SponsorsA big thank you to our sponsors for their support of tonight’s Fur Ball Auction and Dinner!

Welcome!Dear Friends,

Welcome to Homeward Pet’s 2017 Fur Ball Auction and Dinner!

We’re so excited you’ve joined us this evening for what promises to be one of our best and most memorable events yet. We’ve packed the night with an amazing silent auction, exciting raffle prizes, a delectable dinner, and an opportunity to meet amazing people from the greater Seattle area who are fighting for a better future for animals.

Nearly 500 of our fellow animal lovers have come together tonight from a variety of unique backgrounds and experiences— all here for the very same thing. We’re here because we believe that every animal deserves a second chance at finding a loving and caring forever home. We’re here because we believe that controlling animal overpopulation is the responsibility of us all. And we’re here because we want to make a real difference for animals in the state of Washington.

This event is my favorite night of the year. Tonight is all about the animals. It’s about working together to provide each precious life a vision for a brighter future, making new friends, and meeting new allies. It’s about raising money to transform our passion into a plan of action for the dogs and cats of Homeward Pet.

We hope tonight delights you and you leave here knowing the full weight of your impact on our homeless animals.

Sincerely,

Terri Inglis Executive Director

Master of Ceremonies, Herb Weisbaum

Herb Weisbaum, The ConsumerMan, is an Emmy-award winning reporter and one of America’s top consumer experts. Herb anchors the Midday News on KOMO Radio and writes a weekly consumer column for NBCNews.com. Herb has covered the consumer beat for NBC’s Today Show and CBS News. Herb and his wife Debra are passionate animal lovers who have supported various animal rescue and adoption

organizations in Western Washington. They are proud to be part of an amazing group of volunteers at Homeward Pet. Their furry family members include Buster, a beautiful ragdoll cat adopted from Homeward Pet and Sam, a super-friendly Chihuahua-Terrier mix.

Auctioneer, Fred Northup, Jr.Fred Northup, Jr. is a nationally-known fundraising auctioneer who raises over ten million dollars a year for non-profits all over the country. From small fundraisers to multimillion-dollar galas, Fred’s auctioneering combines his unique experience as a comedy improviser, event producer, expert fundraiser, and master entertainer. Repeat customers include The Museum of Flight, The Auction of Washington Wines, Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, March of Dimes, Boys and Girls Clubs, Evergreen Health, Big

Brothers/Big Sisters, Lakeside School, and more.

“My background in storytelling and comedy helps me keep an audience engaged, but that’s so I can put the organization front-and-center. My humor, authenticity, and energy are all very important, but backstage I’m known as ‘the guy who never leaves money in the room.’ It’s why I offer unlimited pre-event consulting on procurement, audience development, sponsorship, timeline, storytelling, paddle raise strategy, silent auctions, vendor selection, and more. The countless hours I spend before the event consulting and preparing are just as important as my time on stage.”

In addition to his work on stage, Fred Northup runs a video and event production company, Southdown Creative. He’s also the co-founder of RainGlobes, the globe that rains! When not entertaining the masses, Fred can be found in Seattle entertaining his wife, Ashley, and their two children.

Jim Keller, Catalog ReaderHomeward Pet Adoption Center’s Operations Director, Jim Keller, wears many hats. Not only does he keep the day-to-day operations of the shelter running, but with the help of his staff, he has done so with record breaking adoption numbers. Jim is also the “voice” of Homeward Pet in many ways – he is able to communicate some of the cats’ and dogs’ stories to

our supporters through his writing and tonight, through his voice. Through Jim, we hope you’ll realize the fun, passion and dedication of Homeward Pet staff, volunteers and supporters.

Shelter EssentialsHelp us purchase essential equipment and supplies for the dogs and cats at Homeward Pet! Your fully tax-deductible donation will go directly toward the purchase of your selected items and benefit the animals of Homeward Pet. Thank you for your generous support!*

100-Gallon Everlast Commercial Water Heater, Including InstallationAs Homeward Pet has grown to care for nearly 2000 animals a year, our need for upgraded infrastructure has also grown. Our current 40-gallon tank is constantly outmatched by our need for hot water for dental surgeries in the clinic, to provide medicated baths to dogs, to prepare cat and dog food, to wash and sanitize dishes, litterboxes, bedding, towels, toys, and more.

The Everlast Commercial Water Heater combines high quality stainless steel construction and energy efficient operation, providing plenty of hot water without consuming large amounts of energy. This unit features durable components, low standby heat loss, high recovery rates, and the industry’s strongest warranty.

Retail price $4,000 $100 suggested donation goes toward the cost of the water heater

Complete Kennels for Cat Intake RoomThe health and well-being of our animals is always a top priority for our shelter, but when working with the homeless animal population, disease and infection can occur. Our current kennels in the Cat Intake room pose challenges to Homeward Pet’s standards of sanitation. Due to the age, make and model of our current kennels, textured plastic and crevasses serve as havens for bacteria and viruses, even after thorough cleaning by our trained volunteers and staff. Also, cats recently arriving at the shelter tend to be more stressed, more likely to not be fully vaccinated and protected, and thus more at risk for contracting disease. Fully enclosed, stainless steel kennels will provide a safer environment for our new arrivals that is easily cleaned and disinfected.

Retail price $2,300 $50 suggested donation goes toward the cost of the kennels

*Once Shelter Essential project goals have been met, any additional funds raised will help with the completion of both projects or go to the direct care of the shelter animals.

Pay It ForwardHelp us find great, permanent homes for our current and future shelter residents looking to start the next chapter of their lives. Your donation will help cover the adoption fee of a homeless cat or dog as well as their care during their stay with Homeward Pet. Because of your support, once we’ve found their perfect match we’ll be able to send that animal home with their adoption fee already paid. The new family will then be able to devote more to the care of their new furry friend.

• $100 per Cat suggested donation

• $175 per Dog suggested donation

PAWS FOR A CAUSELast year, Homeward Pet cared for nearly 2000 homeless animals. The cats and dogs that we take in come from a wide variety of places and backgrounds, and have a myriad of experiences and circumstances that have brought them to us – from the still nursing kitten whose mother passed away giving birth to the neglected senior dog from a hoarder home, from the stray cat seeking shelter on a dry back porch to the large breed pup left behind when his family had to move.

Every adoption is cause for celebration, as we match each cat or dog to a loving family.

In between arrival and adoption is the work we do, making the best use of time and resources to provide each animal what they need. The Dunmire Family Clinic at Homeward Pet is staffed with two veterinarians, a veterinary technician and clinic manager who are kept busy attending to the medical concerns of our cats and dogs.

Recently, with your support, we have expanded the focus of our care to provide for our animals’ mental well-being, as our Animal Behavior Manager oversees behavioral assessments, training and enrichment for the dogs and cats in our care.

By attending to the medical AND behavioral needs of our animals, Homeward Pet continues to be a progressive leader among animal shelters in Washington State.

Every animal we take in is spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and given a comprehensive health exam and behavior assessment. But many arrive at the shelter desperately in need of extraordinary care. Some have health issues that require major surgeries, special treatments or costly medicine. Some – victims of neglect or abuse or lack of proper care – need extra socialization and training from our Dog Behavior Team.

Tonight’s video focuses on two stories, pulled from the hundreds of stories last year, of animals getting the exceptional health and behavior help they needed at Homeward Pet. Orange, an 8 year old cat, was surrendered to us with a broken leg when his owners couldn’t afford the cost of his surgery. At Homeward Pet, Orange was given the extensive diagnostics, treatments and amputation surgery needed to restore his quality of life and take away his pain. Max, a 10-month old Shepherd, was an outdoor dog who’d never known what it meant to be part of a family. He had lived isolated from humans which caused him to be extremely shy and nervous in all new situations. Through our behavior programs, staff and volunteers were able to take the time to build his confidence, help him begin to trust people and learn what it means to be a member of a loving family.

Last year, Whoopi’s Fund for Special Needs Animals covered the cost of major medical procedures for nearly 300 cats and dogs, giving them a healthy, pain-free start to a new life. Our Dog Behavior Team provided daily training sessions - and a lot of TLC - for over 100 dogs in need, until they found their forever homes. Tonight, we ask you to support our efforts to give every animal the help they need, regardless of the time, effort or cost of care.

Tonight you will have the opportunity to join our auctioneer and raise your paddle at the following levels: $10,000, $5000, $2500, $1000, $500, $250, $100. On behalf of Homeward Pet and all the animals your gift will help, thank you for your compassion and generosity.

Thank you!

Auction RulesGeneral RulesAll items must be paid for and removed at the end of the evening. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card. All items are sold “as is” and all sales are final. Homeward Pet Adoption Center has attempted to describe all packages correctly, but neither we nor the Auctioneer warrant nor represent and shall in no event be held responsible for the correctness of descriptions of warranties on the goods or services sold. Buyer represents that he or she has inspected goods, and accepts all responsibilities. No description or statements made in the catalog or made orally at the auction shall be deemed a warranty or assumption of liability. Homeward Pet Adoption Center reserves the right to withdraw any item from the sale before final call for bids.

Silent Auction RulesYour name badge contains your bidder number. All items have an adjacent bid sheet. Enter your bid by legibly writing your bid number opposite the desired bid amount. If you REALLY want an item, write your bid number in the box labeled, “Guaranteed Bid” and it is yours! Once a guaranteed bid has been entered, bidding on that item is closed. The silent auction will be closed in three separate sections. Each section’s closing time will be announced. At that point, all bidding on that section ceases. The closing bid circled by an auction official constitutes the winning bid.

Live Auction RulesYour bid card will be on your dinner table. To bid on an item, raise your bid card so that the Auctioneer can acknowledge it. You are the successful bidder when the Auctioneer says, “SOLD” and acknowledges your bid number - this acknowledgement constitutes a legal contract to buy. In the event of a dispute between bidders, the Auctioneer shall have sole discretion to determine the winning bid or to re-offer the item in dispute.

PaymentAll sales are final. For items that are jointly purchased by two or more parties, payment must be made by the signer/designated bidder who shall arrange for reimbursement from the co-purchasers. Paper receipts are not required for item pick-up and will not be provided unless specifically requested. All receipts will be emailed within 1 week of the auction. Should you not receive your receipt following the event, please contact [email protected] or (425) 488-4444 ex. 4015 for assistance.

Tax DeductionAuction purchases may be tax deductible as provided by law. Only the portion you pay above the declared value is tax deductible. However, please consult a tax advisor regarding tax laws and the deductibility of certain purchases.
