In order to maintain high hygiene standards in al l sanitary rooms, Atena ti les can be coated with a special mixture of epoxy and polyester resins, which has a specif ic power of disinfecting and keeping hygene on surfaces.

This painting is avai lable in a wide range of colours, brightness and f inishings.

Tests on coated samples, according to ISO 22196:2007, proved a 95% reduction of pathogenic agents in 24 hours. Chemical tests have proved its high resistance level to salt corrosion.

Conceived to ensure the air impermeabi l i ty, the new false cei l ing system is made up of t i les to be hooked, through special springs on T grid structure base 35, which wi l l be total ly concealed.

T i le sides are properly shaped to be equipped with seal ing corners and gasket along its frame. The pressure of the spring t ights the cei l ings and prevent air exchange between the plenum and the environment.

To seal up completely the false cei l ing, the system includes the use of a special perimeter profi le equipped with the Syncro wings to be bent on site, pushing t i les on the T - gr id.

Maximum hygiene level: the Atena 35 Syncroevo is powder coated with a powerful ant ibacterial mixture of epoxy and polyester resins, which has the specif ic task of disinfecting and keeping cleanl iness on surfaces. This paint ing is avai lable in a wide range of colours, brightness and f in ishing.

Instal lation is easy and fast thanks to the use of the 35 T - gr id system and the Syncro t i les to be simply hooked onto the structure.

For seismic zone the system can be equipped with the patented antiseismic Atena kit properly studied to meet the new safety standards and prevent the cei l ing from fal l ing.

Compact and uniform 35 Syncroevo is the new Atena high per formance false cei l ing for hospitals, cl in ics, surgeries, dentist studios, analysis labs, nursery rooms, operat ing rooms, data processing centers and al imentary labs, where security and qual ity are a must.

ATENA AND THE UNIVERS ITY RESEARCH

Seismic design of suspended cei l ings is becoming a topical issue, par t icularly after the strong ear thquakes that recently af fected the centre of I ta ly. Suspended cei l ings can withstand grid damage, inner and perimetral connection fai lure, dis lodging or fal l of panels. Moreover, the interact ion with components attached to the cei l ings, e.g., l ight f ixtures, is another r isk factor. Col lapse of suspended cei l ings can become a safety hazard for occupants and prevent rel ief ef for ts. Fur thermore, fai lures can l imit the funct ional i ty of cr it ical faci l i t ies, such as hospitals, schools and airpor ts. Final ly, economic losses are impor tant aspects, as they concern both rehabi l i tat ion cost and downtime.With the aim of studying the seismic safety of cei l ings, a par tnership between Atena S.p.A. and the Depar tment of Civ i l , Environmental and Architectural Engineering ( ICEA) of the University of Padova has been establ ished.

When and why did the col laboration between Atena SpA and the University of Padova begin?

The par tnership began in 2015 by the purpose of both Atena S.p.A. and Depar tment ICEA of invest igat ing the seismic assessment of suspended cei l ings. In 2016 this col laborat ion was formal ized in a research project ent it led: “Safe cei l ings - Technology for stat ic and seismic safety of new and exist ing cei l ings”, suppor ted by the European Social Fund (FSE). Atena S.p.A. demonstrated a deep interest in the seismic per formance of i ts products and real ized the seismic kit, which is par t of i ts Seismic Line patent. After the recent ear thquakes occurred in Italy, Atena S.p.A. decided to fur ther invest igate and optimise its products in order to def ine their global seismic per formances. The Depar tment ICEA has provided its resources and exper t ise in Structural and Ear thquake Engineering to achieve this object ive.

Who are the members of the research team?

Professor Eng. Rober to Scotta is the supervisor of the research; he is special ised in design of innovat ive systems for construct ion industr ies. Eng. Laura Fiorin is a PhD student in Civ i l and Environmental Engineering Sciences at University of Padova; her research topic is the seismic behaviour of suspended cei l ings. Eng. Sara Brandolese is the grant holder of the Safe Cei l ings project and she col laborates with Eng. Monica Iogna Prat, qual i ty manager of Atena S.p.A..

What is the aim of the research?

In it ia l ly, the research focused on the behaviour of grid connections, tested at the Depar tment ICEA Lab. The research team is now real is ing an innovat ive experimental setup for the evaluat ion of the global seismic response of suspended cei l ings and is developing numerical models able to predict the seismic behaviour of cei l ings.

This approach aims to def ine a new method to compute the forces on these elements and to integrate the formulat ions proposed by seismic Codes. Final ly, the project wi l l use the experimental and numerical results to opt imise the exist ing Atena’s Seismic Line and patent innovat ive technologies.

The innovat ive Antiseismic Kit has been conceived to meet safety and resistance requirements of seismic areas.

Al l Atena false cei l ings can be reinforced with the Atena Antiseismic Kit which integrates the bearing structure with crossing jo int, reinforced holed bares, f ix ing brackets, perimeter prof i les and properly hangers.

The act ion of the reinforced seismic bars absorbs the seismic force from the loft to the bearing structure. On request Atena suppl ies the antiseismic repor t, where the quantity of ant iseismic bars to instal l is indicated.

eASy ANTISeISmIC T-GrId

Regarding T-grid system Atena has developed a special stainless steel ant iseismic reed, properly shaped to lock the connections between cross T prof i les.

Atena antiseismic reed is patented and it has a resistance to tension of 240 N.

In order to give better stabi l i ty and higher torsion resistance al l prof i les are equipped with the special ATENA DOUBLE STITCHING per formed along al l prof i les up to the coupl ing point.

To release the antiseismic repor t for the instal lat ion of an antiseismic suspended cei l ing Atena S.p.A. requires the fol lowing information:

• Location and intended use of bui ld ing;

• Type of construct ion of the bui ld ing and f loors (masonry, ca ...) where false cei l ings wi l l be instal led;

• Updated Plans and sections 1:100 (paper or CAD) of the areas;

• Geological repor t, i f avai lable;

• Special prescript ion i f required;

Atena S.p.A. ant iseismic repor t describes the system instal lat ion steps and includes instruct ions to f ix l ight ing elements and other instal lat ions.

HIGH PERFORMANCE FALSE CEILINGS FOR THE MODERN BURO

In the modern concept of of f ice design the false cei l ings plays an impor tant role to combine aesthetics and functional ity, this means: easy access to the plenum, fast instal lat ion, integrat ion with par t it ion wal ls, ear thquake safety, acoustic and l ight ing comfor t.

For this specif ic sector Atena has developed a wide range of standard and custom-made high per formance products which ref lect the most sophist icated architectural requirements.

For this project in open space areas Atena Enigma 600x600 mm and 600x1200 mm, cl ip in system, with Atena Lux integrated l ighting body have been chosen. For the meeting room: Atena Base 10 open cel l which sets the l imits of the room inside the open spaces, in passageways and corridors, Baffle 30x200 mm interspersed by the Atena Lux Way suspension lamps wich enl ight the ver t ical design of Atena Baf f le.To achieve a per fect balance between ref lect ion and sound absorpt ion, improving speech intel l ig ib i l i ty, Enigma and Baf f le false cei l ings are per forated and equipped with acoustic t issue.

The l ight ing studio elaborated by Atena Lux, achieved a high level of environmental comfor t for each area of use.

Thanks to a ful l range of systems and solut ions, Atena develops a new idea of false cei l ings for the of f ice, a per fect combination of funct ional i ty, comfor t, and emotional design.
