MUSIC AUDITION INFORMATION FOR THE 2020-2021 ACADEMIC YEARThe Augusta University Department of Music offers music performance scholarships to qualified freshmen and transfer students who demonstrate a high level of achievement in performance and who plan to be music majors. They are renewable for up to four years for music majors who maintain a 2.5 GPA. All scholarships are awarded through competitive auditions that will be held as listed in the schedule on the application form. Scholarships are available in the following performance areas: voice, keyboard instruments (piano, organ), woodwind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone), brass instruments (trumpet, trombone, horn, euphonium, tuba), and strings (violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, guitar).

APPLICATION PROCEDURESTo apply for a music scholarship and admission into the music program:• Visit our website at www.augusta.edu/pamplin/music/ and click on "Auditions."• If you are unable to attend one of our Music Audition Days, please contact the Department of Music at

706-737-1453 to request a special time and date. Also, in lieu of an on-campus audition, you may uploadan audio file of your audition by clicking on the Music Audition Submission Form tab.

• Include a letter of recommendation from a band or choral director or from a private music teacher who is familiar with your performance skills and musical ability. • Submit an application to Augusta University (available online at augusta.edu/admissions/apply.php). The audition committee may make a scholarship offer before you apply to Augusta University, but your acceptance will be valid only with your admission to Augusta University.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTSEach auditionee should prepare at least two selections of contrasting style. Vocalists should include at least one selection in a foreign language. Auditions may contain sightreading, scales, and sightsinging. All auditionees are encouraged to perform with an accompanist (if applicable). The department can sometimes supply an accompanist for vocal auditions. If you wish to request this, please indicate that on the audition form.

AUGUSTA UNIVERSITYAs a unit of the University System of Georgia, Augusta University is the primary public institution of higher learning in the state’s second largest city. While it shares the technological and innovative resources of the University System, it maintains the historical roots that make the learning experience as unique as the campus itself. THE DEPARTMENT OF MUSICThe Music Department is a professional unit which regards music as both an art and a discipline. It recognizes the artistic values of creativity, experimentation, and musical discrimination, as well as the disciplinary attributes of scholarship, independent and critical thinking, self-motivation, skill development, and dedication. Two undergraduate degrees are offered. The Bachelor of Music degree (BM) is awarded with a major in either performance, jazz studies, or music education. The Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in music provides the opportunity to study music in some depth while still allowing time for study in other academic areas. The music unit is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

TUITION AGREEMENTSResidents of Aiken and Edgefield counties in South Carolina and active duty military personnel stationed in Georgia (their spouses and dependents, included) are eligible for Georgia in-state tuition rates.
