WELCOME TO ASIA RESEARCH

CENTRE

Asia Research Centre (ARC) is a specialised research unit within Copenhagen Business School

(CBS) offering high-quality research on important aspects of the tectonic shifts in the global

economy related to the rise of Asia. With particular strengths on current political, social,

economic and business developments in the Asian region, ARC provides a productive environ-

ment for high-quality research.

ARC provides timely, scholarly and contextual understanding of Asia to a host of interested

parties representing academia, the political establishment, the media, the public as well as the

national and international business community.

ARC has valuable experience in international co-operation and partnerships with business and

government. ARC strives to further develop these initiatives in co-operation with external

partners and to consolidate ARC as a major global hub for research and educational initiatives.

MISSION

The mission of ARC is to provide up-to-date research and reliable analysis of current political,

social, economic and business developments associated with and contributing to the present shift

from West to East in global economics and business development. In understanding and coming to

grips with the implications of these immense changes in the Asian region, we will especially focus

on China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. On the basis of cross-disciplinary, cross-regional and

national studies, we will continue to produce high-quality analyses to a host of interested parties

representing academia, the political establishment and governments, the media, the public and the

national and international business communities.

Our goal is to maintain CBS’s position as the key research centre for Asian studies in the Nordic

region. On the basis of this platform, ARC aims to develop into a world class research centre on

business and economic development in Asia in a political and social context.

This implies:

To deepen and upgrade Asia-related research activities at CBS as a whole and establish

research projects and networks focusing on Asia that have international reach and impact.

To contribute with research-based educational inputs to the Asian Studies Programme and

introduce relevant Asia-related materials to other courses at CBS, including Executive Educa-

tion.

To disseminate our results to the international research community, to the business world and

to the public.

Important means to reach these goals are to continue to:

Undertake high-quality contextualised research on contemporary developments in the Asian

region.

VISION

ARC’s vision is to enlarge its research portfolio by participating in national and international net-

works and attracting strong talent to undertake cutting-edge research within our particular areas of

strength on China, India, Japan and the region of Southeast Asia. In terms of disciplines, we will

continue to attract faculty within a broad range of social science disciplines with relevance for eco-

nomic and business development. By consolidating the Centre in key thematic areas and collaborat-

ing with other researchers and centres at CBS and research organisations worldwide, we strive to

create a solid institutional identity to effectively meet our mission and research goals.
