Since introducing the modern automated light more than thirty years ago, Philips Vari-Lite has produced the most innovative spot and wash luminaires available. In fact, we develop luminaires so powerful, they provide more than just light. They’ve become a way to express your imagination; a way to make your vision a reality.

We draw from our years of experience to produce technologically advanced, eco-friendly and high performance tools for expressing your creativity, and it is our “technical creative soul” that has kept Philips Vari-Lite at the forefront of the automated lighting industry since 1981. The company was founded on the belief that creative engineering can join with creative lighting to bring a new dimension to any performance or presentation.

That notion first took root in the late ‘70s when engineers developed a color changing light fixture using dichroic filters and later added two motors to make the light move as well. Genesis wowed the world with the first Vari-Lite Series 100 system consisting of 50 VL1 luminaires on the opening night of their “Abacab” tour on September 25, 1981, and it was also the “Genesis” of Vari-Lite the company.

Inspired by the magic of moving light and changing color, Vari-Lite set about creating complete lighting systems that add both subtle nuances and brilliant spectacles to any event. In November 2002, Vari-Lite was purchased by the Genlyte Thomas Group LLC, and in November 2007, Royal Philips Electronics purchased the Genlyte Group, along with Vari-Lite, creating Philips Vari-Lite.

Today, Philips Vari-Lite continues to lead the world in automated lighting technology while drawing upon the vast resources of Royal Philips Electronics to develop even more pioneering products with an unrivaled reputation. Lighting designers across the globe use Vari-Lite automated luminaires in concert touring, theatre, television, motion pictures, corporate shows, cruise ships and advertising for one distinct reason ...

VL4000 BeamWashVL4000 Spot

The VL4000 BeamWash and VL4000 Spot are the latest generation of Vari-Lite luminaires designed to provide designers, rental companies, venues and productions with a complement of fixtures offering unlimited design possibilities.

Without the need to change lenses, the VL4000 BeamWash combines stunning wash capabilities with intense beam functionality and the ability to produce a powerful collimated shaft of light. Producing 43,000 lumens in Standard mode (35,000 Studio mode), the VL4000 BeamWash uses a Philips 1200W lamp to provide incredible point-of-source imagery through its 10 inch front lens.

When used in Wash mode, the luminaire provides a 10 to 60 degree zoom range. By simply adjusting a DMX value, the VL4000 BeamWash can shift to an intense Beam luminaire with an amazing 4 to 40 degree beam angle, or a Shaft fixture for a powerful, collimated ray of light where the 4 degree beam angle can be further reduced to near zero.

Every aspect of the VL4000 Spot luminaire has been designed with performance in mind using a Philips 1200W lamp to produce 33,000 lumens in Standard mode (25,000 Studio mode) and high resolution optics to ensure remarkablecenter-to-edge focusing with a 5:1 zoom that covers an amazing 9 to 47 degrees without sacrificing output or clarity.

The VL4000 Spot also features dual rotating gobo wheels, dual animation wheels, the chromatically tuned Dichro*Fusion effect, a four-blade shutter system and mechanical iris. But if that wasn’t enough, an independent prism with divergence control and variable frost are also implemented into the luminaire.

The VL3015, VL3015LT, and the VL3515 Spot luminaires provide the increased output of a 1500W lamp in fixtures that offer the same features as the wildly popular VL3000 Spot luminaire.

All using a highly reliable 1500W double-ended short arc lamp, the VL3015 and VL3515 Spot luminaires feature a 6:1 zoom optics system, while the VL3015LT Spot offers an incredible 10:1 zoom range which is demanded for long throw applications.

Two reflectors are standard on both the VL3015 and VL3515 luminaires allowing users to choose between either a peaked or flat field beam. In the peaked beam, the fixture provides 27,000 lumens of output, and in the flat field beam, an output of 22,000 lumens is achieved. Reflectors are easily changed, and whichever one is not chosen rides securely inside the luminaire on a specially designed mount. Plus, each luminaire offers CYM color mixing, variable CTO color temperature correction, a six-position color wheel, and an ultra-fast strobe mechanism. The VL3515 luminaire has an added feature of a four-blade shutter mechanism that allows the blades to be operated independently or in unison on two planes for a clear and crisp image.

Producing over 42,000 lumens of output, the VL3015LT Spot also offers CYM color mixing and variable CTO color temperature correction, but it houses two five-position color wheels, three gobo/effects wheels, a beam size iris, separate dimmer, and an ultra-fast strobe mechanism. The unit contains an independent rotating and indexing 3-facet prism as well as an independent variable frost glass.

All the luminaires are complete with a palette of gobos, effects and colors, while custom gobos, effects and colors are also available. Additionally, the fixtures are similarly sized in comparison to all other Series 3000 products providing a consistent hang configuration and appearance, no matter which luminaire is required.

With an output that exceeds 70,000 lumens, as well as new options for color and beam control, the VL3500 Wash luminaire is the standard by which all wash lights are measured. The VL3500 Wash luminaire features internal zoomable beam optics with either Fresnel or Buxom options, an interchangeable front lens system, and an aperture wheel. The fixture provides CYM color mixing, variable CTO color temperature correction, dual five-position color wheels, a separate dimmer, and an independent dual blade strobe mechanism. In conjunction with its zoomable optics system, Vari-Lite introduces the VARI*BRITE mode. From almost any zoom position, this mode can be engaged to offer a tight column of remarkably intense light making the VL3500 the most versatile wash luminaire on the market.

VL3500 Wash FX luminaire:This model allows users to harness the tremendous intensity of the luminaire to project effects patterns. The aperture wheel from the VL3500 Wash is replaced with a pattern wheel that provides four rotatable and indexable positions in addition to open. When used in conjunction with the Plano Convex–ULTRA Clear front lens, the fixture boldly projects effects. The luminaire comes with four standard patterns which are interchangeable. Custom patterns may be installed by the user.
