MUD BOG PARKING SLOW EVENT.
The parking event June 23rd was a slow event. The volunteers were scarce as well as the people coming to see the event.
The 9 Lions that showed up to park cars were: Lion Jeanne Laws, Lion Lynn Reddekopp, Lion Dennis Opdahl, Lion Bob Beaubier, Lion Jerry Kriegel, Lion Jim Luper, Lion William Long, Lion Jean Long and Lion Tom Martin. Lion Lynn’s wife Barbara also helped.
Please try to come out and help park for the Round Up in September, as the club will need everyone it can get to help.
NEXT PARKING IN SEPTEMBER NO PARKING IN AUGUST
Note that the parking event for August 13th has been canceled (web site checked on July 30th) and our next park-ing event will be the Round Up in Septem-ber. The club will need all the volunteers that we can get
NEW DAYS FOR CLUB MEETINGS
On July 5th, the Grace Lutheran Church burnt down which facili-tated the return of “Weight Watch-ers” to the Lions Club house. It was requested for at least a year.
They want to meet three times on Tuesday and as our income has slowed greatly, this was agreed to.
As this would interfere with our meetings, the board decided to change the meeting day to the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.
Hopefully this will not interfere with any members attending the meet-ings.
AUGUST 17th ALIVE AFTER 5
The last Alive After 5 is on August 17th and anyone who would like to help, please contact Lion Jean Long. The hours are from 5 PM to 8 PM. Lion Tom us usually there about 3:30 to set up and could use one extra person to help.
The last Alive After 5 was lots of fun and we put out a presence to the locals. The kids love the “Bean Bag Toss” and we make sure that everyone is a winner, even if it takes several tries. See pic-tures on page 3

BOARD MEETING 7-25
After the date of the board meeting being moved a couple of times, there was a fair turnout. There were 10 board members present out of 15.
Clean up of the club house was discussed and it was decided to have a painting party on Thursday, August 4th. Lion Jean Laws and Lion Donna Konen are going in early to start the prep work. A color for the walls were approved.
Lion Tom Martin brought up the sugges-tion of ordering two 24” signs for the new club trailer which was approved.
Lion Bob Beaubier gave an eye glass report and as the prospects look good but needed more info, the board selected to approve the glasses upon Lion Bob’s approval.
The trophy case was discussed and as most of the trophies were from the 60’s, it was decided to locate the key and thin down the case and maybe change some of the items for newer things.
The club house rental to “Weight Watch-ers” was discussed and as the club house funds are diminishing, it was decided to rent to them, having them add Tuesday to their schedule. They will be meeting 3 times a day on Tuesday and as this is our normal club meeting day, it was decided to change the club meeting days to the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. This change will last for approximately 1 year, until the Lutheran Church can be rebuilt.
Lion Tom turned in money that he had collected for the newsletter fund.

INVITE FROM CLARKSTON LIONS
Don’t forget the invite from the Clarkston Lions Club to meet their exchange student from Japan, who will be at the Clarkston meeting on August 17th.
FALL ANNUAL CONVENTION
This is the first year that the MD19 conven-tion and the Fall Forum have been com-bined. It is being held in Yakima this year at the Howard Johnson.
The Convention form is on page 5 and the hotels and prices are on page 6.
Register early as only the first 500 regis-trants will receive convention pins. (looks like a sheriff star)
Lets make a club showing at this event and have at least 5 or 6 attend.
Hope to see you there.
UPDATE ON TRAILER Hopefully the trailer will be done by Round Up.
The sides, roof and wheel covers are done with two coats of paint and a single prep coat on the roof. The sides will be painted grey and the roof will be white fiberglass. The inside will be white, which still has to be painted. Also shelves and bins to keep the inside orderly needs to be done. Lion Tom still has to build the back doors which can be done in a day or two.
Most of the time needed will be the curing of the paint and caulking of all the joints where the metal frame and wood sides meet.
I will try my best to have it ready for Round Up which gives me about a month to finish it.

Page 3 ALIVE AFTER 5…. JULY 20th
Alive After 5 was once again a great success. Lions William Long, Lion Jean Long, Lion Tom Martin, Lion Bill Arnold, shown on the left and Lion Linda O’Dowd manned the booth and all endured the heat. Lion Jeanne Laws helped with set up.
There was a steady line of kids wanting
to throw the bean bag through a hole for a piece of candy.
All kids went away a winner as they actually got to toss bean bags and get closer until they finally won. Every child went home a winner.
One little girl figured out that when she was told to make the bean bag go through the hole that the closer she got, the bet-ter it was.
The last Alive After 5 is on August 17th and any-one who would like to help, please contact Lion Jean Long. The hours are from 5 PM to 8 PM. Lion Tom us usually there about 3:30 to set up and could use one extra person to help.
Besides the Bean bag toss, to the right is how our table looked. Lemonade for a $1 donation, fly-ers on what LCIF does and flyers on what the Lewiston Lions Club does plus sev-eral copies of our newsletter which were handed out.
If nothing else, at least come out to Alive After 5 and visit us and see what we are doing.
2011 LIONS INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION SEATTLE, WASHINGTON USA
Seattle, downtown, we came, we saw, it conquered us. Half of where ever you went was uphill and the other half was downhill. Only flat land was in the stores, hotels and Convention center.
The three members of the Lewiston Li-ons Club that attended this years Inter-national Convention were: Past Presi-dent Lion Linda O’Dowd, PDG Lion Jim Luper and Lion Tom Martin.
First of all, Lion Tom apologizes for for-getting his camcorder on his dining room table. OPPS!
Top right is PDG Lion Jim Luper holding a US Flag. To the right is Lion Linda O’Dowd next to the RMCP who was MD19’s escort for the Parade through Seattle.
For the parade, there were so many different colorful costumes from different countries that it would take a book to show all.
There were over 40,000 Lions in Seattle and 3/2rds of them were (I think) in the parade. As MD19 was the host district, we were the last group to march in the parade.
To the right, not sure where these gals are from, but was told that their hats are taken to the hat designer/stylist and can cost as much as an expensive hair do. Hey guys, flat hats or base-ball caps do not need styled and if so, you can just add a couple of pins. Way cheaper for us guys.
More costumes to the right.
I couldn’t find and groups or clubs from Ireland, but I did find a group of Aussies that belong to the McGruder Club from Australia, bagpipes and all. If you would like to see a lot more pictures, go to the MD19 website: http://www.lionsmd19.com/ and click on the cowboy hat

MAN KILLED ON GOLF COURSE,
2 SEVERELY INJURED
A foursome of guys is waiting at the men's tee while
a foursome of women is hitting from the ladies' tee.
The ladies are taking their time. When the final lady
is ready to hit her ball, she hacks it 10 feet. Then
she goes over and whiffs it completely. Then she
hacks it another ten feet and finally hacks it another
five feet.
She looks up at the patiently waiting men and says
apologetically, "I guess all those f***ing lessons I
took over the winter didn't help."
One of the men immediately responds, "Well, there
you have it. You should have taken golf lessons
instead!"
They never even had a chance to duck.
Pecans in the Cemetery
On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pe-can tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts.
'One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me,' said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.
Another boy came riding along the road on his bicy-cle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from in-side the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, 'One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me...'
He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.
'Come here quick,' said the boy, 'you won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!'
The man said, 'Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk.' When the boy insisted though, the man hob-bled slowly to the cemetery.
Standing by the fence they heard, 'One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me.'
The old man whispered, 'Boy, you've been tellin' me the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord...?
Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord.
At last they heard, 'One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done...?
They say the old man had the lead for a good half-mile before the kid on the bike passed him.

From the diary of a Pre-School Teacher
My five-year old students are learning to read. Yesterday one of them pointed at a picture in a
zoo book and said, "Look at this! It's a frickin' elephant!"
I took a deep breath, and then asked... "What did you call it?"
"It's a frickin' elephant! It says so on the picture!"
And so it does...
" A f r i c a n Elephant "
Hooked on phonics! Ain't it wonderful? Now that's funny, I don't care who you
are.
