Sunday School Preparation and Training Conferences This year we will be studying the new book Great Expectations. What we expect will have a bearing on what actually happens in our churches. As the new church year approaches, it is time to start thinking

about plans for Sunday School growth, and it’s also a great time for a training update. Our association will offer two training opportunities this fall. The same material will be covered at each location. There will be conferences for all age group workers as well as pastors and general officers. Look for the details on the front page of this issue of the Clarion.

Adiestrados para la Excelencia The eleventh annual Hispanic training event will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010. Once again we will meet at Mag-

nolia Avenue Baptist Church, Riverside. Last year 435 attended this outstanding event. Our keynote speaker this year will

be Dr. Fermín Whittaker. A publicity packet has been mailed to all of our Hispanic churches. If you need one just give us a call, or check out the web site www.adiestradosparalaexcelencia.org where among other things, you can register online.

Transformed Conference If you’re tired of being lukewarm, if you’d like to rekindle your love for the Lord, here is a great opportunity to get on fire for God. If you have a hunger to serve God with a new, revived heart, you won’t want to miss this life-changing event.

The Transformed Conference, featuring Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron, will be on Saturday, November 13 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland. It will be from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The event is free but you must register on line. Visit the web site www.livingwaters.com and click on the window for The Transformed Conference. Online registration will open on October 1, 2010. Please note that there is only room for the first 2,500 people.

As we continue in this summer season it is the prayer of our staff that all is well in your churches and ministries. We continue to

hear of wonderful reports from our churches as they engage in their ministries. At the same time due to the continued economic

stress and other reasons, some are going through the most challenging times that they have ever faced. In this article I would like

to tell you of a couple of changes in regards to our annual meeting and executive board. First of all, we will need to fill some

openings on our executive board at our annual meeting. If you would like to recommend or nominate someone please contact the

office or email me at [email protected] with their name. The board meets three times a year and is charged with overseeing the

association’s ministries. The second involves our annual meeting. We are going to try something complexly different this year,

similar to what churches in the past have called a ministry fair. One of the things we would like to accomplish is to encourage our

churches who have had success with a particular ministry, to come set up a table and be willing to share and help other churches

who have an interest in developing that ministry in their own church. We also plan to set up the disaster relief and ministry trailer and invite many of

our ministry partners to be there with us as well. There will be more information in the future, what I ask here is that if your church has a specific

ministry that God has blessed and you are willing to come and share that with others, please contact Marty or myself at the office or at either one of

our emails. (Marty’s email is [email protected]). One additional item, we have decided to make our executive board meetings, open meetings. In

truth, the annual meeting has always been a hard time for meaningful input from others. Thus, we are changing our format to invite anyone who

wants to come and render input into the association’s ministries and direction. As with the annual meeting there will be more information that will be

provided in the future. One of our desires is to be as transparent as we can and try to involve as many churches as we can as we work together to

share the gospel with over four million people!

“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all…” --- 1 Corinthians 12:4-8 (NKJV) “The breakout churches did not just look for the best qualified people to be a part of the ministry team. They sought people who would be the right fit with their personalities and philosophies of ministry. The “team” concept is vital in these churches. The lay and staff leaders in these churches used the word chemistry more than a dozen times to describe the teamwork of their ministries.”

--- Thom S. Rainer, Breakout Churches, Zondervan, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49530, p. 101 Growth within the church should be accompanied by leadership development. With numerical increase comes added responsibility within the church; needs have to be met. In times of financial hardship it is not difficult to find people within the congregation who are qualified or over-qualified for ministry positions. Here are four truths about potential volunteer leaders within your congregation: Potential leaders give of their time During times of economic decline and the resulting burdensome financial decline, pastors need volunteer leadership to plan, execute, and manage the day to day operation of the church, for ministries within the body, and for outreach into the community. Potential leaders will follow a reasonable plan Rick Warren uses Jesus as the example of the Ultimate Planner. His plan was simple but effective, Jesus loved everyone, feed the 5,000, discipled the 70, called the 12, mentored the 7, ordained the 3, and died for all. Planning is important; but less is always more. Potential leaders need to be developed Three easy steps to successful leadership development are: tell them what; show them how; and let them go.

Here’s your chance to enjoy an evening with the New America

Singers (CA Baptist State Youth Choir’s select, overseas show choir),

without going to Asia, Europe, or Africa to see them!

Sunday night, Aug. 1 at Palm Baptist Church in Riverside,

6:30 pm. No admission fee.

Bring the entire family for an uplifting and entertaining program, fea-

turing the same choreographed music, drama, and puppetry the Singers

share with audiences around the world. We encourage you to bring

your non-churched friends as well. They will enjoy the program, and

will learn about a God who loves them and can give them new life!

In July, Orangecrest Community Church held their 3rd annual KidZone Sports

Camp for children (Grade K - 6th) in Riverside. Over 175 kids participated and

what's most exciting is the fact that 80% of those kids were from the

community. The Sports Camp gives us a chance to provide a high energy week of

fun for kids who are anxious to get outdoors after being indoor all day. The camp

was held each evening over a one week period at the Orange Terrace Community

Center. Each night kids are introduced to 2 different sports and a team value that is tied to biblical values and

characters. "It's great to see so many kids learning new skills, but more importantly we're given a chance to

introduce them to God's love and his way of doing life." Pray for OCC as they follow up on the many families

who attended the camp. We're kicking off a new series for families called, "A Parent's Gameplan" beginning in

August and we're inviting those families to come on Sundays to learn more.
