ON THE GRASSHOPPER AND THE CRICKET

The poetry of earth is never dead :

When all the birds are faint with the hot sun ,

And hide in cooling trees , a voice will run

From hedge to hedge about the newmead

That is the grasshoppers - he takes the lead

In summer luxury ,- he has never done

With his delights, for when tired out with fun

He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed

The poetry of earth is ceasing never :

On alone winter evening , when the frost

Has wrought a silence , from the store there shrills

The Crickets song , in warmth in creasing ever ,

And seems to one in drowsiness half lost ,

The grasshoppers among some grassy hills .

    FEELING:

The sound evokes memories of the grasshopper in the

last line and takes the reader to the beginning of the

poem again. In what ways does a consideration of thishelp to understand the full meaning of the first line,

'The poetry of earth is never dead?
