•CTE Career Counselor• A position that does not currently exist • Assist students in discovering and

securing the educational path to their career choice.

This is the main reason for completing my Career Counseling Certificate. There is a growing need for a CTE related counselor to work in the Area Technology Centers to help meet the Career Readiness component that our Districts are working towards. There is also great support from the Districts as well. I truly believe that CTE is heading in this direction and I want to be prepared.

In addition I will be better prepared to help them set and reach career goals.

DEVELOPMENTAL CAREER COUNSELING

I am looking forward to learning the objectives of this class. I feel that I am already doing Career Counseling……. But am I doing it right? Are my students getting the most of what I have to offer?

I hope that by the end of this course I will better understand the skills needed or how to effectively use the skills I have to be effective and successful in the area of Career Counseling.

LEADERSHIP STYLE ASSESSMENTI chose this assessment as I felt it would be extremely relevant in

all aspects of my life. My scores:

35 on task-related behaviors 36 on people-related behaviors

this charts as GuidingI believe this was an accurate measurement and I can relate the results

to the many activities that I am involved in. It also relates nicely to my career goals as I will be “guiding” students toward their own career goals.

1. I truly do see that in my classroom I combine the giving of instructions with a chance to ponder and react to questioning techniques.

2. I also believe strongly that a person should have an active role in the learning process so contribution is vital

3. The role of positive reinforcement in my classroom and when working with students in the SkillsUSA organization is evident as well as practices that allow not only myself but the students to monitor progress as we work toward goals.

Page 15: Autobiography

INDEX OF LEARNING STYLESI felt that this would be a good assessment for me so that I

understand my own learning styles. As I work with individuals it is important that I am aware of my preferences while keeping in mind others. This assessment allows me to see where I may be weak in those areas that are not in my personal preference. Understanding this will allow me to be cautious when dealing with individuals of different preference.

My Scores: Active/Reflective = moderate Active

Let me do it or tell you about it, jump right in and try it or give me a group to do it with

Sensing/Intuitive = moderate Sensing Give me facts or steps and let me apply it in a lab setting and see its practical

application Visual/Verbal = moderate Visual

Show me don’t just tell me or have me read it Sequential/Global = balanced Sequential and Global with Sequential

being a bit stronger I like to follow a logical order most of the time but when warranted I can see an

activity through looking for the bigger picture at the end

PERSONALITY MOSAIC ASSESSMENT

This assessment was interesting to me. I was curious to see how my results would line up with my career choices. The results were right on target with every job I have ever had or dreamed of having. I also feel that these traits have and will continue to aid in my success.

My Scores: Social (12)

This was not a surprise. I am one of the most social people you will ever meet. I feel this trait in necessary to be good in the job roles I desire to fill.

Enterprising Influence, persuade and lead are all traits that I need as a school

teacher and more specifically as a Career Counselor. Conventional

Again a trait that will be necessary as I work with students regarding Career choices. I will need to know job outlooks, education requirements, statistics and so forth to be able to completely assist students in making decisions.
