IB Art Exhibit: Inauguration NightA celebration of the remarkable artistic achievements of our IB Art Generation 2016 students, who have just completed their International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Visual Arts examinations. The I.B. Visual Arts program encourages an active exploration of visual arts and design within students’ own cultural contexts and others around them. This exhibition is the culmination of the student’s IB Art experience in which they display the work they have created throughout their two-year art course. The showcase exhibits the creative journey in which the students designed and built their technical and investigative skills, and finally created their personal project.Through the engagement of research, studies and artistic productions, students experiment and manipulate through different mediums, ever-evolving theories and practices. Each art work is a thoughtful reflection from the past, present, and emerging forms of visual arts inspired by art from local, national and international perspectives, expanding their critical and analytical perception. It is through this artistic journey that each IB art student ultimately reaches a more complex, critical and intensely personal view of themselves in relation to the world.

NidoPaloozaA dynamic, interactive event where students present visual arts, music, drama and dance throughout the Fine Arts building. Students from the following classes will be creating and producing this event: MS/HS Concert Band, Concert Choir, String Ensemble, Sound & Stage Engineering 1 + 2, HS Music Technology, Dance, HS/MS Drama, IB Theater, HS/MS Visual Arts, and Tri-M.

Open Air Gallery & Crafts FairArt exposition featuring work from PK-12. The annual Nido Crafts Fair will take place from April 20-22. Unique hand made products will be on sale at The Nido de Aguilas International Park. If you are interested in participating please contact [email protected]

Nido Arts Showdown: Charity Fundraising EventThis year’s inaugural charity fundraising event will feature artworks from the Nido community in an evening of fun, art, music and good fortune. All proceeds will go to Casa Esperanza - Vision for Children (Arts and Music program) and Hogar Mision de Maria. There is no other fundraiser quite like this one. The event revolves around a raffle, for which artists from the Nido community have donated artwork (this could be you - even if you think you’re not an ‘artist’) — enough so that each raffle ticket is guaranteed to win an artwork. Tickets are drawn at random from 8pm, with the winner getting their choice of artwork (i.e, first called gets first pick, and so on). The result is a fun way to celebrate local talent, all in the name of charity. Tickets: (on sale from April 11)Cost $50,000 CLP (includes entry for two, 2 drinks tokens, finger food and a piece of art of your choice). There are limited tickets for sale so GET IN QUICK! No door sales. Artists whose work is selected will be admitted for free (but will only be entered into the raffle if a ticket is purchased) Tickets available at the Nido cashier Mon.-Fri. 7:30-12:00 and 12:45-15:00. Once you pay (cash or check), collect your entry bracelets along with your receipt.

Closing Ceremony 1 (Public)Arts in Action 2016 culminates with an outdoor spectacular. A combined school orchestra of 150 students and faculty join a choir of 400 students, staff and parents to perform in this outdoor show in the Middle School Plaza. Bring a picnic, a rug and some warm clothes and watch as the school celebrates a month-long festival of the Arts. Color in, and bring with you, the pinwheel included in this program.

What you need:Scissors Thumbtack Plastic straw

Get Started:Cut out the pinwheel square on this page. On the blank side of the paper, draw or paint what arts in action means to you. Following the lines, cut in from all four corners. Gently bend one of the cut corners to the center. Skip one corner and bend the next one. Repeat until four corners are bent and meeting in the center (like the diagram above). Stick the thumbtack through all four points and onto the straw. You are ready to test your pinwheel!

Save your pinwheel in a safe place until April 27. Take it to the Arts in Action closing ceremony and “plant” it into the ground to be part of the celebration!

MS Arts IntegrationAs part of the Arts in Action month we are going to actively encourage students to use the arts to enrich and deepen their learning in their core subjects. For instance, when studying Apartheid in South Africa, students could write a freedom song.

HS Arts IntegrationThe IB High Level 1 English language class has been studying the language of persuasion and, with HS String Ensemble class, are exploriong the idea of translating spoken language into music. The product will be a joint performance of these two classes.
