ASK Workshop Room Wednesday 16 th January 4-5 pm Planning and Structuring your Assignments The key to a successful assignment is a clear structure that comes from careful planning. This workshop looks at structure from sentence to paragraph to the whole assignment. It looks at planning strategies helping to communicate ideas clearly & confidently in academic writing. ASK Workshop Room Wednesday 23 rd January 4-6 pm Critical Thinking and Writing Arguments Most assignments require you to provide evidence of critical analysis. This workshop looks at how the principles of critical thinking will help inform your assignments and how to write effective argument. Library Seminar Room Wednesday 30 th January 4-5 pm Planning and Organising Your Research Are you surrounded by piles of articles and books? Not sure how to synthesise this together in your writing? This workshop looks at how to organise your reading, make connections and use your research to strengthen your arguments. It is aimed at those writing dissertations or final year projects or those who are worried about how to bring all their reading together. Library Seminar Room Thursday 31 st January 2:30-4 pm Writing a Literature Review As part of a dissertation you need to find and review the literature that exists on your topic and present a discussion on this in the form of a literature review. This workshop will look at how to plan, structure and write a great literature review. ASK Workshop Room Wednesday 6 th February 3-4 pm Referencing and Avoiding Plagiarism This workshop will look at what plagiarism means and how to reference correctly to avoid it. We’ll focus mainly on Harvard referencing but information on other referencing styles will be available. Library Seminar Room Wednesday 6 th February 4-5 pm Integrating References with Sophistication Referencing is more than just following a referencing style. It is important to think about the evidence you include and how you write about it. This workshop looks at how to effectively integrate references within your writing. Library Seminar Room Thursday 7 th February 10-11 am Writing a Questionnaire for your Research This workshop looks at how to design and collect data using a questionnaire for your research project or dissertation. The first part will look at question logic, layout and practicalities and the second looks at how to analyse and present the data you collect. Workshop with activities.
