The Honourable Chief Minister Thiru.N.Rangasamy honoured Dr.D.Loganathan,HOD, CSE, PEC for host-ing the website for Puducherry Backward Corpora-tion Board, which was designed and developed by the MCA students Mr.G.Balakrishnan and Mr.R.Dinesh Kumar as their MCA final year project in the year 2014. It is currently being hosted in the State Data Centre and the link is http://PBCMDC.PY.Gov.in .

DIGITAL INDIA Our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi initiated “The Digital India Movement”, so as to digitalize the certificates of students. In relation to this event an essay competition was conducted on the topic “ROLE OF DIG-ITAL TECHNOLOGY IN EMPOWERING INDIA”. On last week of July, The Governor of Pondicherry, A. K. Singh addressed the gathering and prizes were distrubuted to the winners of the essay competition. He pro-vided digital locker number to the students.

INDEPENDENCE DAYOn Independence day, the flag hoisting ceremony was arranged by NSS head Mr. N. Sivakumar and was headed by Prin-cipal of PEC. As a tribute to late Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, saplings were planted in and around the college. The HOD’s and Principal initiated this noble cause.

FIRST YEAR INAUGURATION:The inaguration function for newly admitted Engineering students(2015-2019) was organ-ised on 10th August, 2015. The Honourable Chief Minister, Mr. N. Rangasamy presided the gathering and inspired the new comers with his thought provoking oratory. It was followed by the respected Principal and Dr. K. Vivekanand-han’s, Dean(students)speech. Around 400 stu-dents along with their parents were gathered & attended the subsequent orientation program.

TRIBUTE TO DR.A.P.J.ABDUL KALAMAs a tribute to Dr. A.P. J. Abdul Kalam, vid-eo presentation contest and Tamil elocution competition was held on 17th and 18th August re-spectively at CSE seminar hall. The students fromall the departments made an active participation.

Rajarajan Sivaraj, is an alumnus of the Com-puter Science and Engineering Department at Pondicherry Engineering College, gradu-ating from the 2009 B.Tech batch. He is cur-rently a Ph.D candidate in Computer Science at the University of California, Davis, USA, where he is working on problems concern-ing Radio Research Management in next gen-eration wireless telecommunication systems.He won the award for honourable mention in rec-ogntion for out-standing gradu-ate research at the Computer Sci-ence department of UC Davis in 2015. During his

academic research career spanning five years, he had over 10 research publications in highly selective conferences and jour-nals, which include the likes of IEEE INFO-COM, IEEE JSAC and his works have been cited over 150 scholarly articles worldwide. He has worked in some of the top most tel-ecommunication research labs and industries which include AT&T, NCE, BROADCOM and INTEL. He has Pioneered some of the key re-search works in 4G/5G LTE-Advanced Sytems and has delivered research talks in some of the most prestigious academic and R&D venues.

DEPARTMENT NEWS:B.TECH (2014-18) students were warmly welcomed into the CSE dept on 29 th July 2015 by conduct-ing freshers party which was organ-ised in the presence of HOD and the most respected faculty mem-bers .There was a celebration, then freshers were enlightened by the valuable advice of HOD and teach-ers.Afternoon, technical and non technical events were organisedwherein freshers were active-ly participated on a grand note.

The freshers of the M.Tech were welcomed on 18th August 2015 by their seniors to the CSE de-partment by organising freshers party. There was a celebration and HOD of CSE addressed the new comers. The respect-ed faculties of the department delivered speech individually.The gifts were presented to the students by the HOD which was followed by technical and non-technical events. The par-ty really broke the ice between the seniors and the juniors.

The CSE Department offers three PG programmes namely M.Tech(DCS), M.Tech(IS) and MCA. A formal inaguration for all the three PG courses was organised by the department on 12th August 2015. The new comers were enlightened about autonomous regulation and curriculum.They were also informed about the general rules and regulations of the college.

PERSONALITY TO BE KNOWN:

Pichai Sundararajan better known as Sundar Pichai, was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India in 1972 . His father Regunatha Pi-chai was a senior electrical engi-neer for the British conglomerate General Electric Company (GEC) and managed a factory that man-ufacture electrical components. Sundar Pichai earned his degree from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) in Metallur-gical Engineering. He holds an MS degree from Stanford University in Material Sciences and Engineer-ing and he obtained MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar. Pichai joined ‘Google’ in 2004,

where he led the product man-agement and innovation efforts for a suite of Google’s client soft-ware products. On 19th Novem-ber, 2009, Pichai demonstrated Chrome OS. The Chromebook was released for trial and testing in 2011 and released in public in 2012 . He was a Director of Jive Soft-ware from April 2011 to July 2013.Pichai Sundararajanis a technolo-gy executive who is Prod-uct Chief at Google Inc. He became the CEO of Google on 10th August, 2015.He added glory to India, especially Tamil Nadu and became the global icon.

About 30 faculty members of PEC have participated in the four weeks online course on “MOOC on MOOC” organ-ized by IIT-Kanpur. This course was at-tended by hundreds of participants from India and abroad. Six faculty members have successfully completed the course requirements and received Certificate of Participation with Distinction. Dr. K. Saruladha and Dr. P. Salini were two among them.

MHRD, Govt. of India under TEQIP scheme has launched live video con-ferencing classes piloted by IIT Ma-dras during the year 2013. B.Tech., M.Tech., and M.C.A students of CSE dept. have been actively participating in the live classes on topics such as Op-erating Systems, Software Engineer-ing, Embedded Systems and Com-puter Organization and Architecture.
