ST. PIUS X Feast Day: August 21 Canonized: May 29, 1954 Pope Pius X is perhaps best remembered for his encourage-ment of the frequent recepon of Holy Communion, espe-cially by children. The second of 10 children in a poor Italian family, Joseph Sarto became Pius X at age 68. Ever mindful of his humble origin, his last will and testament bears the striking sentence: "I was born poor, I have lived in poverty, and I wish to die poor." Interested in polics, Pope Pius encouraged Italian Catholics to become more polically involved. One of his first papal acts was to end the supposed right of governments to inter-fere by veto in papal elecons—a pracce that reduced the freedom of the 1903 conclave which had elected him. In 1905, when France renounced its agreement with the Holy See and threatened confiscaon of Church property if gov-ernmental control of Church affairs were not granted, Pius X courageously rejected the demand. While he did not author a famous social encyclical as his pre-decessor had done, he denounced the ill treatment of indige-nous peoples on the plantaons of Peru, sent a relief com-mission to Messina aer an earthquake, and sheltered refu-gees at his own expense.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Love Each Other, Learn Together, and Lead the Way
Where did the summer go? It seems like it just started, which makes it so hard to believe school starts tomorrow! Although we may be a lile sad summer is coming to an end, all of us at the school are excited to begin a new school year. My team has been working hard this summer to ensure this is the
best year yet at All Saints Catholic School. We have many new things planned for the 2019-2020 school year including a great new Science Curriculum for all grades developed by the Law-rence Hall of Science. I am also proud to announce our new security doors have been installed! The safety iniave began during the 2016-2017 school year with the installaon of the gates in the school yard. During the 2017-2018 school year, our amazing students, par-ents and staff raised funds for the security upgrades which in-cluded new doors for the front of our building. With our new video surveillance and doors, we are proud to be able to provide a safer environment for our students. We want to thank our school parents, our parish family and the Oakland Diocese for their unwavering support for this iniave. We also want to give a special thank you to Res Zaballos and his amazing team at R. Zaballos & Sons for making this dream a reality. We could not have achieved this dream without you all! We hope you will join us in the many events we have planned this year!
