nauguré en mai dernier, le nouveau centre commercial Rives d’Arcins s’est métamorphosé pour s’adapter aux attentes des habit-ants de l’agglomération bordelaise. Situé aux berges de la Garonne, le concept de la galerie s’inscrit entièrement dans une philosophie de nature chique, élégante et zen. Afin de répondre aux enjeux de ce centre ‘différent par nature’, des aménagements paysagers inté-rieurs sur mesure ont été créés pour ponctuer le parcours du visi-teur. Le groupe Savi, guidé pour ce projet par Oliver Cocostègue, a contacté Atelier Vierkant pour la fabrication des vases et éléments sur mesure: le client entre par des bacs AH en terre beige avec hau-teur de 2m30, planté de Dracaena surcullosa, se promène ensuite atravers la galerie par des bacs rectangulaires, s’assied enfin sur un des plusieurs gallets qui sont parsemés au long de son parcours. Des plats UFS remplis d’enormes Bonsais donnent à l’ensemble un effet d ‘élégance et de chic zen. Spéciallement pour ce projet, Savi a conçu, ensemble avec l’Atelier, une poubelle avec structure en inox.

I Inaugurated last May, the new Rives d’Arcins shopping centre under-went a metamorphosis to meet the expectations of the inhabitants of Bordeaux. Located on the banks of the Garonne River, the concept developed for the centre is entirely based on a philosophy of good taste, elegance and tranquillity. In order to meet the challenges posed by this centre that had to be “different by nature”, customised interior landscaping was created to provide points of emphasis for visitors. Groupe Savi, working on this project under Oliver Cocostègue, con-tacted Atelier Vierkant for the production of customised vases and elements: clients enter surrounded by beige, earthenware AH pots 2.3 metres high planted with Dracaena surcullosa and then stroll through the gallery fitted out with rectangular pots, thereafter sitting down on one of the boulders positioned at various locations along their path. Round trays with huge Bonsais lend the ensemble elegance and a sense of chic Zen. Specifically for this project, Savi and Atelier jointly designed a waste bin with a stainless steel structure.

As a landscaper with over 25 years’ experience, the company focuses on greenery, giving it pride of place and developing new approaches. It offers solutions for fitting out spaces that integrate products and services going beyond simple greenery. For example, Savi also manufactures customised flooring, furniture, receptacles, luminaires and all sorts of greenery. For both indoor and outdoor projects, the team works upstream right from the pro-ject’s inception in close cooperation with designers so as to tackle sustainable planning challenges while integrating greenery in all its forms.

BordeauxLe centre commercial Rives d’Arcins se trouve au bord de la Garonne. La troisième ville française en nombre d’habitants est connue dans le monde entier pour le vin. Les réaménagements récents au niveau urbain ont fait de la ville aussi un centre touristique de grande ampleur.

e acuerdo a las necesidades del cliente, B+P intervino la azotea del edificio de oficinas ubicado en Prado sur, Mexico DF para aprovecharlo como un espacio de reunión e integración de áreas verdes. La arquitectura de paisaje está compuesta de elementos na-turales como la gravilla de mármol y macetones rectangulares en el perímetro del espacio creando una barrera visual para destacar la vista de los edificios de la ciudad, la cual es espectacular tanto de día como de noche. La vegetación utilizada tales como Magnolias y arrayanes diseñadas con formas geométricas, son los elementos que mayor importancia le proporcionan al espacio ya que la inten-ción fue incorporar diferentes planos visuales en las colindancias, iniciando en la vista frontal con una fila de macetones RRH100 de barro diseñados y fabricados desde Bélgica por el taller Atelier

Vierkant. Igualmente se propuso el deck Exterpark Tech Sistema Plus Tierra color grafito polietileno y fibra vegetal. La colocación se realizó a base de un sistema flotado de estructura metálica y nivela-dores, con un diseño cuatrapeado cambiando el sentido de las du-elas para proporcionarle mayor ritmo y movimiento en la superficie de piso.Dentro del área pergolada se observa un juego de volúmenes formados por diferentes piedras como calizas y ónix blanco dando función a la contrabarra y barra, asi como al firepit ubicado al frente de estas. Así mismo la iluminación del espacio hace destacar la veg-etación y elementos arquitectónicos mediante la combinación de iluminación puntual con luz cálida con luz fría, creando distintos contrastes y logrando crear un ambiente acogedor en este espacio con gran amplitud.

Both architects have more than 20 years’ experience in developing architectural projects and have constantly strived to improve the results of their design processes, which cover several different areas, for example interior architecture, decoration, landscaping and construction. The diversity of their professional practice is reflected in the variety of their architectural and design projects: residential (urban, rural and beach houses), apartment buildings and real estate developments in Mexico and abroad, as well as commercial projects and institutions (hotels, communal spaces, restaurants, offices, businesses and museums). B+P Architecture prides itself on satisfying the individual needs of its clients, offering design solutions that result from a quest for innovation and for improving the function and aesthetics of a space. The firm has taken part in several architecture competitions and has won several prizes, among them the Architectural Digest prize for interior architecture, and Design Icons 2005, corporate architecture category. G3 Shopping ResortVienna, Austria

ine sanft geschwungene Holzschale, in der sich die hügelige Landschaft im Norden Wiens fortzusetzen scheint, bildet das Dach des neuen G3 Shopping Resorts in Gerasdorf. Unter den drei Dachwellen des riesigen Konsumtempels schlängelt sich eine fast 500 Meter lange und bis zu 20 Meter hohe Einkaufsstrasse dahin, die sich organisch zu kleinen und grösseren Plätzen auf-weitet. 180 ein bis zweigeschossige Shops und Flagship- Stores mit einer Verkaufsfläche von insgesamt 58.000 Quadratmetern belgeiten die Mall. Über zwei verglaste Atrien sowie Fenster-bänder, die unterhalb der von riesigen Baumstützen getragenen Dachebene liegen, wird der Innenraum mit natürlichem Tag-eslicht versorgt. Zurückhaltende Farben und schlichte Materi-alien betonen zusätzlich die Weiträumighkeit der Architektur. Der Entwurf des wegen seiner nachhaltigen Gesamtkonzeption auch als Ökoeinfkaufszentrum bezeichneten Shopping Resorts stammt vom Innsbrucker Architektur und Ingenierbüro ATP*. Für die Innenraumgestaltung, hat der Architekt Massi Baum-gartner für verschiedene Keramik Gefässe von Atelier Vierkant gewählt.

A smoothly curved wooden bowl, which appears to continue the rolling landscape north of Vienna, forms the roof of the new G3 Shopping Resort in Gerasdorf. Under the three roof sections of the massive consumer temple winds the nearly 500-metre-long and up to 20-metre-high shopping street, which flows organically into smaller and larger spaces. 180 one and two storey shops and flagship stores, with a total sales floor area of 58,000 square metres, occupy the mall. The interior space is flooded with natural daylight via two glazed atria and bands of windows which are located under the roof supported by giant wooden beams. Muted colours and simple materials add to the spacious ambience of the architecture. The design of this shopping resort originates from ATP Ar-chitects and Engineers* in Innsbruck, which has also been designated an ecological shopping centre due to its sustain-able general concept. Architect Massi Baumgartner selected various ceramic vessels from Atelier Vierkant for the interior design.

Adelhauser Kloster

ls ruhiger Hof im lebendigen Geschäftsgeschehen, Ort für fei-erliche Anlässe und Treffpunkt bei besonderen kulturellen Ver-anstaltungen wird der Klosterhof als moderner Hortus conclusus gestaltet: Ein Ort der Ruhe mit offenen Türen, an dem sich eine reiche Geschichte mit dem Raum für Vielfalt und Bewegung der heutigen Zeit begegnen. Der Hof beinhaltet drei prägende Ge-staltungselemente: 4 Gartenbeete werden durch den erdfarbenen Klinkerbelag in der Grundfläche symmetrisch aufgegliedert und formulieren mit cremeweißblühenden Stauden die Eigenheiten der Jahreszeiten. Ein instandgesetztes Wasserbecken spiegelt im Klosterhof vielfach die zentrierende Mitte. Apfelbäume entwick-eln mit lockerwüchsigen Kronen in den freistehenden Pflan-zgefäßen blühende und zugleich schützende Schirme. Die eben-falls dunkel-erdfarbenen Pflanzgefäße formen ein modelliertes Zusammenspiel mit dem Belagsteppich. Insgesamt entfaltet die Neugestaltung eine wohltuende Ausgewogenheit und Zurückhal-tung. Die Materialisierung und Farbbestimmung orientiert sich an vertrauten Leitbildern der Historie und vermittelt zugleich das Bewusstsein und die Offenheit Neues entstehen zu lassen.

The abbey courtyard was designed as a modern Hortus conclusus, a quiet courtyard in the midst of lively business activity, a place for festive occasions and a meeting place for special cultural events: A peaceful place with open doors where you will be confronted with a rich history as well as the space for contemporary variety and movement. The courtyard has three main characteristic design el-ements: Four garden beds, which are symmetrically subdivided by the earth-tone brick borders, reflect the characteristics of each passing season with their creamy white blooming perennials. A restored water feature provides a myriad of reflections at the cen-tral focus point of the abbey’s courtyard. Apple trees are develop-ing into blooming and protective parasols with loosely unfurling crowns in the free-standing plant pots. The also dark earth-toned planters form a modelled interplay with the paving bricks. Over-all, the renovation has created a pleasant atmosphere of balance and reserve. The choice of colours and materials follows the famil-iar guiding principles of history, and at the same time creates new conciousness and openness.

New ZebraGhent, Belgium

n juni opende New Zebra haar deuren; een hoog-staand staaltje architectuur waarvan de bolle gevel ongetwijfeld een blikvanger wordt voor wie Gent bin-nenrijdt. De filosofie blijft ongewijzigd : huisvesting, economie en cultuur, samen verenigd in de stadskern. Verder staat het nieuwe complex permanent in verbind-ing met het bestaande project Zebrastraat via een groene daktuin tussen de twee architecturale delen, het his-torische en het hedendaagse, voor een optimale kruis-bestuiving tussen ondernemers, kunstenaars, student-en, wetenschappers of andere creatievelingen. Bovenop de gevel langs de binnenkant, werd een ‘gigantische gele doek of sluier’ gedrapeerd – Cirbuats - het meest recente werk van kunstenaar Nick Ervinck. Op het terras dat de twee eenheden verbindt, koos Marnix Verstraeten, in overleg met de opdrachtgever Alain Liedts, voor hoge AH potten in zwarte klei van Atelier Vierkant.

New Zebra opened its doors in June - an example of an architectural tour de force whose convex facade is sure to catch the eye of anyone driving into Ghent. The phi-losophy stays the same: bring housing, economic activity and culture together in the city centre. In addition, the new complex is permanently connected to the existing Zebrastraat project via a rooftop garden. The garden is situated between the two architectural units, i.e. the his-torical and the contemporary, thereby optimising cross-pollination among entrepreneurs, artists, students, scien-tists and other creative profiles. A “gigantic yellow canvas or veil” called Cirbuats, the most recent work by artist Nick Ervinck, has been draped from the inside top of the facade. On the terrace connecting the two architectural units, together with architect Marnix Verstraeten, Alain Liedts opted for high AH vases in black clay from Atelier Vierkant.

In June 2013 Atelier Vierkant officially opened its new showroom in San Francisco. With its goal to work in di-rect dialog with architects in the US for the realisation of interior and exterior designs, the showroom plays a key-role to bridge the distance between the Belgian atelier and the American end consumers.

Atelier Vierkant – Plassendale

Om aan de steeds grotere vraag een antwoord te geven, kocht Atelier Vierkant in de zomer van 2013 een nieuwe stuk indus-triegrond in Plassendale, bij Oostende. Op deze plaats, wordt in het najaar gebouwd aan een nieuw Atelier, en komt vanaf Januari 2014 de eerste pot uit de oven. Belgisch design uit ei-gen huis, met een groeiende Belgische productie van eigen bo-dem voor de realisatie van projecten wereldwijd.

In order to meet the ever-increasing demand, during the sum-mer of 2013 Atelier Vierkant decided to expand and purchased a piece of industrial land in Plassendale near Ostend. Construc-tion works for a new Atelier will begin in the autumn and the first pots are scheduled to come out of the oven in January 2014. Home-grown Belgian design with continually increasing local production for realising projects across the globe.

iese von Architekt Robert Kraus entworfene Villa ist in Wien situiert. Der eine Villa charakteristischerweise umge-bene großzügige Garten mit seinen Wandelwegen ist inte-graler Bestandteil des architektonischen Gesamtkonzeptes. Der Garten ist visuell aufgrund der großzügigen Verglasung ständig präsent und bietet einerseits die erforderliche Pri-vatheit für das transparente Gebäude. Darüber hinaus en-tfaltet das Ensemble aus Villa und Garten mit seinen Ter-rassen, Patios, Brücken sowie Dach- und Fassadengärten vielfältige Wechselwirkungen und Nutzungsmöglichkeiten zwischen Innen- und Aussenraum. Der Gartendesigner

Frank Timmermann mit Grünbau Jakel GmbH legte das Gartenkonzept so an, dass in dem mehr als 15 m ansteigen-den Grundstück in unmittelbarer Hausnähe ebene, intensiv architektonisch gestaltete Gartenpatios entstehen konnt-en. Diese verbinden sich über Brücken und Spazierwege, welche von Golfgreen, Kinderspielbereichen, naturhaften Pflanzungen und Naschgärten begleitet werden, mit dem übrigen Garten. Im oberen Bereich des Grundstückes bietet ein Wassergarten mit Naturpool und modernem Gartenpa-villon einen komplementären Bezugspunkt mit Panorama-blick zur Villa und über die Stadtlandschaft Wiens. project: Jakel

Die Patios nahe der Villa überzeugen durch eine sehr bewusste Auswahl von Materialien und Pflanzen. So wird beispielsweise die Sichtbeton-Stützmauer zum Rückgrat eines von Frank Timmer-mann entworfenen Wandbrunnens. Die großzügigen Terrassen werden von UF-Gefäßen flankiert, die eine skulpturale Wirkung en-tfalten und mit Ihrer immergrünen Bepflanzung mit weißblühenden Rhododendren im Sommer, wie auch im Winter eine attraktive Op-tik bieten. Gärten sollen dauerhaft Lebensstil, Freude und Erholung vermitteln. Gemäß dieser Philosophie ist die Verwendung hochwertiger Materi-alien und Pflanzen wesentlicher Bestandteil aller von Grünbau Jakel gestalteter Gartenanlagen. Das Unternehmen plant und errichtet mit rund 60 Mitarbeitern Privatgärten und Parkanlagen. Die Stärk-en liegen im Entwurf kreativen, smarten Designs und der hoch-wertigen handwerklichen Umsetzung. Im Planungsbüro werden charaktervolle und stimmige Lösungen entworfen. Aufgrund dieser Positionierung gilt das vor rund 25 Jahren gegründete Unternehmen als Komplettanbieter für vielschichtige Vorhaben sowie als Spezial-ist für feine Details.

Headquarter PostFinanceBern Switzerland

m Berner Nordquartier ist ein 13-stöckiger und 55 Meter hoher Neu-bau entstanden, der sich perfekt in die Umgebung einfügt. Der neue Hauptsitz der PostFinance bietet Platz für 870 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mi-tarbeiter, Konferenzräume und eine Cafeteria. Das Hochhaus ermögli-cht PostFinance eine Konzentration der Arbeitsplätze, die bisher auf fünf verschiedene Standorte im Raum Bern verteilt waren. Hier wurden modernste Büroarbeitsplätze realisiert, die dem Personal Komfort und Flexibilität bieten. Wichtig waren Aspekte wie Lärmschutz und ein en-ergetisch sinnvoller Kälte- und Wärmeschutz, unter anderem mit ther-moaktiven Decken. Das Gebäude wurde nach Minergie-Eco-Standard gebaut. Das Konzept der Raumbegrünung ist in enger Zusammenar-beit zwischen dem Bauherrn, einem örtlichen Fachbetrieb und der

Planungsabteilung von Hydroplant AG entwickelt worden. Im Vorder-grund stand für alle Beteiligten die Umsetzung einer modernen, aber dennoch zeitlosen, schlichten Inszenierung der Pflanzen. Die Materi-alisierung der öffentlichen Zonen wie Empfang, Konferenzzone und die Attika-Etage wurde mit Gefässen von AtelierVierkant umgesetzt. Ausschlaggebend für diesen Entscheid war die Nachhaltigkeit dieses Produktes: ökologischer Werkstoff, geringe Emissionen bei der Herstel-lung, europäischer Hersteller mit kurzem Lieferweg und rezyklierbar. Das natürliche Material, die moderne Form und die spannende Ober-fläche ergänzen unaufdringlich, aber dennoch mit einem starken State-ment die Architektur des Gebäudes.

enn ich mich an die Zeit der Planung des nun fertig ge-stalteten Gartens im zürcherischen Oberland erinnere kommt mir unweigerlich ein Zitat von Frank Lloyd Wright in den Sinn: “Die Natur gibt unendlich viele Anregungen. Ihr Reichtum ist grösser, als je ein Mensch begehren kann.” Grundsätzlich sind Natur und Architektur eigentliche Gegensätze - jedes Haus und jeder Garten ist ein Eindringling - wie sehr sie sich auch ihrer Umgebung anpassen mögen. So fühle ich mich beim Prozess des Entwurfes jederzeit verantwortlich, Mensch, Natur & Gar-tenarchitektur zu verbinden und weich fliessende Übergänge der unterschiedlichen Lebensräume zu schaffen, d.h. von An-beginn an mit Persönlichkeit, Proportionen, Materialisierung und Farbkonzepten ein harmonisches Ganzes von Haus und Garten zu gestalten. Entstanden sind Aussenräume, welche

mit lichtdurchfluteten Terrassen atemberaubende Ausblicke in die Berge öffnen und gekonnt unansehnliche Bereiche mit der rich-tigen Pflanzenauswahl verbergen. Pinus sylvestris watereri, Cor-nus kousa milky way, Acer palmatum ornatum, Rhododendron yakushimanum koichiro wada sowie dem Ziergras Molinia caeru-lea in Pflanzgefässen bilden Gruppen und Familien, die mit ihren organischen Formen wundervolle Gegenspielerinnen zu der klaren Formensprache der Architektur werden. Amelanchier lamarkii, als Schirmform, schaffen einen schattenspendenden geschützten Rück-zugsort auf der Rückseite des Hauses, welcher mit dem Element Wasser auch an heissen Sommertagen zum Verweilen einlädt. Es erfüllt mich mit grosser Freude einen Garten erschaffen zu haben, welcher von der Familie belebt und genutzt wird und dadurch zu mehr Lebensqualität im Alltag beiträgt.

When I think back about the time when I was planning the now finished garden in the Zurich Oberland, a quote by Frank Lloyd Wright immediately comes to mind: “Nature provides endless inspiration. Her riches are greater than any human can long for.” Fundamentally, nature and architecture are actually contrasts - each house and each garden is an interloper - however much it tries to adapt to its environment. So during the process of design, I always feel responsible for connecting humans, nature and garden architecture and for creating softly fluid transitions to the various living spaces. This means creating from the outset a harmonious whole including the house and garden with personality, proportions, materialisation and colour concepts. Exterior spaces emerged which open onto breathtaking views into the mountains with light-flooded terraces and unappealing spaces perfectly concealed with the right selection of plants. Pinus sylvestris Watereri, Cornus kousa Milky Way, Acer palmatum Ornatum, Rho-dodendron yakushimanum Koichiro Wada and the ornamental grass Molinia caerulea in planters form groups and families which offer wonderful contrasts to the crisp lines of the architecture. Amelanchier lamarkii, used for screening purposes, provide a shadowy retreat at the back of the house, which is inviting with its water feature, even on hot summer days. I am delighted to have created a garden which is enjoyed and used by the family and thus contributes every day to its members’ quality of life.

The Alpina GstaadSwitzerland

eit fast einem Jahrhundert geniesst Gstaad wel-weites Renommée für Excklusive Bergferien und einen entspannten Lebensstil. Damals wie heute mischt sich hier eine kosmopolitische Gästeschar ungezwungen mit den Einheimischen des Sch-weizer Chaletdorfs. Ausgesprägte Musikkultur, Weintradition und Berggastronomie bilden auch heute noch Gstaads gesellschaftliche Grundlage. Kunsthandwerker bewahren ihre überlieferten Fer-tigkeiten, Bauern leben von den Erzeugnissen ihrer Almen so wie ihre Vorväter.

The AlpinaThe Alpina Gstaad is seit seine Öffnung letztes Jahr eine neue Ikone in Alpengebiet. Das Hoteldesign greift die für die Bergregion typische Handwerk-skunst und bevorzugten Materialien auf – in hangemeisselten Natursteinen, Schnitzereien aus jahrhundertealtem Tannenholz und Lederarbe-iten lokaler Kunsthandwerker. Allerdings ist das globale Erscheinungsbild schnittig und wirken die Räume aufgeräumt, obwohl sie mit Kollektionen von Fotos und anderem Zubehör verziert sind. Das Ambiente erinnert überall an ein zweites Zuhause. Für die Außenterrassen und die Umgebung der Swimmingpools hat HBA sich für A80- und AH90-Pflanzgefäße aus schwarzem/anthrazitfarbenem Lehm entschieden, in denen mehrfarbige Geranien eingepflanzt sind.

Since more than hudred years Gstaad is wel known for exclusive Mountain holidays and a relaxed life style. Refined music, wine and mountain gastronomy lie at the heart of Gstaad society. Artisans retain traditional skills while farmers live off the pastures just like their fore-fathers. Such elegant authenticity was what drew pioneering sport enthusiasts to the re-gion all those years ago. Now it is the turn of The Alpina to define an era while celebrating the vibrant core of Saanenland culture.

The AlpinaThe Architectural firm HBA took the tradi-tional form of the building into the interior and contemporised it. Warm reclaimed rus-tic timber forms the envleope to most of the spaces and there are many references to lo-cal customs and craft skills, from elaborately hand – painted ballroom doors in the manner of centuries old farmers’ paintings to intricate patterning embroidered onto some of the arm-chairs. However, the overal line is sleek and the spaces, while accessorised with collections of photos and other paraphernalia, are unclut-tered. The ambiance throughout is of home-away from home.For the terraces outside and around the swim-ming pools, HBA chose A80 and AH90 vases in black anthracite clay planted with multi-color geranium flowers.

Darüberhinaus bietet vhf ein umfan-greiches Sortiment an Hartmetall- und Diamantwerkzeugen. Die von vhf entwickelten flexiblen und preiswerten Bear-beitungssysteme lassen sich für verschiedenste Aufgaben ein-setzen. Dies können beispielsweise präzise Fräsarbeiten oder Gravuren in Holz, Kunststoff und Metall sein oder Schneidear-beiten in weicheren Materialien. Schwerpunktmäßig findet vhf seine Kunden in den Bereichen Industrie und verarbeitendes Gewerbe sowie in der Werbetechnik und Dentaltechnik. Für die Einrichtung der Büros und Empfangshalle hat sich das Management von vhf für Kera-miktöpfe und objekte von Atelier Vierkant entschieden. Die K-Serie, Elemente in Form von Kie-selsteinen, liegt kreuz und quer um den zentralen Kamin. Zwischen den einzelnen Büros stehen rechteckige, mit Sanseverien bepflanzte BRL-Töpfe, und an mehreren Stellen werden speziell nach Maß angefertigte Töpfe mit schrägen Wänden eingesetzt, die in einer Reihe auf den parkettbe-deckten Boden gestellt werden. Der Einsatz von Keramik verleiht dem Ganzen eine warme Atmos-phäre, die die fast 120 Mitarbeiter von vhf Tag ein, Tag aus erleben.

When designing the layout of its offices and reception area, vhf ’s management opted for ceramic pots and shapes from Atelier Vierkant. The K-series boulder-shaped elements are positioned erratically and along the central area. Rectangular BRL pots containing Sanseveria have been placed between the various desks and at different locations special custom-made sloping pots have been positioned in a row on the parquet floor. The use of ceramic means that the whole ensemble exudes warmth, much to the daily enjoyment of vhf ’s employees, who number nearly 120.

collection September 2013A couple of years ago, Atelier Vierkant introduced the seating element. This year the collection of seatings is extended and enriched with additional fine shaped designs. New textures, carved letters and a new series of innovative pedestals reflect the variety of architectural contexts in which the company daily operates.
