Float Glass FacesRichard La Londe

March 2nd (1 day) Cost $145Loyalty Rewards $110

If you have ever wanted to learn about fusing float glass, then this one day workshop is for you!

We will work with float glass (window glass), vitre-ous enamels, silver and other metal foils to create a two sided dimensional face/mask - fused and shaped in a fiber blanket mold. You will learn how to distinguish the “tin side” from the “air side” of float glass and how to create reactions with mixed metals which can enhance your artwork. Learn about firing float glass and stopping devitrification. We will also make a wood and metal stand to dis-play our creation.

Richard La Londe is known for his brightly colored images drawn with crushed glass and fused into murals and vessels. He has written two informa-tive books, Richard La Londe: Fused Glass Art and Technique and Richard La Londe and Friends - Book II. This is an opportunity to study and inter-act with a pioneer in glass fusing.

This is an ambitious workshop! Workshop partici-pants will warm up their design ideas with “touch drawing” monoprints then explore various tech-niques that La Londe has developed. Each par-ticipant will create (3) fused glass wall pieces and (2) aluminum mounting systems.

Master Class Tapestry: The Integration of Idea, Design, Color, Pattern &TechniqueRichard Parrish

April 8th - 11th (4 days) This class is FULL.April 13th - 16th (4 days) Cost $775Loyalty Rewards $825

Richard Parrish’s Tapestry bowls, trays and wall panels are widely recognized for their intricate patterning and coloration. This new workshop will explore how an original idea develops into a com-prehensive line of studio glass work. The Tapes-try pieces rely on color relationships, design, and technique for success.

Workshop participants will make two finished piec-es as a means of learning the major techniques for making these pieces, as well as the subtleties of color use and pattern making. The first piece will introduce the necessary techniques and initial col-or and pattern thoughts. The second piece will be a significant piece carried through from beginning to finished piece to understand the importance of well-made and well-finished work. Additional small samples and pieces such as jewelry components will be introduced along the way.

Participants in the workshop will learn why and how Richard makes his Tapestry pieces with the intent of introducing a way of thinking about and developing new work, whether it be large or small scale. It is based on a belief that work that begins with ideas and is supported by design and techni-cal knowledge will be stronger, more personal and more original.

Back by popular demand!Want to create thick glass panels that have great dimensionality and depth? In this class, students will learn how to apply enamel to glass layers, and then stack and fuse these layers into solid panels. Topics covered include design and image selec-tion, layout, discussion of enamels and how they respond to fusing temperatures, how to mix and apply enamels, fusing schedules, bubble control, and finishing techniques. Although drawing and painting experience is helpful, it is not required.

Students are encouraged to choose and bring to the class two 4” x 6” images for compositions they would like to use in the class. Important image se-lection guidelines will be provided prior to class.

New Layering a LandscapeAlice Benvie Gebhart

This class is FULL. A wait list is being created.

May 11th - 13th (3 days)Cost $565Loyalty Rewards $525

Explore Alice’s unique and innovative technique in which she layers glass creating landscapes with incredible space, depth and perspective. Gain in-sight into how painters and printmaking artists use design elements to create space and depth while incorporating these techniques into your own kiln fired glass panels.

You will learn how to add elements punctuating your works using dichroic glass, gold and black kiln fired paints that add texture and detail. Alice will lead you on a path exploring the unique effects and unlimited possibilities that these materials can add to your creations.

You will also learn strategies and techniques for displaying your work on a wall while retaining the transparency of the glass.

Two 6×8 inches wall art pieces, a landscape and a seascape, will be completed that will encourage viewers to “look into” your work.

New Assemblages: Layered DetailsMichelle Hamilton

June 15th - 17th (3 days)Cost $495Loyalty Rewards $445

Glass ebbs and it flows. It is organic and static. It is translucent and opaque. It can have a mind of its own! These contrary qualities should be celebrat-ed! This class will explore the use of fused glass to create multi-layered sculptural forms. Students will be encouraged to think about how these layers compliment each other through transmitted color, shadows and negative spaces. We will be experi-menting with using traditional slumping methods that are enhanced by combining materials to ex-press more organic flow.

Students will make multiple small-scale fused and slumped forms. These layers will be designed to sit alone or be assembled into a larger sculp-tural piece. Students are encouraged to bring images and or drawings of naturally occurring layered forms like those found in botanicals and microscopic formations. Additional image selec-tion guidelines will be provided prior to the start of class.
