used by end consumers: Wikitude
Augmented RealityOverview
AR & Wikitude World Browser Augmented reality camera-
view Points of interests, historical
and future building models, street navigation, … displayed on screen

Company behind Wikitude: MOBILIZY
Wikitude World BrowserA video is worth a thousand
words …
Wikitude ARHow it works
1. Smartphone detects current position (GPS) and orientation (compass, accelerometer)
2. Server request3. Phone calculates
position of POIs on the screen
Necessary components: - GPS- Compass- Accelerometer
WIKITUDE as a Platform WIKITUDE WORLD BROWSER
Available on Android and iPhoneSymbian version to be releasedend of November
Wikitude 3D ARML (subset of KML)
WIKITUDE.me: User Generated Content WIKITUDE API: AR development kit WIKITUDE DRIVE: AR navigation

(AR) Hype – Why?
From noon to 6 p.m. mobiledevices are the nr. 1 used massmedia
Mobile devices are the 7th mass media:
Actual situation 100.000 mobile applications 2 billion downloads Various App Stores (Apple, Android, Nokia, …)
Mobile hype Devices and platforms
enable developers to create Augmented Reality
Web Reality
Augmented Reality
AR hypeOne step leads to another …
Internet and HTML vs. AR and ARML HTML was an approach to standardise the
visualization of content from the Internet AR is playing the part of the Internet (visualise
content) Huge datasources contain KML files (Google
Earth) Not sufficient for AR new standard based on KML: ARML
Vision: Every AR browser supports ARML (like Webbrowsers
support HTML). Resuse existing datasources, changes are hardly
necessary, Existing tools like Google Earth support ARML because
they support KML
WIKITUDE API
Similar to Google maps for the Web, the Wikitude AR view aims at becoming
an easy-to-integrate AR view standard for mobile devices.
Every developer can build his own AR app Increasing the reach and commercial value for
advertisement enormously
Wikitude API
Real Estate App
Job App
Partnership App
Weather App
Car Finder
Hotspot Finder

Augmented Reality games Augmented Reality communication Glasses instead of phones
AR = essential part in everyday life Any information can be fetched
where and when it is needed (location based and situational aware)
