Welcome!Dear Friends,

Welcome to Homeward Pet’s 2016 Fur Ball Auction & Dinner!

We’re so excited you’ve joined us this evening for what promises to be our best and most memorable event yet. We’ve packed the night with an amazing silent auction, exciting raffle prizes, a delectable dinner, and an opportunity to meet amazing people from the greater Seattle area who are fighting for a better future for animals.

Nearly 500 of our fellow animal lovers have come together tonight from a variety of unique backgrounds and experiences—but all here for the very same thing. We’re here because we believe that every animal deserves a second chance to find a loving and caring forever home. We’re here because we believe that controlling animal overpopulation is the responsibility of us all. And we’re here because we want to make a real difference for animals in the state of Washington.

This event is my favorite night of the year. Tonight is all about the animals. It’s about working together to provide each precious life a vision for a brighter future, making new friends, and meeting new allies. It’s about raising money to transform our passion into a plan of action for the dogs and cats of Homeward Pet.

We hope tonight delights you and you leave here knowing the full weight of your impact on our homeless animals.

Moving forward together,

Terri Inglis Executive Director

Master of Ceremonies, Herb Weisbaum

Herb Weisbaum, The ConsumerMan, is an Emmy-award winning reporter and one of America’s top consumer experts. Herb anchors the Midday News on KOMO Radio and writes a weekly consumer column for NBCNews.com. Herb has covered the consumer beat for NBC’s Today Show and CBS News. Herb and his wife Debra are passionate animal lovers who have supported various animal rescue and adoption

organizations in Western Washington. They are proud to be part of an amazing group of volunteers at Homeward Pet. Their furry family members include Buster, a beautiful ragdoll cat adopted from Homeward and Sam, a super-friendly Chihuahua-Terrier mix.

Auctioneer, Laura MichalekFundraising Auctioneer Laura Michalek still relies on the endurance and discipline she possessed when at the age of 15, she was the first female winner of the Chicago Marathon. While Ms. Michalek has hardly missed a day of

running since then, it’s this intention to excel at what she loves that is most evident. “To me Auctioneering is about giving a lot of yourself, before and during the event, in a way that most folks wouldn’t expect.” Her style, fundraising insight, and commitment to her clients, and their mission, not only sets her apart, but has created a career beyond Ms. Michalek’s wildest dreams. “I’ve always been deeply interested in how non-profits I care about are going to sustain themselves, so it is nothing less than a thrill to know I can personally and professionally be part of that.” For 15 years prior to becoming a full time Fundraising Professional, Ms. Michalek owned and operated several nationally recognized vintage modern furniture stores in Seattle. “My critical eye, intuition, and energy level has been pretty consistent all these years, so whenever I set out to do something, it’s the same set of skills, just a slightly more developed new chapter.” As the youngest winner in the history of the Chicago Marathon, it has not been lost on Ms. Michalek that this experience informed her whole life. “When I start Auctioneering, it’s like being in the starting block all over

again, and I still set out to win, however this time it’s for the organization I’m representing.” To hear what folks are saying about Ms. Michalek visit www.lauramichalek.com or email [email protected] or call direct at (206) 464-0850.

Shelter EssentialsHelp us purchase essential equipment and supplies for the dogs and cats at Homeward Pet!

Make your pledge toward as many Shelter Essentials as you would like. Your fully tax-deductible donation will go directly toward the purchase of your selected items and benefit the animals of Homeward Pet. Thank you for your generous support!

Laube 505 Super Cordless Clipper Kit 2-Speed with lightsClippers are a necessity for every veterinary clinic. A body covered in fur creates an additional challenge in our animal patients. Fur blocks visualization of any potentially injured skin (bite, scratch, laceration, burn, rash, infection, etc.) as well as inhibits the ability to create a clean (aseptic) field for surgery, wound healing and infection control. Clippers are used daily at HPAC to aid in identification of cats who have been spayed prior to arrival at HPAC, saving them an unnecessary additional surgery. A good set of clippers makes for a fast, easy, safe, painless fur removal for the animal and the operator.

Retail price $438 $50 suggested bids go toward the cost of the item.

Digital Compound Microscope with Built-in 3.0MP USB Camera and Double Layer Mechanical Stage.A microscope is an invaluable tool in any veterinary clinic and would be a perfect addition to the HPAC laboratory. It would be used daily to diagnose ear & skin infections, urinary tract infections, parasites living on and/or in an animal, the cause of an animal’s itchy skin, upset stomach or anemia, cell makeup of skin lumps to determine if surgical removal is necessary or not, animals affected with ringworm - a highly contagious fungal infection of the skin whose spread could result in disastrous consequences for the remainder of the HPAC animals, staff and volunteers. A microscope would allow for faster, easier, more cost efficient in-clinic diagnosis of animal disease that would lead to more immediate and appropriate treatment plans for the animals.

Retail price $369.90 $50 suggested bids go toward cost of the item.

Kennels for Dog IsolationThe health and well-being of our animals is always a top priority for our shelter, but when working with the homeless animal population, disease and infection can occur. Our current kennels in the isolation room pose challenges to Homeward Pet’s standards of sanitation. Due to the make and model of our current kennels, textured plastic and crevasses serve as havens for bacteria and viruses, even after thorough cleaning by our trained volunteers.

- 9 -

Your bids will make it possible for Homeward Pet to provide much needed improvements while also increasing capacity to care for more homeless animals.

Retail Cost $9,380.00 $100 suggested bids go toward the cost of the kennels.

Pay it Forward$100 per Cat$175 per DogHelp us find great permanent homes for our shelter residents! Your donation covers the adoption fee of a dog or cat currently available at Homeward Pet. Choose the animal you’d like to help and we’ll place a sign on the kennel indicating a friend paid the adoption fee. That pet is FREE to go home with a new family!

I endeavor to create objects that stimulate the optic nerves of the brain and uses color as a mood-enhancer. It’s a simple concept, minimal.”

12Paws For A Cause: Matches Made. Lives Saved. All animal lovers understand that special bond that takes place between you and an extraordinary animal in your life. It’s deep, and pure, and unexplainable. It can start at the moment you first meet, and grow stronger every day after.

Every day at Homeward Pet Adoption Center, we’re fortunate to see the beginnings of that bond forming. We see it in the eyes of an adopter, or the smile on their face, in the wag of a tail, in the cat who flops his entire weight into your petting hand, in the tilt of a puppy’s head into a warm chest.

Those are all Matches Made.

In tonight’s video, you’ll see and hear stories of remarkable matches made, of people who felt that bond and gave an animal a loving home. In fact, the happy tales you’ll hear tonight go far beyond that bond, to people and animals that need each other; to two lives made complete when joined together.

Behind every adoption - before any connection is made - is the story of a Life Saved. This is the work we do together. Your support allows our staff and volunteers to provide each cat, dog, kitten or puppy the exceptional care they need – to recover from injury, to be treated for illness, to receive expert training, to socialize and play, to feel a kind touch, to learn to trust again, to know the comfort of warm bed. To be ready when that right person visits our shelter.

Every cat and dog arriving at Homeward Pet receives a thorough intake exam, microchip, necessary vaccines, and treatments, and is spayed or neutered before being available for adoption. Some animals require more, and every day our two staff veterinarians are helping Homeward Pet dogs and cats overcome medical issues from infections to broken bones, prescribing medications, administering tests and performing surgeries.

Our Dog Behavior Team, Kennel Enrichment Program, and advance volunteer training for cat and dog volunteers are not inexpensive to operate, but they are as necessary to the well-being of our animals as their medical care, and essential to making our mission work.

Every week, over 350 big-hearted volunteers visit Homeward Pet to help our staff care for the animals. Our staff Adoption Counselors meet with every potential adopter, introduce them to our adoptable cats and dogs, and help them find the right animal to join their family.

Every successful adoption begins with the hardship and struggle of a homeless animal: abandoned to wander the streets, surrendered by owners who could no longer care for them, sick, neglected or abused.

These are Lives Saved.

Please open your heart, raise your bid card, and join in this life-saving effort. Your generous donation will ensure that we can continue our mission to give the best we can give.

The auctioneer will take bids at the following levels: $7500, 5000, $2500, $1000, $500, $250, $100. On behalf of Homeward Pet and all the animals your gift will help, thank you for your compassion and generosity.

Matches Made. Lives Saved. And the life saved might just be yours.Thank you!

Auction RulesGeneral RulesAll items must be paid for and removed at the end of the evening. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card. All items are sold “as is” and all sales are final. The Homeward Pet Adoption Center Auction Committee has attempted to describe all packages correctly, but neither we nor the Auctioneer warrant nor represent and shall in no event be held responsible for the correctness of descriptions of warranties on the goods or services sold. Buyer represents that he or she has inspected goods, and accepts all responsibilities. No description or statements made in the catalog or made orally at the auction shall be deemed a warranty or assumption of liability. The Auction Committee reserves the right to withdraw any item from the sale before final call for bids.

Silent Auction RulesYour name badge contains your bidder number. All items have an adjacent bid sheet. Enter your bid by legibly writing your bid number opposite the desired bid amount. If you REALLY want an item, write your bid number in the box labeled, “Guaranteed Bid” and it is yours! Once a guaranteed bid has been entered, bidding on that item is finished. The silent auction will be closed in three separate sections. Each section’s closing time will be announced. At that point, all bidding on that section ceases. The closing bid circled by an auction official constitutes the winning bid.

Live Auction RulesYour bid card will be on your dinner table. To bid on an item, raise your bid card so that the Auctioneer can acknowledge it. You are the successful bidder when the Auctioneer says, “SOLD” and acknowledges your bid number. If you are the highest bidder, an attendant will give you a Live Auction form to sign. The signed acknowledgement constitutes a legal contract to buy. In the event of a dispute between bidders, the Auctioneer shall have sole discretion to determine the winning bid or to re-offer the item in dispute.

PaymentAll sales are final.

For items that are jointly purchased by two or more [parties, payment must be made by the signer/designated bidder who shall arrange for reimbursement from the co-purchasers.
