Before starting the pump read Pump Operators manual.

Please note that the pump operator’s manual does not include detailed engine data. Check the engine manual, supplied with the product, for further information.

Never use these pumps for pumping flammable liquids such as petrol. AN EXPLOSION & SERIOUS INJURY

may result if this waring is ignored.

If pumping corrosive or hazardous materials, extreme caution should be used. Provide safety guards, ventilation and drains to protect people and property in case of a leak in the pump. Follow handling instructions from the manufacturers

of the liquid.

Engine powered pumps

No oil is supplied with the engine. Oil must be added in accordance with the engine manufacturer’s instructions. (Relevant to four stroke engines only).

Do not use the pump in an enclosed area, engine exhaust could build up and cause asphyxiation.

Do not refuel engine while operating. Shut engine down and allow to cool before refueling.

Always refuel in a well ventilated area, do not smoke or allow flames or sparks in the refueling area or where gasoline is stored.

Do not over fill the fuel tank, as spilled fuel can ignite if it comes into contact with hot engine parts or sparks. After refueling, make sure tank cap is closed properly and is secure.

Some engine components will get hot during operation. Do not touch engine components while engine is running or immediately after operation. For details check engine operator’s manual.

All versions

Do not use the pump in a gaseous or hazardous environment or near combustible material.

Any person operating the pump and its power unit should be fully aware of tits safe operation before starting

the unit.

Ensure pump is on secure footing so that it can not move

or tip over.

Before carrying out maintenance on the pump, endure that the power has

been disconnected

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Aussie Smart Pump… Owners Manual 7

Australian Pump Industries Oct 2018

Pump must be primed before starting. Fill pump body with liquid. Pump must not be allowed to run without liquid passing through the casing.

DO NOT run pump either dry or with insufficient water supply. Pump supply or delivery lines must not be shut off.

Familiarise yourself with the pump’s controls with emphasis on how to stop the pump quickly.

Ensure that the power unit, pump, wiring and piping installations are suitable for the liquid being pumps. Comply with all applicable codes and regulations.

Do not use torches or apply fire or flames to the pumps for any reason.

This pump must not be subjected to more that 65 psi for polyester pumps, 55 psi for polypropylene pumps.

Do not …

Over speed the engine

Use quick closing valves in suction or discharge line or any other device that can cause hydraulic shock.

Use high positive suction pressures which would cause the total system pressure to 65 psi or above (55 psi for polypropylene pumps)

Protect your pump from pressure spikes by installing a by-pass or safety valve if sudden shut off of the water flow is likely to occur.

Drain pump if there is a chance of the liquid freezing inside the pump body or connecting pipework.

Do not pump liquids with specific gravities exceeding the following values.

Do not over tighten the drain or filler plugs. Hand tighten only. Excessive force may damage the threads or the pump body. Do not use metal plugs.

Use at least one foot of flexible hose to make plumbing connections to the pump body. Rigid piping may put stresses on the pump causing damage. If rigid piping must be used, properly support it so as to eliminate stresses to the pump.

Max specific gravity at 3450 rpm

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Aussie Smart Pump… Owners Manual 8

Australian Pump Industries Oct 2018

Do not tighten inlet & discharge fitting more than one turn beyond hand tight. Excessive force will damage the fitting. Use Teflon sealing tape on all threaded fittings.

Long suction and discharge hoses or pipes must be supported so the weight of the hoses or pipes filled with liquid do

Use only genuine replacement

parts.

Always fill the pump body with the liquid to be pumped before starting the pump. It is not necessary to drain the pump body after use, unless there is danger of freezing, settling of solids or crystallisation.

Do not restrict the flow through the pump. A starved suction line can cause heat to build up. If it is necessary to restrict flow through the pump for longer than five minutes install a discharge bypass line to keep the liquid below maximum operating temperatures.

Do not subject pump to extreme conditions of acidity or basicity. Consult factory for specific recommendations concerning chemicals and temperature.

DO NOT OPEN THE PUMP

WHEN OPERATING!

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Aussie Smart Pump… Owners Manual 9

Australian Pump Industries Oct 2018

Inspect unit for shipping damage immediately upon receipt and before signing for merchandise. If any visible damage exists, note damage on shipping documents before signing. Also notify you dealer immediately of any damage

to the shipment.

Engine Drive Pumps

Consult engine manual included with pump.

Before starting, fill crankcase with oil as specified by the engine manufacturer.

Fill fuel tank with clean, fresh, fuel as specified in engine manual.

Electric Motor Pumps

Ensure the power suppled to the electric motor matches the motor specification plate.

Ensure the motor rotation is correct. The pump impeller should rotate counterclockwise, looking from the suction inlet side. For single phase motors consult the wiring diagram for anticlockwise rotation. Three phase motor rotation may be reversed by interchanging any two of the three power leads.

Make sure that wiring for the electric motor compiles with all existing codes.

Hydraulic Drive Pumps

Consult the separate instruction sheet supplied with each hydraulic powered unit.

Power Requirements

NOTE: for liquids having specific gravities greater than 1.0, increase the rated horsepower (from catalogue) by a factor equal to the specific gravity of the liquid being pumped. (E.G. Catalogue HP x Specific gravity = actual HP required)

PUMP INSTALLATION

When installing an Aussie self priming pump always remember that the closer the pump is placed to the source of supply the better the performance will be.

To ensure maximum capacity select a site that will permit the shortest and most direct suction piping and smallest vertical lift.

Set the pump on firm and level foundations.

Connecting the Suction Hose

Use commercially available hose, hose connector and hose bands. The suction hose must be of reinforced non collapsible construction.

PUMP PREPARATION

Aussie Smart Pump… Owners Manual 10

Australian Pump Industries Oct 2018

Suction hose length should not be longer than necessary as the longer the suction hose, the less delivery performance of the pump.

Self priming time is also proportional to suction hose length!

A strainer should always be used on the end of the suction hose to keep solids out of the pump.

If the strainer is likely to clog with dirt or debris, do one of the following…

1. Prepare a bed of rocks on which to rest the strainer.

2. Tie strainer so that it stays off the bottom of the pit.

3. Tie the strainer inside a basket or pail.

Check carefully to make sure there

are no air leaks in the suction line.

Connecting the Discharge Hose

Use a commercially available hose, hose connector and hose bands.

A large diameter hose is most efficient. Long, small diameter hoses will increase friction loss and reduce pump performance and adversely affect performance.

Check carefully to make sure there

are no leaks in the discharge line.

PUMP PREPARATION

Aussie Smart Pump… Owners Manual 11

Australian Pump Industries Oct 2018

PUMP OPERATION

Priming

Remove the priming cap at the top of the delivery port. Fill pump body with water and refit priming cap tightly.

Open gate valve on delivery line if fitted.

Never attempt to operate pump without priming first. Extended dry operation will destroy pump seal.

If unit has been operated dry, stop the engine immediately, allow the pump to cool before adding priming liquid.

Hydraulic Shock

If the water flow is suddenly terminated by closing a valve, without stopping the pump first, it can cause hydraulic shock. This can travel back to the pump causing serious damage. To prevent pump damage install a by-pass or safety valve.

Handy service hints

1. To maximize pump life, drain pump after use and flush out with clean, fresh water.

2. Store pump in a dry, safe location when not in use.

3. If storing for long periods, drain fuel from engine and tank.

4. If there is a risk of freezing drain the pump body

5. Before pumping chemicals check suitability of seals. For oil based liquids including diesel fuel, select BUNA elastomer option. For most ag. chem. liquids select EPDM elastomers. Viton elastomers are also available for corrosive applications. For further information regarding chemical compatibility contact your Aussie dealer.

6. Pumping water containing solids will prematurely wear pump components, and may impact warranty.

7. Ensure that the correct size strainer is installed on the suction hose at all times.
