I THIRST PRAYER GROUP BEGINS FRIDAY, JUNE 1ST!

Are you thirsting for Jesus?

He is thirsting for you. Ascension of Our Lord Parish invites you to come and pray with fellow friends who wish to quench Jesus’s thirst for souls. Every soul is precious to Jesus.

I THIRST Prayer Group will

meet Friday mornings, beginning June 1st at 10:00 a.m. in The Founders Foyer. The month of June is traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Sacred Heart represents Jesus’s love for all people, and our devotion to it is an expression of our faith in His Love and Mercy. Jesus thirsts for you to come, pray, and help Him in His mission to save souls.

If you have any questions, please contact Mary Michalica at (630) 901-3232.

We wish to offer our sympathy and a promise of our

prayers to family and friends on the recent deaths of

Mary Jane Mueller

and Dolores Marie Reeves

ANNIVERSARY MASS The Diocese of Joliet will hold its Fortieth Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet. If you are celebrating either your 25th or 50th anniversary this year, please contact the parish office at (630) 629-5810 by June 15th so that we may submit your name to the Diocese for a formal invitation. Those celebrating over 50 year anniversaries do not receive a formal invitation, but will be able to register to attend at a later date.

Vince Zaprzal Director of Parish Ministries & Religious Education 630-953-4415 [email protected]

Registration information for the 2018-19 school year is currently underway. For those that will be new to the program this year, a copy of your child’s/ren baptismal certificate will be needed if that Sacrament took place at another parish.

Registration information can also be found on the parish website under Religious Education as well as on the brochure rack outside of Church and in the parish office. The Religious Education Program meets on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m.—7:15 p.m. for Grades K-8 (September–May). The Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist are typically received in second grade if the child has attended First Grade RE. The Sacrament of Confirmation is typically received in Eighth Grade with a two year preparation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Religious Education Office.

NEW OFFICE HOURS STARTING SUNDAY, JUNE 10TH! Here at Ascension, we have a wonderful facility that houses our Church, Parish Offices, Meeting Spaces, as well as the Rectory—a combination not often seen at many parish campuses. With this convenience of space, we will be adding office hours on most Sundays from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. We will try this on a trial basis to see what the response is. Having the office open on Sundays will allow a wonderful opportunity to register with our parish as well as to request Mass Intentions. Mass Intentions are always encouraged to be made in person or by US Mail. Please see the schedule below.

New Parish Office Hours effective Sunday, June 10, 2018

*NEW* Sunday 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Friday 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Need Your Input! Below are a few questions for all to think about as I look to expand further our parish ministries. Please feel free to e-mail, phone, or send a note with your response. #1. Are you interested in a parish book club? This club would meet monthly and would include a book discussion as well as some light snacks? Daytime meeting or evening? #2. Is there a need to offer a parish grief support group? Grief exists in many different ways. From the death of a family member, to the loss of a job, to the loss of friendship, grief exists all around us. Would you be interested in a seven week session? #3. What topics for future adult education would be of interest to you? #4. Would there be any interest in starting a ministry that makes prayer blankets for those in need?

FROM INDIVIDUALS TO TEAM CHARITY

The St. Vincent de Paul Society worldwide and our own parish SVDP Conference both begin with individual donors and Members. Ultimately a team of both is necessary to serve the needs of the poor and disadvantaged among us. Those who provide their support of resources and prayers are combined with individuals who become active Members in our organization. These Member volunteers actually meet the poor where they are and explore the extent and suitability of help that our Society might be able to provide. When we alone are unable to meet all the needs of an individual or family, teaming or “twinning” with other assistance groups becomes necessary. The fact that “the poor will always be with us” continually demands that both our supporters and our Members must continue to be maintained, increased and replaced to effectively serve “the needs of the poor.” Next Tuesday (June 5) at 4:00 PM in the parish Office Conference Room we once again invite you to join us in our monthly planning discussion on the future workings and needs of our Society here in this community. You might consider becoming a Member of our Parish Conference or come simply to learn more about our work and how you, too, can support the work of the Vincentians with the disadvantaged of this community and throughout the Joliet Diocese. Perhaps you would like to contribute and work with our special projects for collecting clothing items, household goods and furnishings. Or perhaps you might prefer to serve with the planning and work needed for the upcoming Veteran’s Luncheon later this year. On this Holy Trinity weekend, ask the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for inspiration on how you might “team” with us to serve the poor.

Participation is the key to a successful appeal and a chance for our parish to receive a parish rebate, too. Every gift helps!
