Introduction

Autonomous organizations play a very important role in society. Social development

has ranked high on the priority list of Government programmes since Independence,

and autonomous organizations have been important partners in dealing with social

problems that exist at the community level. Autonomous organizations have done

pioneering work in many areas, rendered consultancy services, highlighted many new

social problems, undertaken advocacy, provided training to functionaries of voluntary

organizations and other stakeholders prepared training and teaching material and

syllabi, and evaluated the functioning of many Government programmes for the

under privileged.

A Project was undertaken by Documentation Centre for Women and Child

(DCWC), NIPCCD to bring out Directories of Organizations undertaking research

and building the capacity of organizations by providing research and training support.

These institution are working in many areas, namely health; nutrition; child welfare;

social welfare; women welfare; children at risk, including street children, adoption

and child labour; social defence, including trafficking; human development and

education; scheduled castes/ scheduled tribes and rural development.

This document covers autonomous organizations working for various

vulnerable groups such as women in distress, children in need of care and protection,

women and child labour, differently abled, etc. It also covers organizations working

in the areas of health, nutrition and rural development. For the convenience of users,

organizations in the Directory have been arranged alphabetically state-wise.

This Directory gives detailed information about organizations and their

activities, including postal address, telephone, fax, website, e-mail address, and key

words indicating their areas of work and activities.

It has been possible to bring out this document due to the extensive

cooperation extended by organizations that have shared the relevant information with

us. Without their support it would not have been possible to bring out this

compilation.

It is hoped that this document would be useful to all stakeholders working for

the empowerment of vulnerable sections of society.
