Drive 4 UR Community
By Mary Amrowski
The Drive 4 UR School pro-
gram is a fun way for our
community to raise money
for many of our school’s
activities. Students, par-
ents, and teachers all came
out to participate in driving
new Ford cars to raise do-
nation funds. Ford donated
$20 per person who came
out to participate, up to
$6000! Band Boosters
were one of the many com-
munity organizations who
came out to contribute.

Nothing but Dust and Color
Sylvester resi-
dents had a “doggone”
good time at Jeffords
Park on August 16. This
was an event created
by high school student
Shelby Dobbins to raise
money and awareness
for our own Best
Friends Humane Socie-
ty. The fee to enter was
$5 and it was a walk
that started at Jeffords
Park and ended at Har-
vey’s. There were re-
freshments at the be-
ginning and end of the
walk and even compli-
mentary treat bags for
the dogs. The event
turned out to be a suc-
cess and raised a ton of
money for our
shelter rescue
pets.

The Color Run at Worth County was a
5K fundraiser. August 16, residents gathered
for this event, to not only to raise money for
our Ram Football team but also to show Ram
spirit.
“The color Run was a huge success. It was re-
ally fun, especially when you got covered in
colored chalk,” senior Courtney Hamilton said.

Changes With The
New Year
By Mary Amrowski
Over the summer various
changes were made to our school.
On the first day of the students’
arrival they quickly noticed and
commented on the schools modi-
fications. These include many
safety changes. The school includ-
ed gates and fences to the bus
loop, sides of the school, and stu-
dent parking lot. The front office
was also renovated. The office got
a new set of doors to protect the
students.
Another change to the
school year is also the new addi-
tion of teachers and clubs. Some
of our school’s new clubs include
Key Club and Science Club.

Our Lady Ram Soft-
ball team played Tift County
twice in the month of Au-
gust. The first game they
played was a scrimmage
game where our team lost 1
-0. However, in their regu-
lar game against Tift our
Lady Rams brought home a
victory of 2-1. Senior Court-
ney Hamilton said, “Our
victory against Tift County
was an enduring battle. It
was a head to head game
which proved to be very
tough for both opposing
teams. During the game,
we went into extra innings

Rams Cross the Line
By Mary Amrowski
At the sound of the
gun shot, more than 100 run-
ners from around Southwest
Georgia participated in the 5k
at Americus on the last week-
end of August.
Before the first race,
Coach Colby Simpson said, “I
have high expectations for my
runners. I want them to train
well and succeed on the
course.”
Hunter Jones gives us
an inside scoop on what its
like to be a cross-country run-
ner. “First, all the runners line
up at the starting point and
when the gun goes off most of
us sprint the first half mile and
continue at a constant pace
from there on. It’s difficult to
keep going sometimes, but I
always think about the good
it’s doing for my body. I also
play soccer, so running cross
country keeps me in shape
and sharpens my skills.”
Fight Against Fitz. By Mary Amrowski
The 2014 football season is underway
with the Rams defeated at home by Fitzgerald
High. Head Coach Tone leads a young potential
team, yet still striving for the first win.
The Rams started the game with success,
however after halftime is when they lost the lead
and failed to recover. Senior Alex Hines #9 said,
“We played a great game and in the end we
were tired and lost focus. So now we know that
we have the ability to win but we just have to
stay strong and finish.”
Hunter Jones pushes through to the finish line
in Americus on the last cross country meet for
August.
