10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
Thank you for completing the questionnaire at the last meeting,
over 100 people voted for either Eastwood Hall or Goosedale, so
we went back to Goosedale to see what they could offer us. We
also got some information from Eastwood Hall but in the end
Goosedale came out best.
10th birthday celebrations will be held on
FRIDAY 1st JULY 2016, 7-11pm at Goosedale,
Papplewick. The cost will be £25, £10 to be paid as a deposit at the January
meeting, then £15 at the April meeting. This will include a choice
of 2 mains and 2 desserts plus self service tea & coffee.
The entertainment has not yet been finalised. Please put this date
in your new diaries and remember your deposits in January, Trish

INTEREST GROUPS
If you wish to join any interest group, please phone the group leader first to
ensure there is a vacancy in that group. All relevant details can be obtained
from the group leader, for instance where a walking group will meet and the
walk they will do, or which book the reading group is reading, etc. Group
leaders’ names and contact details are on pages 8-9 of the newsletter, and
also on the web-site.
New Groups: If there is a group you would be interested in joining, but isn’t offered at the moment, contact Carol Chamberlain, who will advise about
starting up such a group.
ASHFIELD U3A BOOK GROUP 2
At the moment we would welcome some new members. In our group we all read the same book (over the month) and then come together to discuss what we have read; these discussions are quite lively. Refreshment facilities are available to us and we review the book over a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. The refreshments are brought in by one member of the group on a rota basis.
The books are collected at the book review meeting or from Kirkby Library. Book Group 2 meets on the 3rd Monday of each month in Kirkby Library from 1.30 – 2.45 (except December). We pay a small rental fee for using the Library.
Current titles being read and discussed are as follows:
December – no meeting. January 18th The Slap February 15th The Rise
March 21st Passage to Iindia April 18th Wedlock May 16th Sunrise.
If you need further information please contact either Sue Hooper on 01623 617540 or Gill Ball on 01623 450003

FUN AND FITNESS (MOVEMENT TO MUSIC)
Yes it can happen, we meet on the first Thursday of the month at
Teversal Scout Hut, Teversal. We exercise to 60’s 45 records and
frequently sing along to the tunes we all know so well, we do a few
yoga moves in between the records and finish with a little
relaxation followed by a cuppa and a chat.
We would welcome some new members so please get your New
Year resolutions off on the right foot and get fit with us.

The meeting on 11th October saw two more players keen to learn and by the end of the evening everyone was getting to grips with playing some of the more complex hands.
I now have 4 players excluding myself.
I plan to continue this way gradually increasing the numbers at each meeting until everyone is skilled enough to play the basic game.
The next meeting is on 9th December and subsequently on 6th January so please let me know if you want to join in.
My intention is to run the group on alternate weeks on a Wednesday evening at 7pm until 9.30. Including a coffee/tea break. Dates for 2016 will be set at the meeting on 6th January.
While numbers are small we will play at my home. (8 Primula Grove, Portland Park NG17 8SD).
If anyone is interested in playing please see me at the meeting or phone 01623 613483. Jacquie Chapman

GAMES NIGHT
THANK YOU to Marjorie Woollam for the great spread she
prepared for our "fuddle".
30 of us enjoyed a fantastic night of food and games to set off the
Christmas celebrations,
Marian and David.
OCTOBER’S QUIZ NIGHT
And – another BIG THANK YOU to Martin Rose for putting
together the October ‘Quiz Night’. This was such great
entertainment. And for those of us who didn’t know the answers –
well we all learnt an awful lot (which some of us promptly forgot!)
Thank you Martin
And THANK YOU to all of those who worked so hard in providing
the most delicious pie and peas supper. – it was very gratefully
consumed.

No Refunds Policy
Your committee have reluctantly decided that when tickets are ordered they must be paid for, unless advised differently, and if you find you cannot attend the event you have bought the ticket for, it is up to you to sell that ticket on, and no refund will be given by U3A, unless there is a waiting list in operation. This is because some events have run at a loss due to people suddenly cancelling and expecting their money to be refunded. After all, if you book seats at the theatre, or a bus trip and found you couldn’t attend, you would lose your money, and, regrettably, we must have a similar policy

I should be sitting somewhere to give out letters, luggage labels etc. Please collect.
If you are not coming but might want to, SEE ME Next January (18/22 inclusive) there will be 224 members and friends in the party but with that many people of our age someone will fall ill, perhaps at the last minute. So I really need a waiting list just in case. There is no obligation to take up the offer of a place if one becomes available and NO CHARGE to go on the list. Full details are on the website and I am using that facility to make update announcements if you want to check on the state of play. Thoresby does not have any rooms specifically allocated to singles and while I have acquired 20 singles, they are paying an extra £40 for the privilege. There are already 3 on the waiting list for a single room and 2 for a double (or twin) room.
