• Over the Drama has expanded its audience in becoming a hybrid.

• One actor that's emphasised on this was Charlie Chaplin

• This hybrid film was made in 1936, which was written, directed and stared Chaplin

Music & Emotions• Music plays a key role in

these kind of movies

• If there was a happy scene the music would be up tempo and fast

• It souly relies on the tempo and sound of the music to heighten emotions

• If there was a sad scene the music would be slow and melodic allowing you to feel the character ever changing emotions

• Drama’s today are mostly hybrid with comedy known as a Rom-com that usually have two main actors that later fall in love with each other.

Horror/Thriller Genre

When and why?• Horror/thriller movies serve a general purpose, which is to shock,

thrill and terrify you, whilst also entertaining you. • They do this by bringing people’s worst nightmares to life.

• They usually disgust and traumatise their audiences.

• Horror/thrillers were first established in the early years of the 20th century especially the 1920’s.

How its changed over time!

• Due to the massive improvements in technology, computers and special effects, horror films have changed drastically over time.

• Fake werewolf body, whereas nowadays it would have been done by computer to be more convincing to the audience.

Mixed with other genres!• Nowadays horrors/thrillers are mixed with other genres.

• For example Horror and comedy

» The horror element is usually in the plot, but then funny » characters are introduced to make it into a comedy too.

Horror/ thriller movies• Made in 1968

• Directed by Roman Polanski

• Basic plot: A young couple move into a new apartment, the wife becomes mysteriously pregnant, paranoia over her unborn child begins controlling her life.

It meets the conventions of horror/thriller movies because it

has shocking and thrilling scenes. It includes supernatural and demonic characters.

This movie definitely disgusts its

audience. A common goal in most gory horrors.

Mystery thrillers!

Made in 2010

Directed by Martine Scorsese

Basic plot: set in 1954, U.S. Marshal investigates disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding nearby. Common characters,

such as detectives.

Disturbing unexplained behaviour adds the ‘thriller’ aspect.

Scenes of extreme and disturbing behaviour.

Unusual, violent deaths.

The villain or the ‘bad guy’ is often mentally ill or crazy.

Basic plot: Two men wake up in the secure lair of a serial killer. They must follow various rules and objectives if they wish to survive and win the deadly game.

Conventions of horror/thriller!

• The things you would expect from a horror/thriller movie depend on the type of horror/thriller that it is.

• For example: a supernatural horror would include important aspects such as spirits, demons and mostly ghosts.

• However a horror/thriller concerning more psychological themes• For example, there would normally be a disturbing, mentally ill character • These movies usually explore the mind.
