antiques, and even has a tearoom. It is located in the University of Birmingham (where you can go to visit your friends), and is a perfect example of Edwardian architecture. (£5 – “Christmas at Winterbourne” on 6 Dec, traditional Edwardian Christmas celebrations)

St. Martin in the Bull Ring is the original parish church of Birmingham located in the heart of the city. It is open to visitors from 10am onwards and was built in the gothic Victorian style. It overlooks the considerably more modern Bullring Shopping Centre and Selfridges, the largest shopping haven in Birmingham where you can shop to your heart’s content!
