• Proactively develops and maintains relationships with potential community, government, and corporate partners who want to learn more about the enterprise potential of the University’s research, creative activities, and inventions • Maintain and nurture a working environment that rewards efficiency and innovation • Provides effective and efficient leadership for all supporting units within the Research and Sponsored Projects Office, including research and grant development, grants and contracts submissions, research compliance, and post award administration • Oversees staff growth and development, budget management, policies and procedures development, and communication with other internal and external constituents • Administers a variety of intramural grant programs • Oversees and manages campus-wide student research competitions • Assures currency of campus compliance policies on the protection of human participants and prehistoric artifacts, animal welfare, intellectual property, conflict of interest, and scholarly misconduct • Works in partnership with University Advancement Consults with appropriate deans, other academic administrators, faculty committees, and academic centers, as well as individual faculty and staff • Authors and maintains research policies and operating procedures for campus employees receiving external funds • Generates reports focused on annual goals and productivity measures • Assesses and evaluates the impact of implemented policies • Monitors legislation and revises policies and procedures as necessary ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR RESEARCH AND SPONSORED PROJECTS THE POSITION: The associate vice president (AVP) for Research and Sponsored Projects (RSP) reports to the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs and will lead California State University, Fullerton’s efforts to develop and strengthen its capacity and productivity in research, scholarship, and creative activities across all disciplines at both the Fullerton and Irvine campuses. Correspondingly, the AVP is charged with creating a climate for success in obtaining external funding and providing leadership to supporting units within the Office of RSP in support of the University’s strategic plan. The AVP administers a variety of intramural grant programs; oversees student research events; works in partnership with University Advancement; and, as the campus chief compliance officer, assures currency of campus compliance policies on the protection of human participants and prehistoric artifacts, animal welfare, intellectual property, conflict of interest, and responsible conduct of research. In carrying out these responsibilities, the AVP works in consultation with appropriate deans, other academic administrators, appropriate faculty committees, and academic centers, as well as individual faculty and staff. Other duties include authoring and maintaining research policies and operating procedures for campus and auxiliary employees receiving external funds, generating reports focused on annual goals and productivity measures, assessing and evaluating the impact of implemented policies, monitoring legislation, and revising policies and procedures as necessary. The AVP provides leadership for effective and efficient office activities, including staff growth and development, budget management, policy and procedure development, and communication with other internal and external constituents. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS• Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree and a record of

teaching, scholarship, and administrative service sufficientto be appointed to a tenured full professor position in theUniversity

• Experience in submission of significant grants and contractsacquisitions, and administration of grants and contracts

• A minimum of three years of successful management oracademic administrative experience

• Experience working cooperatively and collegially with diversegroups of faculty, staff, students, community members andorganizations, and regulatory agency personnel

• Ability to implement strategies to increase the number, quality,and competitiveness of grant submissions and awards aimed atsupporting the overall advancement of the University’s missionand goals

• Knowledge of intellectual property rights and familiaritywith technology transfer

• Strong analytical reasoning, budgeting, and forecastingabilities

• Understanding about research compliance and federalregulations

• The ability to contribute to the University’s strategic goals(planning.fullerton.edu)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS• Understanding of and experience working within a regional

comprehensive public university

• Record of scholarship and research, and/or acquiring grantsand fostering projects that support diversity and inclusion
