SOIL• Murray darling basin and S.E
coastal plains are the only fertile land regions of Australia
• In tropical grassland the soil is of poor quality
• In the desert region soil is almost absent
WATER• Not well endowed in water
resources
• Annual rainfall is low in most o the region
• Only tropical region in north , E-highlands , S.E and SW coast and Tasmania receives moderate to high rainfall
• Murray darling basin is the largest river basin in Australia.• It is used for irrigation and
hydroelectricity.
• It has many lakes such as :• Coastal lake – L. Alexandria• Freshwater- L. George• Volcanic- L. blue • Man made – Blowering Dam
FOREST• Very little forest cover
• Tropical forest are found in N & N.E• Temperate – E- Highlands
AGRICULTURE• Large part of Australia are desert only
4% of area are under cultivation .
• Main agriculture region are Murray darling basin and Mediterranean region.
• Farms are very large & highly mechanised
